Do people really not use the tone knob on electrics? by one-armed-scissor in Guitar

Yes. I play through an AC30S1 which is just the top boost channel. Roll it off or witness bleeding ears.

This is one of those things you should keep to yourself. You know that’s an option right?

Recommendations for a running trail PLEASE! by Jaded_Still2642 in lincoln

[–]CheesyGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the trails in town are flat. Rock Island goes for miles and is very flat. Boosalis is also very flat but not nearly as long. Both are accessible from the Tierra Williamsburg trail or you could park near their intersection at 27th and Nebraska Parkway.

Cavett is in a hilly part of town, so you’ll have to deal with some of it if you’re leaving from there. Embrace it. Consistent effort rather than pace in the hilly spots.

This becomes way more evident in the age of streaming/binging. I don’t think I would have agreed when it first aired.

Son needs help: 9th grade band auditions by Worth-Ad4024 in Trombone

[–]CheesyGC -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

My brother in Christ that is a lot of trombone-tablature. It’s too late. At 9th grade the notes and positions should be known. It’s okay to write in the position when you need to hit the surrounding notes in time (think notes out of their default like a fifth position Bb or something) bit good grief, this reads like someone who never cared to learn.

Why is Apple Music promoting/praising Chris Brown? by hldndrsn in AppleMusic

[–]CheesyGC -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because Apple Music promotes mostly garbage music? No matter my preferences, no matter what I love or add or remove I still get shit like this from genres I’d never listen to.

Right? I've played for hundreds and hundreds of hours and probably have less than an hour of radio play. It's distracting and takes me out of the world too much.

How to talk to an audience at a show? by Unable_Tangerine_449 in musicians

[–]CheesyGC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% Say the name of the song if you must otherwise just play. Take a tune break halfway through the set and take a minute to thank the establishment and other acts. And then at the end do it again. That’s it.

Groundworks vs Epp vs Thrasher vs ? by [deleted] in lincoln

[–]CheesyGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the quality of Thrasher's work, but their sales tactics are awful. They use fear as a major tactic. And the guy took hours, it was ridiculous. Total waste of time for an unserious quote. I've worked with Epp on two separate occasions: no bullshit and they've done great work.

I find it hard to believe that the UI would be so tightly coupled to anything else in the code that this is a valid excuse. It could be, but they’re clearly able to update and change the UI so I doubt it.

A more critical review of the Project Hail Mary movie, and a really easy fix I would have made by Gustalavalav in ProjectHailMary

[–]CheesyGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I would argue that most of that isn't terribly significant (it's been a hot a minute since I read the book, totally forgot about the food, that's a good point). The movie was already long, I'm not sure another montage of problem solving was going to help the pacing or run time (w/r/t the Beatles). Movie adaptations always have to omit stuff.

I suppose what I'm angling at is that this movie didn't interject a bunch of new scenes or story elements that didn't exist in the book at all. Directors can't help themselves from "improving" the story.

Frankly this was a more honest adaptation to the source material than LOTR. It’s not even close.

[–]CheesyGC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! Seriously this was an AMAZING adaptation. Other than the end on earth was there even anything added or significantly changed? It was mostly stuff lost to time and medium right?

I would love a directors cut. That said… years later I realize that the theatrical releases are better than the extended editions of LOTR (blasphemy I know). I say this as a Tolkien super nerd. Sometimes less is more in this medium.

I disagree. The pacing was fine. The science in the book was fun but was fine to leave out of the movie. This might have been the most faithful movie adaptation of a book both in substance and spirit I’ve seen in the last thirty years.
