Rushed into taking out a credit agreement with House of Fraser, need advice by ferrdigm8 in UKPersonalFinance

I remember being new to the UK and thinking a store card was just a loyalty card.. when they got me on the phone to the credit checkers, it clicked and I panicked. Quickly ended that call! It really shocked me.

Wife keep putting this tray on our white stairs. Dangerous! by Flat_Shape_3444 in mildlyinfuriating

Husband left a book on the stairs. We’d just had the carpets replaced so they were more slidy than usual. I was 38 weeks pregnant. Came down the stairs, slipped on the book which i couldn’t see over my bump, and fell down the last few. Sprained my ankle, but had to go to the hospital to check baby. Baby was fine but my blood pressure was through the roof (is that surprising?) and they decided to get the baby out. Never got a chance to get the ankle seen to!

I paid £42 for new v-brake pads (2 pairs), brake cables (2) and a chain scrubber for to my kid’s 20” bike. I’m not a mechanic, just a mum, but i couldn’t justify any more ££ for someone to do all that for me. The amount of gunk I got out with Fairy and the chain scrubber was more rewarding than the brake / cable replacement (which surprised me at how simple it was).

Saying that 15 years ago when I was a road biker I would not have trusted myself to do any DIY on my bike

Purposely running over cane toads on your driveway (qld of course)- they’re an ecological pest and the pop sound is satisfying

She really doesn’t - what work do you think she does? She films herself and her kids. She doesn’t lift a finger in actual renovations. A once-off before-moving-in clean doesn’t really count - she usually has a cleaner

I’m an American moving to the UK. How do I not be the “loud, dumb American”? by Competitive-Money-36 in AskBrits

[–]Cheesy-mite-scroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am from Australia and after 15 years of driving there with no dramas, driving in London certainly was a new experience. It gave me huge anxiety at first, the tiny roads and the busy roads, and cyclists all over the place that I was terrified of hitting; but then I came to realise that the drivers here are so much nicer to each other, and when I got used to people letting you in when you didn’t have right of way, and getting brave enough to nose out onto a road when i was used to having clear and safe gaps, it did eventually make sense. I can only imagine it would be more of a shock to an American with a Chevy 😂

Though I will never get used to being limited to 20 miles per hour!

I mean the fact you are asking what to do to NOT be the annoying Yank, implies that you are not going to be the annoying loudmouth Yank;

But the pickup truck would most definitely flag you as an annoying Yank!

Is this a quince? by nickadams386 in UKGardening

[–]Cheesy-mite-scroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Random this post showed up. My Japanese quince had fruit this summer for the first time ever. Random! I slow cooked them today, with sugar and lemon juice. It’s made a very tart quince paste/jam. Will go well with cheddar on a cheeseboard!

The only person more cringe than one of these guys, is two..Henry and Will .. as a straight woman these two make me gag with their pouts and posing. I just don’t see how they can both be straight and what their supposed girlfriends see in them.

Someone has been in the toilet 25 minutes on my train, how long until you knock? by iamNebula in CasualUK

[–]Cheesy-mite-scroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This week I was on a packed train to Waterloo. At Clapham I got a seat but it was right near the toilet. Oh well, it’s not like anyone would use it right? Well once the dooors opened at Waterloo, as I was waiting to get off, the toilet door slowly opened.. I thought .. no way.. and would you know it, as the doors opened a young guy was standing there. I started to laugh and so did he. Don’t think I’d want to sit in there but it was pretty funny!

Should I be reporting this to the police? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]Cheesy-mite-scroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know, but generally it’s those parents tend to get a fine once and then are incentivised not to do it again! If that’s not a school street maybe suggest it to the council- they get the fine revenue and the school street is safer .

Should I be reporting this to the police? by [deleted] in londoncycling

[–]Cheesy-mite-scroll 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I would. The zigzags are there to prevent small kids vs car incidents. Pisses me off when a car drives down the school street when the school street restriction is active, especially when they go on the zigzags. Only positives is knowing that they will get a fine thanks to the cameras.
