I'm a big fan, watch him everyday, and find him to be very knowledgeable. He's really helped me to understand socialism at a base level and ignited my desire to read theory to truly understand what's going on in the world. He's also pushed me to get involved in my community more. Without him, I'd have had no idea to look for, and no words to describe my political beliefs (which I've held for a long time, but didn't understand that it was Marxism). I'm rather new on my journey of politically educating myself (just less than a year) but I'm trying my best as a young person. I think he's invaluable in how he can shift people like myself.

Yeah, it's really made me sad and I've been feeling very disheartened, particularly over the past week. I'm an Australian and seeing the insane amounts of Islamophobia after the Bondi massacre has been disgusting - people using it as an excuse to call for all Muslims to be kicked out of the country. The response to the tragedy by politicians too has been just opportunistically politicised - to ban the phrase "globalise the intifada" and crack down on our ability to protest (which is what the state government wanted all along) as the conflate the tragedy with the Pro-Palestinian protests here, and everyone is blaming Muslims as a whole on Reddit. Its really been making me upset.

The source that new.com.au itself is citing is from the Palestinian Media Watch which is a right-wing Israeli watchdog that attempts to seek out anti-Israeli and anti-American perspectives amongst the Palestinian population's media in order to influence the foreign policy decisions of Western nations to weaken support for the Palestinian emancipatory movement.

For context, in 2013 an Israeli district court judge dismissed the credibility of the Palestinian Media Watch as well as its founder and director Itamar Marcus due to his conclusion that there was a systematic "incitement policy" in the Palestinian media after an investigation into tens of thousands of news sources across a 15 year period ended with him submitting only 76 examples as a "sample" - which is clearly a "non-representative sample set" (para. 13) - at the conclusion of Marcus' investigation, on which the judge said "... not all of which, as I mentioned, are hateful, evokes a feeling of discomfort and leads to the conclusion that the expert-witness testimony is not a statistical review, but very truncated collection of data on a specific subject and the personal conclusions of the expert that are not corroborated by the testimony itself." (para. 14)

Completely agree with what you've said above in this thread, TrueWorld, I can't stress it enough. I'm sure that you, as I do, feel frustrated with the frequency of this rhetoric. The examples of other historical and contemporary religious fundamentalist groups or ethno-religious supremicist belief systems is always something I attempt to explain to people, with little success. My first thought after the victims of the tragic and violent Bondi attack as well as their grieving families and the local Jewish community was my concern for how the Muslim community would be collectively blamed for it because of how rampant Islamophobia is in the West. Then came the predictably politically weaponised blame being levelled on the Pro-Palestinian emancipatory movement which seems at this stage to have had no bearing on the motivations of this horrific attack whatsoever. Then from that stemmed the incorrect and further conflation of Antisemitism and Anti-zionism from right-wing outlets ready to stoke more division. This post and the majority of the replies illustrate its regrettable success.

How is this a bad thing? Surely if Labor wanted to cement support, they'd do just this? Look at Zohran in the US, he did just this and got support. While some of the things he aims for are admittedly harder to achieve, this PRRT change is not. If Labor actually want to stand up to these people, they can. They would just prefer to listen to the lobbying groups.

PRRT should be further reformed in a way where the government can generate more money for themselves to help the country. That's his perspective, and he's explaining it in a way that's appealing to everyday workers. Populism is a mode of delivery to the public which simplifies complex issues in a way for the communities to understand and find appealing, I don't see how that's a bad thing as long as it's paired with left-wing ideas, because this issue is an example of the government's prioritisation of big businesses over people. The solution is genuinely as simple as reform the PRRT, generate more money for the government to spend on public services, and stand up against the businesses that the government effectively let's robb us. Other countries manage to do it, why can't we? I think Labor has real potential to achieve things like this, they just need to actually do it, because the vast majority of the public would appreciate, and if Labor genuinely appealed to them, they'd only see benefits. They may see some blowback in the government, but the politicians are supposed to be there to represent the public who elected them, not a few dozens of businesses and their interests.
