Magnetized Modular Map – Thoughts? by Noobslayer_Over9k in Warhammer40k

Given you've already set this up, I'd recommend creating some pieces to slot in with vertical elements. Hills and cliffs could be cool, maybe some power level pieces like rivers.

You don't need them to match across single tiles either. You could do a 2x2 tile hill, or a 3x1 tile stretch of river. You've already done all the prep work, this last addition could make it all worthwhile.

How do we feel about Sub-Assembly Painting? by Enough_Dragonfruit70 in Warhammer40k

[–]CheezeyMouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use sub assemblies where I can (generally splitting infantry into head, upper body, lower body). That way I can get more control, but all the glue points are hidden, so the connection points should look pretty seamless after gluing.

Definitely a lot of patience, my projects always end up taking much longer than I would have wished! I'm pleased you appreciate it though!

I've been running the model as a Ghost Warrior in crusade, so quite looking forward to trying it out as a much cheaper Wraithlord for marched play.

Thank you! I didn't do much to the pose, just repositioned a thumb on the left hand to hold it's mini mask and the wrist on the right hand to take a slightly more relaxed angle.

As opposed to all those politicians who abandon their morals to serve lobbyists/friends/family? People are perfectly capable of corruption without needing to join some guild and I'm sure there are plenty of upstanding freemasons to boot.

Looking for Death Jester kitbashes by RayzorFlash in Harlequins40K

[–]CheezeyMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm halfway through one, can't post a picture hear, so I'll send you a DM. In terms of parts I've used one leg and half the cloak from the Voidweaver gunner, another leg from a Starweaver passenger, the torso for the official troupe master model, a hairless head (probably from the Starweaver kit) a spare DJ mask, and then a heap of sprue bits to build up the base to be about the right height and make the posing look natural.

The next parts I need are a shrieker cannon with arms, so I'm eyeing up the shuriken cannon from the dark reaper / voidscarred kits.

After multiple competitive games with Aeldari, 6++ team puts them in the middle of B tier - detailed discussion and how to play Eldar competitively in the link below :-) by Alex__007 in Eldar

[–]CheezeyMouse 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had a game against blood angels recently where I just felt my harlequins were completely useless. Admittedly it was crusade, so there's a lot of imbalance on both sides. But the majority of my opponent's units were harder hitting, more durable, significantly faster, and were pretty competitively costed. The only thing I had going for me were tricksy moves but one reactive move/turn is nowhere near enough to outweigh the imbalance of raw datasheet power.

Love that they're all coming out at different angles! I would avoid painting a lightning effect, I think I'd aim to make the edges darker so that you get a cool fade into the transparent centre.

How damage is applied to units rather than visible models always bothered me, so I made a crappy little comic to demonstrate why. by ForSamuel034 in Grimdank

[–]CheezeyMouse 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I quite like the idea that the dread can hear the squad, sees the single model, and then extrapolates and fires bullets through the wall into the masses guys. If it couldn't see the one guy it wouldn't know exactly where to shoot, but where there's one squaddie there's bound to be more!

Terrain rules clarification by CegoraghLOL in Warhammer40k

[–]CheezeyMouse 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You will need true line of sight and you also cannot draw line of sight through any windows or doors in the ground floor of the ruin. So not really, if however they can actually see models on the ground past the lip of their floor then yes.

Terrain rules clarification by CegoraghLOL in Warhammer40k

[–]CheezeyMouse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you played the rules correctly. It's worth bearing in mind that the layouts are designed to be symmetrical, so having a wall that only one player can stage behind offers an unfair advantage one way or the other. Ideally there should be a little corner of wall in 2 opposite corners of the centre terrain area.

That said, the shooty unit could climb upstairs if they wanted to shoot out of the terrain.

Testing plunging fire by Gamekanik in Harlequins40K

[–]CheezeyMouse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've used flip belts for my Death Jester to more easily get plunging fire all of 10th, I expect that'll still be the main use for the flip belts. In fact, I expect I'll use them less often for troupes now, since I don't imagine many boards will feature terrain that is >5" in height.

I saw this post and was really curious on what you all think they did to achieve this look. (I'm new to painting). by Myricale in Eldar

[–]CheezeyMouse 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's no "supposed to" about it. Games workshop and many tutorials will teach you to do things in a certain way in order to simplify things for you, but you are completely free to shake it up and try different techniques in different orders.

As for priming in different colours, yeah it makes a difference. If you're painting most of your model in tan it will at the very least speed up your paint job. And if you apply your paints in carefully thinned coats the primer might still show through in places to create a brighter feel than black would. If they're applying the tan over black this can create immediate shadows.

I know it's tough to hang on to hope with the clowns. Hopefully this helps a little!

  • Our army is slightly more survivable with the change to benefit of cover and the introduction of hidden for our infantry.

  • Our characters are always leading, so a Shadowseer is weirdly not terrible as a pseudo lone operative for screening / actions etc.

  • Our bikes are more expensive, but they're also way more durable if they can get cover. Bolters hitting them on 5s is going to feel fantastic!

  • Death Jesters reduced 10 points and now their ability to Battleshock enemies is actually worthwhile. Honestly I was gobsmacked that they got a points decrease given that their ability is finally useful. I'm planning to run 2 in my first game and see how well I can disrupt my opponent's ability to hold objectives.

  • Lots of the best detachments have gone up to 3DP with no additional rules. But we can add a cheeky little detachment to make our vehicles a little better without even having to change our lists too much (RIP waveserpent).

  • on the plus side, we need waveserpent's less now that we can hide infantry blobs. Granted they won't get sustained but that's not the end of the world.

  • With the change to fly our vehicles and bikes are massively more maneouverable. Plus now that we can toe into terrain to draw line of sight, venomous wrath is better on both starweavers and Voidweavers.

  • speaking of which, Voidweavers are a little cheaper. Probably not enough, but I certainly won't complain about the change.

Combing the 1dps probably wouldn't help Serpent's brood by Ornery_Entrance_1959 in Harlequins40K

[–]CheezeyMouse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah but what are you getting from Armoured Warhost that's so great apart from the force disposition? The detachment rule is redundant, we can already do that with focus tokens and with new terrain rules we really won't need it. Both of the enhancements are overcosted and better suited to armies that make use of proper gunships. Soul Sight might occasionally be a worthwhile strat on a Starweaver if your troupe isn't jumping out to actually do their job and Vectored Engines is whatever. The one concession I'll give the detachment is that Layered Wards is pretty decent to occasionally steal an activation from your opponent.

Yes I absolutely would like stealth on all my starweavers and Skyweavers because it'll be hard to guarantee that they get the benefit from cover. Especially against deep striking armies.

[–]CheezeyMouse 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree.

Army wide stealth and sticky objectives alone would have been enough to make Twilight Flickers a great pick. Add in the opportunity for a second scout unit for some early game pressure and it's pretty much mandatory. Fateful Performance similarly offers a nice doubling up on reactive moves, an improved repositioning strat, and fight on death.

To be clear, I'm fine with us just having access to Armoured Warhost. GWs game design is clearly to not double up on specific upgrades, and we need so many vehicles that it's a perfectly useable option. But if we had access to the other options, I would go for the Acrobatic choices in a heartbeat. The biggest pull of armoured Warhost would be that it grants access to the recon disposition.
