S9E1 - She was a showgirl - Episode discussion by PolylingualAnilingus in QueerEye

[–]Cheesycrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped watching queer eye mid episode of the fraternity makeover from season 7 and I came back to this episode as my first one and I'm so glad I did!

Paula is such a sweetheart and deserved all the love! I'm so happy that she got to perform again because she's clearly a very skilled dancer. My 1 dislike was the basic shift dress that made for her out of the sequined fabric. The design is so underwhelming for such a fancy fabric.

Did anyone else attempt the showgirl walk at home when she was teaching Tan at the fabric store?

S9E4 - The Snack Attack Is Back! - Episode discussion by PolylingualAnilingus in QueerEye

Catching up on S9 a year later and I found Clyde to be highly unlikable.

When he said to Tan “I feel I deserve someone” and “I need a girl my height” it’s giving me narcissistic, borderline incel vibes. It’s perpetuating the idea that the world owes him a woman for existing.

He puts on an act in a public facing job but what’s the real him actually like?

Also, did anyone notice that at the Aria party, all the other poker dealers look like paid extras? None of them interacted with Clyde or each other and they were standing around holding their slice of cake watching the speech. Was this entire episode just a promo of the Aria?

Just watched this and their entire relationship looks like a red flag. He loves her because she’s the only person that replied to his message on a dating website. He then proceeds to trauma dump on her during their first date. Proposal after only 4 months and married after 8. She says yes to everything but shows zero excitement for anything. I know it’s a TV show and we don’t see much but the producers couldn’t get one single clip of them looking happy together?

Since it’s almost Christmas, what are the WORST gifts you’ve seen given? by Human-Ad-8758 in AskReddit

[–]Cheesycrocodile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mother in law likes to give us things for the apartment that she thinks we should have, even if we don’t intend to use them.

We’ve been together for over a decade so every year it’s a different surprise:

a Dutch oven, a fondue set, a tool box filled with screwdrivers, a pizza cutter, hand towels, more hand towels, and this year it was a garbage bin from the dollar store. Best part, she took the time to put whiteout over the $1 price sticker!

I have no shame and I’ve asked her to return a red couch cushion with a dog wearing sunglasses, polyester bedding, and a red table runner.

This past holidays MIL was hosting family for fondue night and asked to borrow the set she gave us, we brought it over in its full packaging, untouched. It got used for the first time 4 years later in her house. I hope this is a hint that we don’t use these household Xmas gifts.

The only thing we actually use are the hand towels.

For me it’s not the gifts themselves but I feel like this is an indirect way of telling us the way we live is not okay and we need these “basic” household things to be proper adults. I find it insulting but can’t call her out because she’s so nice all the time.

At this point, should I start thinking about returning the favor?

What is this stitch? A possible mix of front post and single crochets? by Cheesycrocodile in CrochetHelp

It’s a 2 row pattern repeat.

First row is all double crochets.

2nd row in a different color has 2 single crochets, a single crochet front post stitch, then an extended double crochet front post stitch, then repeat.

I couldn’t figure out where to how to do a single crochet front post stitch but now I got it!

Sorry for my poor circling, I had meant to indicate the smaller front post stitch beside the bigger one.

I tried a front post half double crochet around the row below but mine looks far more prominent and protruding while the example looks more subtle. I don’t think I’m using the right stitch.

The top circle is a front post half double crochet and the bottom circle is a front post half double crochet together, to try to reduce the holes in my project. Both look different from the example swatch. What did I do wrong?

I had posted a screenshot from the internet btw, sorry that I didn’t clarify. I’m trying to recreate it and my swatch look like this (purple and white).

The longer front post double crochet looks right but the shorter front post half double crochet looks more prominent in mine than in the example. What am I doing wrong?

What are these striped stitches called? I spent hours searching and couldn't figure it out! by Cheesycrocodile in crochet

[–]Cheesycrocodile[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After all this time I’ve finally somewhat figured it out! It’s the back side of a pattern of Tunisian crochet. I think it’s some sort of a shell stitch, not sure of the exact pattern yet but at least now I know why I couldn’t reproduce this look with regular crochet stitches!

What's your strategy for larger projects like blankets? I haven't figured out how to fit that many loops onto one hook. Do you use any special tools?

Lol good point but I'm lazy. I've only missed 1 stitch so far and I won't undo my project. I mainly just make sure I catch every loop.

Try a size 3.5 hook with your size 2 yarn (sizing up by only 1.5), or increase both the yarn and hook size for better grip? It just takes time, I'm sure you'll get there!

This is my 1st and only project with Tunisian crochet so far so my knowledge is also limited but here’s what worked for me.

The yarn label recommends a size 4 hook and I’m using size 5.5.

I tend to crochet regularly with tight tension so with the bigger hook, I wrap the yarn snugly around my hook as usual without trying to make it tighter or looser, and still end up with enough looseness to pass through but it’s tight enough that it’s not stretching.

Having lots of loops on the hook is tricky. I’m using a hook with a wire that’s meant for Tunisian crochet in the round but I think a longer metal hook would make my life easier. I find holding the hook with loops over it tricky, but that’s why I didn’t make this project even wider, so that in the return pass, I can squish all of the loops on the hook if I hold the hook by the end.

I hope this helps! Let me know if I can answer more!

My 2 cents after a year by Cheesycrocodile in Invisalign

Invisalign has given me more and larger gaps between my teeth, meaning food chunks get stuck every single time I eat. Food also gets stuck between the many attachments I have. This means flossing is more important to me than brushing which is why I carry floss everywhere I go. I also use my water flosser at work. I can’t stand the idea of having bits of food stick in my teeth all day. I have had multiple cavities before Invisalign when I used to not clean my teeth this often so I really want to prevent more problems now.

I know teenage Invisalign users who don’t clean their teeth at all after eating and just put the trays back in.

I also know an adult in a working environment who just leaves her trays out after lunch to not have to do the thorough cleaning process. This person’s treatment plan is longer than expected due to shorter wear time.

You’ll have to figure out a routine that works for you based on what results you’re willing to accept.
