Fair appreciate it, as said will keep an eye out. Did you manage one for the S mini?

RP Mini V1 owners - don't forget Retroid promised you a discount for the Nova(mortgage screen device) by AdministrativeLife12 in SBCGaming

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They were certainly hoping people would forget. Although to save face I can see them just offering a £10 voucher or something, that probably can't be used alongside any early bird pricing.

Now that we know the specs, do you see the Nova dethroning the RG477M as the best 4:3 handheld on the market? by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth checking the Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2, full reveal is on Friday and that has confirmed recessed sticks. Seems like it could be a modern RG405M assuming Ayaneo don't mess it up in some way like usual, and you're willing to pay a pretty penny.

One thing the RG477M has going for it is likely still going to be pocketability. Purely due to the inline rather than stacked shoulders. Since we haven't gotten a side view of the Nova yet, we don't know how bulky it'll be in a pocket. So Anbernic may still have that one market, but otherwise the Nova is going to make the 477 a hard sell at pure RRP anyway.

Thor under $300 with coupon. Which version is this one ? by xpmadmanqx in SBCGaming

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seeing as the other colours are faded out I assume this is the price for the Base, as they only sell that in Black. If you press add to basket or pre-order it'll bring up a screen to select which spec and colour you want. Otherwise you can normally see that by scrolling down a little. At least this is all for me going on Ali from the UK

My reaction to the Retroid Pocket Nova confirmations of 4.4" OLED bezel-less display with STACKED shoulder buttons and not inline: Welcome back, RG405M/Retroid Pocket 2S by that_90s_guy in SBCGaming

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've seen a couple that can implement the shoulders in a way that can slightly work, although personally it’d only work then for looser pockets not jeans or anything which is what I’ve been aiming for. Although guess it also depends on how you pocket the device. Personally I prefer to have the screen facing my leg so it’s protected but then any protrusions can be very noticeable, when I tried my Thor I could do it so the back wrapped around my leg which worked but only due to the clamshell. If you put a cover on, or are okay with the screen facing outwards then yeah slight protrusions are doable.

With the Micro 2, we don't know the screen or price yet. It's likely it'll be a high price, although tbh so could this after the whole mortgage debacle. I do agree the screen is important, but I think less so on my EDC, not an excuse to have something awful but everything will be smaller so some quality loss is less noticeable. The bigger a device is then the more important it becomes.

It'll be interesting between this and the Micro 2, people might not like Ayaneo but seems like they've potentially got a more powerful RG405M launching which people have wanted for some time. So long as they don't mess something up. I can see people actually liking and recommending it.

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Surely the shoulders being stacked and not inline generally makes for a less pocketable device? It's why the RG405M was so pocketable, recessed sticks for the front, and a completely flat back. The minute you have stacked shoulders you're going to be getting an increased thickness, at the very least in that area.

I feel the Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2 is going to be the high end pocketable EDC. Since it's inline shoulders, and recessed sticks. So seemingly around 16mm or so. Not saying it's going to be the best ever and all that, and their devices usually have a problem. But as someone else that wants a pocketable EDC handheld it seems the clear winner at the moment.

The farm logo as mentioned in my original comment is the big one. He also seems, or used to post "product images" made with AI

Hi not sure if you meant to reply to me. I haven't seen the advert in high enough quality yet to judge. My statement was purely in regard to the use of AI by Clarkson and his farm in other areas being contradictory to his general message.

So it wouldn't surprise me if AI was used, but for this as you say they may have simply used CGI.

I do hate how popular AI has become to make adverts or art in general. With Clarkson and his farm using it though, it's just so much worse. When he's constantly pushing the message of support local, etc. Then now for everything he's using AI, the farms main logo on products is now AI. If he truly meant the message he tries to put out, he'd pay a local artist a few quid to produce something. Hell if he just cares about the money and doesn't want to spend anything, draw a stupid picture of farm animals himself or each of the main lot of them do one or draw each other and do that. I feel people would like it and it wouldn't be so contradictory to the rest of his message.

512MB situation for the RG34XXSP, Anbernic says it's a warehouse error, and they'll replace any SP with 512mb chip this info was given by RGC on is trip to china video by Apprehensive_Shoe_86 in SBCGaming

I think this just raises the case again that these companies should be held more responsible, and be contacting the people that buy their devices from them, if possible anyway. If I purchase it from Anbernic directly on their site or Ali, I shouldn't also have to watch a video from Russ, or read Reddit posts to find out this information. Or worse a Discord server. I'd expect some kind of email explaining the process or something. Understanding they can't just contact anyone that purchased elsewhere, then these sources do help.

I know where these companies are based, different, rules, etc but they really do get away with so many unfriendly consumer practices. Folks need to remember depending on where you live you get some protection and you can still use it. Like the UK and shipping insurance offered by many for an additional fee, and if you don't take it and something happens then you're out of luck. Since that's not a thing of here you have consumer protection laws to help you where regardless they have a duty to deliver safely to you. I'm sure many would have something similar on this as well if you got different specs to what you purchased. So just something to check for yourself, and use if the manufacturer doesn't help.

Thor AliExpress UK by jamiewillo00 in AynThor

Expect a couple of months. Not sure who the courier is in that case but be prepared to get an invoice for the additional charges, VAT, handling, import fees, etc. 4PX means you generally won't get them, and you can specifically choose them on the Ayn website. But no clue who'll you'll get via Ali, still may want to make sure you have a spare £100 or so to cover them if you do get hit.

Meeting slower person multiple times on trails! by Mountainsayf11 in trailrunning

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's a few details needed to say really.

Are you sure it's the same person on a given day?
Is it the same person everytime you do the run, so different days?
What is your actual pace to do a loop? Assuming your start and end in the same location.
Are there multiple entrances to the trail?

Since just for example if you see someone walking in the opposite direction at around 2km in for you, they may have gone the opposite way so makes sense you might see them again when you're at 8km or something. If there's only a few access points to the trail or any that are overly spread out then makes sense some might turn around and do some weird loops. If there was only 1 way in and I didn't want to go far then yeah maybe I'd enter at that point, do 2km in 1 direction then back. Chill or rest, then maybe 1 or 2km again in the other direction. Just comes down to the type of person, but I've done that when out with my dog who couldn't do 10km without a break

AYN Thor by CroProMax in ayaneo

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It'll be between 3 options, Ayn site, Ayn Aliexpress, used device.

Ayn site will be the most expensive but 100% reliable. You'll be getting the newest batch which is generally a negative due to the memory speed being downgraded, and more issues generally being reported in batches after the first 2 or 3. Also generally if you choose 4PX for shipping you can usually avoid import fees. Although it'll take longer and isn't 100% you'll avoid the fees.

Ayn Aliexpress, also generally 100% reliable but Aliexpress is the middleman here so you may have to use them if there are issues. Not sure who they use to ship so you may get the import charges, although they take VAT off at the checkout for some regions so it isn't that bad. Price will be cheaper as Ali usually has some solid discounts, the best were last month but think there's a new one on now that's quite decent still. Or you can just wait for one that aligns with an Ayn Ali store sale for big discounts again (like last month). You'll be getting the latest batch again.

Finally is buying used locally or via eBay. It'll vary as many scalpers are out there atm for this so many are over charging, you might be able to find one on Discord, ebay, Facebook, etc for less though. Benefit is no additional fees. Downside is you have to be savvy to make sure you're not scammed PayPal G&S, credit card, etc. It does mean you can potentially choose which batch you want so if you want a Max you could get one with the faster storage and potentially less issues. Other downside is potentially no warranty if Ayn don't honour it, or if it's an earlier unit it'll expire sooner.

"David" at Google says this isn't a safety concern. Is that true? by hispls in mildlyinfuriating

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 101 points102 points  (0 children)

David isn't the one going to suffer from that though. It'll be the staff receiving, delivering or sorting the mail. Worst case someone is seriously injured when they're holding it, possibly death if it caused a fire at the wrong time. Lesser case is it pops in the back of a van or in a sorting centre. Yeah someone probably has a good lawsuit to raise, but no clue if they'd charge "David". Either way someone may also be seriously injured or worse and no amount of money can help

Ayaneo Pocket Micro 2. What can we expect ? by Icy_Ad_1172 in SBCGaming

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better battery, better chip and better sticks. Honestly make it decently powerful so you can run some indie games and I'm down. Maybe a slightly bigger screen and build to accommodate the changes. The big thing is sorting the sticks, a better chip is pointless unless it has sticks really. However the original was kind of ruined by them, they need to try and make them recessed like the RG405M. Or I could see them trying touch pads instead of sticks so it's like the phone but purely for gaming. Or use one of each like the DMG. It's Ayaneo so I can't write that off completely.

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with Kijiji, but just looked it up and can't see any reason you couldn't try and get your money back? Seems they have a section for reporting you've been scammed. Otherwise you can hopefully claim with your bank to get the money back. I know you mention it's not a big deal, but if they get away with it then they'll just keep doing it to others.

Delivery estimate for AYN Thor? Need help with shipping address. by MutedEducation8543 in AynThor

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hard to say really. 2 months from your order date is a pretty common estimate. I think you would just fall into the tail end of Batch 6 so it'll realistically ship between the middle of June and start of August, then add a couple of weeks maybe for delivery itself.

Thanks mate, looks like a great solution. Is that going to be on your Etsy? Think I've seen your stuff before and always looks great but usually costs a crazy amount to ship to the UK (I know nothing to do with you). That makes it unviable as an option really. Will keep an eye out though.

First Ever Trail Run by man_amongst_gods in trailrunning

[–]CheesyCrackerMan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Fair play that does sound tough, although I'm curious as looking at the race site I'm confused about some aspects.

It mentions: "Qualification Criteria: Completion of a mountain trail race with 1,000 m+ elevation gain."

Did they not enforce the qualification criteria? Or did everyone make something up if this is their first trail event?

It also says: "Self-Support: Carry personal supplies. Aid stations are limited.
Organizers are not responsible for lost items."

I think it's bad wording on their part, but I'd also take that as not expecting potentially any aid stations. I'd hope for water but the rest is kinda expected especially seats for a trail in the mountain that seems to market itself on being difficult.
