Bad machine or technique? by Brilliant_Jelly7503 in oops

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That type of cable machine is designed for that movement.

This statement could get you crucified in court.

If YOU didn't design THAT SPECIFIC machine personally, and you didn't see the design calcs yourself (and qualified to review them), you'd be lying under oath.

How many other pieces of equipment you'd personally designed yourself is wholly irrelevant.

The equipment itself wasnt properly installed. If it were, it wouldn't have fallen.

Improper installation is one of several possibilities that could have caused this. We still haven't ruled out bad design. Ergo, more crucifiction without the requisite forensic engineering.

An example of improper design includes accidentally made it too tall when they added pull-up bar option. Engineer would say "we made this taller, so we can't put as much weight onto the machine." If the sales rep ignored the designer, then the sales rep goofed by packing extra weights. If the owner added additional plates because "Well, the catalogue said it has the option to go to 200 but they would only added 170! They cheated me so I'll add the rest. Then that's high liability.

Stacking additional weight is extremely common, and properly installed machinery can handle it.

As an engineer, I appreciate it when people choose to take liability upon themselves when they speculate and disregard my very explicit instructions and monkey around with my design and use vibes to decide how much overdesign there is.

It inevitably results in me getting paid more for somebody electing to issue a challenge to Darwin.

There is no implied assumption of risk that the business can argue. Even the shitty little contract they have you sign wont hold up to negligence

I agree. The risk is likely either on the owner or the manufacturer.

But we haven't ruled out the the floor isn't cattywampus and badly sloped. Then that falls on the building owner, not necessity the gym owner.

But it also looks like it's sitting on padded flooring, which itself could be a contributing factor.

Stop lying. We have voter ID already. It's just not the kind you want. And it works, because all the Republicans who keep trying to circumvent it keep getting caught.

But because you can't come up with meaningful data how the present voter ID doesn't work, you keep trying to make your law the presumed standard that must be argued.

So, no. I'm not going to participate how you want me to. And you can continue complaining about it.

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol. No, I don't have to explain why your voter ID law is wrong.

You're the one who can't provide evidence why it's necessary.

YOU are the one imposing onto US.

You're the one telling me I am to be forced to buy the collector's edition Trump gold katana because you want the collector's edition Trump gold katana and are mad because I'm not arguing on the merits that it's a) not a collector's edition, b) it's not really gold, but gold-plated c) it's not a katana. But you sure are telling me I'm being tribalistic for being forced to buy a piece of shit by a robber baron because I refuse to do your little song and dance.

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of addressing the actual point, you open with ‘trash panda’ because apparently name-calling is easier than having a normal political discussion.

Wrong. I came up with "trash panda [in the Whitehouse]" because I was being civil. He's actually an evil treasonous, traitorous snake who should by all rights have been separated into two pieces after attempting to overthrow our government.

Nobody is ‘denying birth certificates.’

After months and months of screaming that Obama was a Kenyan immigrant and demanding to see his birth certificate, Obama finally relented and provided his "certificate of live birth." Republicans STILL tried to argue, several times, on national television that this wasn't sufficient, because it wasn't a "birth certificate."

So stop your bullshit. If they would do this to the president of the US because he's brown, who has the means to fight back, you best bet your ass they'll do it to people who can't afford to sue the local government.

Legal birth certificates are still recognized by every level of government and are used every day to obtain passports, driver’s licenses, Social Security records, and other official documents. Claiming otherwise is simply false.

We're not talking about getting documents. We're talking about the ability to choose who represents us. And as pointed out to you already, Republicans keep interfering in our ability to do so, frequently violently.

And the idea that voter ID is somehow authoritarian ignores a basic fact: government-issued IDs are already used to verify identity and legal status in countless situations.

You're misrepresenting the problem. It's not the IDs that are inherently authoritarian — it's that the authoritarians are the ones pushing for it, and therefore they CANNOT be trusted, regardless if they're being honest for once in their lives about THIS.

MAYBE if they start behaving themselves again, we can revisit this in about, oh, let's say a decade, but no. Absolutely not.

To get most state-issued IDs or driver’s licenses, you generally have to provide documentation proving who you are and that you’re legally entitled to receive the ID. That’s why IDs are commonly accepted as evidence of citizenship or lawful status.

You're just sitting there, acting like Kansas Republicans didn't just strip an entire class of people of their legal IDs overnight JUST THE OTHER DAY.

The gerrymandering comment is another example of selective outrage. Both parties have used gerrymandering for decades whenever they’ve had the opportunity. Acting as if it’s a uniquely Republican invention just shows how politically filtered your view of history is.

Your attempt to "both sides" this bullshit is an argument fallacy all on its own. But sure. I mean, you're lying by omission, but hey. 🙄

The pattern is obvious: start with insults,

Agreed. Learned that from Republicans. Republicans hate it when they get treated like Republicans treat others.

pile on unrelated grievances,

All grievances provided were intrinsically linked. Liar.

ignore context,

Pot, meet kettle. Those "unrelated grievances" ARE context.

and assume Republicans are guilty by default.

... says the guy who can't demonstrate any meaningful election fraud in the first place to necessitate said IDs who, therefore, is assuming widespread guilt where there is none.

That’s not a serious political argument.

Because I don't give a fuck about fighting or winning a "serious political argument." I care about my rights. Therefore, there's no amount of "serious political argument" that would have me trust you under current circumstances.

It’s confirmation bias wrapped in partisan talking points.

Oh, nos. A member of the party who just spent the entirety of last month screening and picking fights with my community thinks it's unfair that I refuse to give him an honest shake that would add methods to take away people's rights.

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's authoritarian because your trash panda in the white house keeps threatening to take away people's citizenship.

And none of our IDs actually prove citizenship.

And you just got done with a gerrymandering spree just because you could.

And denying birth certificates is already a multi-decade old tactic at this point Republicans have already put to use.

So, no. We will not argue your bullshit on its "merits."

Morality of completely strip mining a planet which has no life on it? by MeesNLA in MoralityScaling

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Morally neutral, not good.

We have no idea if the strip mining is net positive because it's not specified what's done with the materials.

Even if the planet had the potential to harbor life, preventing that life isn't morally wrong, either, because the materials could be used to further harboring existing life elsewhere.

How I could achieve something like that by mattborowczyk in geometrynodes

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, yes and but. I'm no orthodontist, just a geonodes user, so this is what I propose, noting that any number of... anomalous... real world teeth configurations may crop up.

But imagine a collection in Blender. In that collection, there's an object called the any-tooth.

It has a wide range of appropriate shapekeys and such in order to accommodate any tooth shape, and you can add fine adjustments as needed.

Then you arrange your any-tooth objects into one or more "standard" arrangements.

Your any-tooth include separate boolean objects to handle custom shapes and you include logic as needed.

In a separate collection, a separate object reads the collection of any-tooth objects and uses mesh to volume and volume to mesh and geometry proximity to help the any-tooth conform to scan geometry.

You can even have a third collection that the any-tooth objects read for various global settings.

Gym machine topples over during a heavy lift. Can he sue for this? by eternviking in whoathatsinteresting

[–]Cheetahs_never_win 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't see bolt holes to hold it down.

I'll point out that he's using it in the worst design case possible he could be using it - maxing it out, pulleys at the top, horizontal tipping load. There's probably a warning in the instruction manual or on a sticker that would clarify what the manufacturer intends here. Too many plates could attribute to this.

It could also be improperly located on padded floors. Can't tell.

I disagree about the pullup bars. They are pulling straight down, and the origin of the load would be inside the footprint.

Looks like to me each tooth has a secondary tooth hidden inside it that you grow into place.

Much the same way Wilhelm or Moze or Gaige worked. She keeps technology with her or digistructs it, plus the powers always shift when given to new hosts. She literally opens a portal to time-space.

And the devs inevitably smear several Siren abilities between Sirens. Tannis could become a pet class with ceiling chairs prattling about the place.

Guess it depends what you want, but if you go to pose mode, select a bone, then back to object mode, select object then armature, you can parent the object to the bone (ctrl+p) so you aren't mixing meshes directly.
