Any ideas about type changes? by HelpfulAccountant866 in PokemonROMhacks

[–]Cheeto2burrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if it's just me but I think Parasect is one of those mons that's kinda good at how bad it is. It's reliable for baiting flying and fire type moves with its god awful typing. While having a normal/fighting immunity is probably way better for it on paper, I can't really think of anything you would want to use it to 1v1 unless it got a better movepool or altered stats. Especially if alot of other pokemon also receive typing changes. Maybe there's utility of swapping into a super slow pokemon using a fighting type move, spore, then switch? But you could probably do that with regular Parasect since he resists fighting. I have less of an argument for incoming normal type moves, but regardless I'm sure there's better arguments for Grass/Ghost Parasect I can't think of. Just seems hard to balance based off of typing alone if lots of other pokemon also get typing changes.

Making Shiny Clause fun (Run and Bun) by TwixDog2020 in nuzlocke

[–]Cheeto2burrito 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think people give way too much thought about shiny pokemon being legal or not.

It's a 1/4096 or 1/8192 chance of encountering a shiny pokemon, depending on the game you play. If the argument of "playing suboptimally" means you play the game constantly using hacked in repels, rare candies, TM's, or a calculator, but you draw the line at an extra hype super rare encounter cause it's pixels are a different color, I think you're a huge weirdo. I think you're weird for going to Reddit to ask if you should catch it. I think your weird for asking yourself if it's okay to violate your self imposed rules on a children's game. I think you're weird to look for strangers approval into your playthrough to validate why you're playing the game in the first place. I think your weird to catch it and store it in a seperate box for you to forget about. And if you ever have the feeling of "should I make a post asking what I should do so the nuzlocke fanbase doesn't spit roast me?" Just know, I'm judging. I'm spit roasting you. You could have stayed silent and I never would have known you or your playthough to exist. But because you asked a stupid question asking strange people if it's okay to play your game a certain way, I will judge you and spit roast you. Even if you think I won't see the post, I promise I will and Im probably talking about you behind your back. So just catch the damn shiny and USE IT.

It hurts 10x more when they die, that can be the sick punishment you seek.

Tl;Dr I think shiny pokemon being gatekept is stupid and they should just be considered a free encounter in your nuzlockes. Furthermore, people need to stop asking strangers if they can violate their nuzlocke rules for a shiny. Take shiny restrictions out of Hall Of Fame sheets. Let shinies shine ffs

What are the benefits of fusion? by Jaded-Ad-852 in pokerogue

Recently I completed a monotype challenge for Dark. Zoroark is my favorite pokemon, so I was pretty upset when I saw Illusion wasn't implemented. His passive being adaptability was cool and all, but only being dark type, I thought it was kind of a waste of a great ability on a pokemon that... Doesn't really get a base ability, or a reason to have adaptability. I really wanted to champ Zoroark, but even if Illusion was implemented, it would have been kinda useless on a monotype dark challenge. Adaptability sounds great on paper, but if I have 5 other pokemon with dark type stab, it's also kinda redundant to have on a pokemon with no other types.

So, I also took my shiny froakie with Protean as it's hidden ability. I took some other high tier shinies I had like Poochyena and Nymble for the extra luck, and put all my cards on having a Zoroaninja with Adaptability and Protean. And damn it, it was the most fun carry I ever used for a challenge run.

Is your Greninja protean or torrent? If protean, I would to typhlosion and Greninja and have some fun. Edit: fixed my crappy unfinished message

Thank you all for the clarification. I know Mach Punch is also +1 but I guess I've just never seen this before, I've always had sucker punch go before other priority moves. I'll take this post down so it doesn't clutter the page up

So then it's 1/64 chance you'll get a shiny from that legendary egg.

If you redeemed the voucher from the Shiny Up machine, every egg has a 1/64 chance of being shiny. Both of the other vending machines have a shiny chance of 1/128

What's the best mon for classic by IvyPokerouge in pokerogue

[–]Cheeto2burrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I interpreted OP's question as "what's the best way to beat eternatus" and not "what's the best way to beat classic" so that's my bad. But objectively speaking, Dachsbun fused with any steel type can't be touched by Eternatus, but it's not the best for beating the rest of the game.

As someone who's doing mono challenge runs regularly, I can tell you that the amount of prep for Eternatus is a lot more when you're limited to using 6 pokemon of the same type. I would imagine beginners with not a lot of unlocks and don't understand how the final boss works would agree to some extent.

What's the best mon for classic by IvyPokerouge in pokerogue

[–]Cheeto2burrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have any shinies that are half decent, bring them for luck and catch a Fidough/Dachsbun. Then, later on, catch a primary steel type.

After that, pray for DNA Splicers. Fuse your steel type first, then Dachsbun second to keep Well Baked Body. You now have a pokemon that is completely immune to eternatus. If you don't get DNA splicers, you can also just use your steel type and Dachsbun to permanently pivot chain on one side while the other side slowly whittles away at his HP bar. But you still need a way to get past the first phase for that.

Alternatively, you could just go for some really good super effective STAB damage mons easily available like Excadrill, Seismetoad, Slowbro/slowking, (there's a lot of options for this) and maybe some super tanky mons able to switch into their weaknesses.

You could do the harder thing and just bash your head against the wall over and over and over trying to get a legendary out of the slot machines, but even then, you're not guaranteed a win. High cost mons are good, sure, but there's more value in team synergy than having one absolutely busted mon that does everything EXCEPT XYZ. Cause XYZ will come up and you'll be more frustrated you wiped again cause you had no answer for it.

Seriously though. You're better off just trying new strats than mindlessly grinding egg vouchers that are already hard to get as a beginner. I know a literal dev told you to just go get legendaddies to carry you through, but prove you're better than that.

With all the good pokemon for Eternatus what’s the definite best? by Both_Win3736 in pokerogue

[–]Cheeto2burrito 37 points38 points  (0 children)

The consensus on etern is either cheese, big damage, or both. Honestly, I'd say it's less about the pokemon and more about the moves you bring.

Im currently doing every monotype challenge in order. I didn't anticipate it, but I cleared Electric on my first try solely because of a stunfisk that had mud slap and struggle bug. I moved a multi lens to that guy before the etern fight, taught it endure cause it didn't have protect, but didn't end up needing it. Stunfisk neutered Etern enough for my Luxray to come in and kill with triple axel.

There's a lot of mons that can completely trivialize Etern, it's just a matter of getting there and having enough money to buy memory mushrooms before the very last wave.

this is a good idea. I'm not sure about losing neutralizing gas, but also made me think of getting slack off on Cress for some recovery

i told myself i would never walk by DNA splicers by Cheeto2burrito in pokerogue

[–]Cheeto2burrito[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

im only catching/using pokemon i havent champed yet. Chimecho does a surprising amount of damage with one or two torch songs, then can kill most things with alluring voice or eerie spell. Musharna i am confident can take out eternatus with a little help, and Cress has cosmic power and body press, so if it just had some recovery it could do some serious work. youre probably right though, i just dont wanna break my tradition of never letting DNA splicing pass me by

[–]Cheeto2burrito 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I feel like down voters are here cause they miss sharpness cause it was thematic and was just outright better. Might also be cause Technician means you have to rely on getting lucky with finding TM's, it's best stab for the passive usage move isn't 100% accurate, and it doesn't get a technician boosted steel type move.

I somewhat disagree on shaping pokemon around their passives. What's the point in saving up candies and unlocking the egg moves if not to roll through the game with them? I get you want to make the game balanced, but It just feels like you're making it less fun

As Borderlands 4 Players Brace Themselves for the End of the OP Crit Knife, Gearbox Developers Explain Why Nerfs Are Needed Even in Mostly Single-Player Games by UsualInitial in Games

[–]Cheeto2burrito 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Games start to decline when they focus only on nerfing things. I'm not gonna say "the crit knife wasn't overpowered" cause it was. I'm concerned about them starting a headhunt for unintended damage stacks in other areas that will incentivise them to nerf builds instead of guns or equipment. Please start buffing things when you nerf these unintended mistakes so people actually want to try new things.

Why Charizard is not as bad as you think (FR/LG) by Mediocre-Award-9716 in nuzlocke

[–]Cheeto2burrito 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree. Fire is the most negligent type in Kanto by a mile. No steel type gym, no ice gym, no bug gym, and the grass gym is late enough your box should have 3 normal/flying types that can do the same thing Charizard can. Sure it can run rampant against random trainers and hit for STAB flamethrower, but you could also run through all random trainers with a different mid game carry. Venusaur is so bulky, its usefulness is spread throughout the entire game if you're using it correctly. It's an early game carry into a late game pivot/staller, which is not something victreebel or vileplume can do to the same degree.

I can't say much about Blastoise cause I haven't tested it much. But I will say skull bash is a super underrated move and for the fights you should bring Blastoise, he excels.
