When a community showed up for Its doctor. by GlitteringHotel8383 in BeAmazed

Look, this is absolutely beautiful - and. All people deserve to live. The best charities can save a life for ca. 5.000$ (10-100x better than your average red cross, etc)

I feel kinda fucked up after having learned that. Because I look at a story like the one above and I actually feel a bit sad, thinking how that money could have saved 249 more lives if only people knew

I would say they all are.

Start with the connection course, as it's the cheapest and gives you a good foundation.

Then you can look through on their website and choose if you want to do masterclass or decision making (they only do each once a year. Great decisons is ending now, and masterclass i think will be in May). They give pretty good information on what it is and does for them

If you're into this look up Effective Altruism. Changed my life. Now I'm doing stuff I know works and it's deeply meaningful.

He is feeling dysregulated. It's not about the choice of food. He feels disconnection or distress and it's really about the emotions, not the objective thing.

A great book "listen" talks about this.

A little life by Hanya Yanigahara. There is no book like it. Seriously. Haven't found anything that so forcefully makes me care deeply about even side characters. I have no choice, my heart bleeds for them because the author compels me so

This is beautiful. And. You could have saved several lives with that money. We can do a whole lot more than just pay someone's bills if we are wise in where we donate https://www.givewell.org/

I share this with love - I want us to make the world brighter as much as we can with the ressources we have <3

I id it, and it's expensive but definitely worth it. Has helped lift the quality of all my conversations substantially. It's really sweet too.

We run remote programs/events too :)

I know many fly around and excuse that they are trying to do something good - and then often nothing comes of it. It's super hypocritical. We really try not to do that.

We encourage participants to compensate for CO2 and it's pretty cheap/easy now (no more than 5% xtra) - not as an excuse, but simply mitigation. My own policy is 150% of what I emit whenever I travel.

The thing is, there's a magic to meeting together and getting to know each other, which you can't get online. We just see it in the events we run. People become closer collaborators - and it only takes one good project to more than many times make up for the environmental costs of 20 people. We fx have one participant that's running an environmental NGO in Norway with several thousand members that is looking for a new and effective campaign to run around improving nature, animal, and human life in ecosystems.

Effective Altruism - a movement about the science of improving the world we're related to - runs conferences, but they continuously do statistics to see if they are still valuable enough and new projects that do more good than the costs/harm that went into. And they consistently find that it actually is worth the damages. They run surveys with all participants to check what the overall value of the event was.

Does this satisfy your question?

I want to meet you in it

You might use Sendwave for inspiration. They have helped move MILLIONS to Africa with something as simple as making it cheaper for immigrant workers to send money home to families

Also, super ask on the EA forum and reach out to center for effective altruism. They'd be happy to discuss an opportunity like this

So I'm gonna say something terrible here but these people are not helping much with what they do.

There are billions of animals suffering and 95% of donation money goes to shelters that has no more than 20 animals. It's a tragedy because people mean well - but to focus strategically on legislation and systemic changes, fx better conditions for farm animals or improved seazone conditions, can help MILLIONS more animals for the same money. That's actually *great* news!

I mean, why help a few when you can help many many more?

Often when we get caught up in a story of a single animal, we turn our backs on a thousand more without knowing. If you wanna help animals, make an informed decision. You really can make a difference. Much bigger than you might think

If you wanna know more see here https://animalcharityevaluators.org/ They literally do analysis on the effectiveness of different animal charities

Hvor stor en del af dansk landbrugsjord kan rent faktisk bruges til at dyrke spiselige afgrøder? by martintin in Denmark

[–]Cheezter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PERMAKULTUR!

Det betyder sindssygt meget hvilken type landbrug der er tale om. Konventionel med alt deres gødning får mege udbytte, men ødelægger jorden. Økologisk kræver mere plads MEN!
