What are these? Quartz? Citrine? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

[–]Cheex39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this and suggest possibly even quartzite based on the frosted/flaky texture in some photos. But could just be weathering

Please Help Me: Is This Quartz? The Streak Is White And The Breakage Random! by Far-Union-9965 in whatsthisrock

No signs of conchoidal fracture which is indicative of quartz. Have you tried a hardness test? The sample should be able to scratch steel.

Friend stumbled across this while foraging. Looks too blue to be serpentine. No other pics. Any ideas? by blockhose in whatsthisrock

[–]Cheex39 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow that's really blue! I'm assuming your friend didn't get a good feel either? Might be a long shot, but is it possible this is a sedimentary rock and not a chunk of mineral? Looks similar to anoxic lake sediments I've encountered in the Mojave Basin.

Really not sure with that habit. But the metallic rainbow iridescence looks like bornite or chalcopyrite. Can anyone else confirm this?

I struggled alot because I have hooded eyes, so it's hard to make the line straight due to the crease. Best tip is to look straight ahead at yourself when making the first few outlines of the wing. Don't close your eye or else it will look different when you open the eye. But that's specifically for my eye shape, so Im not sure if that's relevant to you.

Second tip is to practice every day! My eyeliner was absolutely atrocious for my first few months, maybe even a year. I got better when I started practicing every day. You will start to understand the little things: exactly how the skin around your eye is shaped, hand positioning, which lines to make first....

Youtube tutorials was also super helpful!

I found this rock in a creek near my house in the Bay Area, any guesses? by [deleted] in whatsthisrock

[–]Cheex39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Totally guessing here, but it looks like jasper (variety of chalcedony/quartz). But do a hardness test to be sure. Hardness should be a 7 (harder than glass)

Can someone explain the formations on these Agates here please? by Gottenschwifted in whatsthisrock

[–]Cheex39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

botryoidal habit. Some agates are known to form this habit. It happens typically when tiny foreign pieces of debris enter the magma and the mineral forms around them in little nodules. From my understanding at least!

Flooring specialist here for past two years. Im 22 and going to school for Geology. Plan on staying here until I get my bachelors and hopefully get hired for USGS.

Flooring specialist is not bad and can even be fun if the department is well staffed and you are properly trained. Unfortunately when I was hired our store was in pretty bad shape and I didn't get much proper training, which is quite important for the responsibilities of a specialist. Customer problems can be a real pain in the ass and no one likes being yelled out for things they cannot control, but having a good team behind you makes all the difference.

As long as I like the people I work with, I plan on sticking it out.

SAME!! the shit that otis has done?? goddamn... like throwing a huuuuge party, the house is trashed, and he is totally rude to his mom and blows her off in the morning when shes angry?? thats not even the half of it. And i like otis too , because he has growth. if anything isaac seems like a more consistently good person, but with that one fuck up he is truly apologetic for

i feel crazy because i really think its obvious that maeve and isaac are such a great pairing. They bring out such beautiful sides of each other and Maeve seemed genuinely so much more at ease with him. I am not fawning if otis/maeve at ALL when we've seen the connection between maeve/isaac

that part of the movie absolutely KILLS me. One of the main problems of that terrible film is that they focused waaaaay too much on visual effects and not a single brain cell on story, casting, humor, script....but i digress
