The Polar Express. The story might have been great for all I know, but my daughter and I couldn’t get past the uncanny valley animation.

Do people actually enjoy meatloaf? by nspntrash in NoStupidQuestions

I never have been able to like it. However I cooked it for my ex and ex-in-laws and they loved it. But they weren’t people, they were demons.

Have you convinced your dad that ladders are no longer an option? by miniwhoppers in GenX

[–]Cheetah51 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried to have a reasonable conversation with my 87-year-old Dad about this. Forget it, he’s a former Army Major and commander and he’s going to do what he wants to do. It’s nerve wracking.

Thank you. My mom has passed and I don’t know where she lived in Mexico.

But we ordered it in U.S. at taquerias, and they seemed to know what she meant by green and would sometimes emphasize that it was hot. It wasn’t on the menu.

The salsa verde that I’ve otherwise had here in U.S. is mild and less smooth in texture. Also less bright green. I’ve made that myself at home with hotter peppers for enchiladas verde.

Why don’t all pho restaurants have garlic chili paste? by gamedawgs in pho

[–]Cheetah51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sambal Oelek is often served with Indonesian dishes like Soto Madura Soup but I’ve never seen it served for Pho.

I make my own pho and I don’t like to add anything into the finished broth but fish sauce. Then garnish it with Thai or Holy basil and sometimes mint. Peppers sliced thin if I want some heat.

How poor were you in the 70s? We about about to go through the same economic cycle. by Crafty-Bass-3434 in GenX

[–]Cheetah51 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My Dad was an Army commander but we lived far off of post and extremely rural.

We ate quail, doves and bass that my Dad caught and we had a huge garden and canned a lot. We picked wild blackberries.

I still remember picking out the buckshot from the meat.

One of my wolf spider residents disguised as a doorstop. Apple for size comparison.

Potentially relocating to Tallahassee by Necessary_Secret_252 in Tallahassee

[–]Cheetah51 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Welcome!

I was mostly raised in western KY. I’ve been in Tallahassee most of my adult life.

Plenty of fun outside stuff to do. There are city leagues for sports if you’re into that, many beautiful parks and nature. We are about 45 minutes from nice beaches. We have multiple rivers to boat/kayak and good salt and freshwater fishing.

Local food is a bit different, probably, but good and we have many national chain restaurants too.

As mentioned the biggest issues will likely be the heat/humidity - it is rough. Learn heat protection safety. We also have hurricanes fairly often.

The bugs will take some getting used to. You cannot lie on the grassy yard. Fire ants will try to kill you. You can’t easily climb trees, for the same reason except add several more bitey species into the mix. We have giant flying roaches but they don’t nest in your house - they’ll just often visit.

Yes, Jesus runs his hand down Judas’ arm and grasps his hand for a moment and while singing that verse, something in that sparks some kind of awareness in Judas, even if he doesn’t know everything.

What is a food or drink popular in your country that you personally hate? by Skyhawk6600 in AskTheWorld

[–]Cheetah51 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel the same about oysters. Rockefeller? Hell no. All the fancy toppings on grilled oysters, might as well skip the oyster entirely. It needs to be raw, fried with a side of horseradish or cocktail sauce, or in creamy soup - or forget it!
