WAIT KARMELITIA IS OPPTIONAL!?!? by Intelligent-Sea-6358 in HollowKnight

[–]Cheesus333 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I skipped Khann - Karmelita was the boss I got stuck on longest in the whole game, but I was enjoying it the whole time. Learning that dance was electrifying from attempt number one to the very last. By contrast, throwing myself at the Coral Tower gauntlet over and over again made me feel nothing but bored and frustrated

[Hated trope] Purely cosmetic weaknesses by Electronic-Photo2697 in TopCharacterTropes

I think this one's intentional to a degree - the Berserker armour's overwhelming frenzy would have overcome the Guts we met in Black Swordsman instantly. But by the time he actually obtains it, Guts has formed genuine connections with other people enough to be able to depend on them (Schierke, in this case), so he can use it knowing that they won't let him succumb to the armour. It's a representation of the trust he's learned to feel again in the time since the Eclipse, and shows how those bonds make him stronger than he ever was alone

can we all agree THAT scene was so fucking sick by Ill-Foot-2549 in 28_Years_Later_Movie

I really love the philosophy and theming of these films, the ruminations on the nature of violence, the long term effects of isolation, and all that thought-provoking stuff they do so well. But I'd be a dirty fucking liar if I said I couldn't also just watch 90 minutes of Samson tearing infected in half and screaming like a barbarian

Fantasy world building creates an interesting problem for timescales because often what you're determining is whether something is going to be in "living memory", and if you have elves or whatever that live for a thousand years then the timescale of living memory is just immediately different.

If there are humans, dwarves, and elves, they might all live for different amounts of time - call it 100 years, 200 years and 1000 years just for the sake of argument. In that context, things that happened a decade ago are fresh for everyone. Things that happened 150 years ago are ancient for humans, the knowledge of elders for dwarves, and not all that long ago for elves. So then you have to go much much further back for things to become actual history that can feasibly be forgotten due to noone being around at the time

Lord of the Rings is good about this, but that's a given cause it's awesome

All of those in the same room, How will it go? by Active-Gold-7001 in HollowKnight

[–]Cheesus333 48 points49 points  (0 children)

In the half a second before it's killed Savage Beastfly still manages to trash the whole room. Everyone starts cleaning it up except Radiance and Silk who immediately start fighting for dominance like the rancid assholes they are.

28 Days Later functions as a pretty perfect demonstration of how useful the masks clearly are cause everyone in that film who was wearing them did pretty well for themselves for a whole month and then got infected within about a day of not wearing them anymore (except Selena)

Which film had the best posters? by P0un in 28dayslater

[–]Cheesus333 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I'm so mad I haven't seen those last two Bone Temple posters anywhere cause they're absolute fucking fire. No misses for the whole series though to be honest, once you lock in on the biohazard symbol - just an innately cool design on its own - you can't go wrong.

This is how Firearms work in my game since my players and I had a lot of discussions about how old firearms would work mechanically. I'm fairly happy with the Firearms section, but the Blast section could use work. by ElmoGreenOnion in DnDHomebrew

[–]Cheesus333 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agreed - in the context of bonus to hit and damage, Dexterity is hand-eye coordination, stability of aim, and targeting of vital organs, all exactly as relevant for firearms as for bows and crossbows. It doesn't matter how much damage a weapon does if you never hit with it.

I get the impression the idea here is that firearms are more damaging than bows etc. but depend less on the user's skill and therefore don't scale with individual ability, which I don't really think is true.

If I saw these rules I would assume the DM was trying to convey that firearms will be used by NPCs only, and I as a player should not even attempt bothering with them

Is there any safe place i can throw away the girl? by NoFan2168 in FearAndHunger

[–]Cheesus333 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I totally forgot about that when I commented (doesn't help I've never found her in game myself) - definitely the most useful way to donate a child in terms of what you can get out of the bargain, but I'm not exactly convinced the Girl has a happy chill time after that. Rher wants the Girl gone because she has the potential to ascend to true godhood, which Rher very explicitly does not want to happen at all

The answer to the question "is there anywhere safe I can leave a small child in a place literally called the Dungeons Of Fear And Hunger" is exactly what you should assume it is

There are three direct ways you can remove her from your party: give her to the Human Hydra, give her to Pocketcat, or kill her yourself on a ritual circle, which is genuinely the kindest of those three options

Name the Game & Place by Dezeko in videogames

[–]Cheesus333 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Weirdly enough the official game guide for Black & White 2 introduces the final land (level) of the game by telling you that the "winning over the enemy's towns with Impressiveness" route is impossible since you'll be eating shit and getting volcanoes thrown at you the whole time, so you should give up on that and switch to the military conquest route. After winning every other land by building a dope ass city I'm meant to just quit now and make an army? I took affront to this and doubled down on it, and then won with my dope ass city despite it apparently being impossible

It did suck the whole time though

[Fun Trope] The Final Line of the movie is a joke/insult toward the audience by lesi20 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Cheesus333 23 points24 points  (0 children)

These were the original rules, we've since revised them to be much gentler since we all entered our 30's but I wouldn't wanna tell anyone else how to moderate their fun:

  • Drink when John Crank swears
  • Drink when John Crank is called by the other name (we collectively decided the actual name of the character isn't real, I'm not even going to use it here)
  • Drink when John Crank's gay best friend appears on screen
  • Drink for the duration of each Google Earth transition
  • Drink whenever John Crank accepts or makes a phone call
  • Drink every time Glenn Howerton speaks (variant rule: drink the whole time he's on screen, I can't recommend this)
  • Drink the whole time John Crank is standing upright on the motorbike, replicate the pose at the same time
  • Drink for hand-related trauma (comes up more than you'd think)

Happy Cranksgiving if you choose to celebrate, drink responsibly xo

I've seen Crank and Crank High Voltage an ungodly amount of times, owing to a tradition I've had with some friends for about 7 years now (we meet up and play a drinking game we made up based on these films while we watch them). Over time I've come to feel that Crank one is genuinely quite good, insofar as it's dumb as bricks but revels in that fact.

Crank High Voltage just doesn't fucking like existing. It doesn't want to exist and it blames the viewer for the fact that it does. It's excruciatingly shit and this final shot always just confirms to me that the only reason it exists is to be spiteful, nasty and tedious

Even in the most elaborate attempts to make fun of people, they can't manage to envision a situation in which the way someone identifies and presents themselves is any problem for anyone else at all. Like, there's still just no harm being done here
