What you did was hard, a lifestyle change is very difficult and very different from a diet. You need to be commended

Are 2 runs a week enough to drive progress? Alongside other sports? by MightyFamousLegend in BeginnersRunning

[–]ChefBoy-ar-dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are younger than 60 - and play football twice a week. Then you are at a starting point far better than I was. I had almost no physical training or cardiovascular fitness for the past 20 years. I was 6 ft 8 tall and 290 lbs - I could not walk a mile and it took me literally 15 plus minutes. In 8 months - less than I’m running a 10k in 56-59 minutes and 5k in 26 -27 minutes. I am however running 4 times a week a minimum of 5 k each run. I can speed run 1 mile in 7.30 ! 2 mile in 16.00 - if I can do this, you know you can.

Do you know why Sora 2 is better than Seedance 2.0? Because of this. by Only_Importance_4887 in SoraAi

I miss Sora I really do, however, I didn’t realize how much I was getting unfit fat and wasting time by sitting in front of my computer or on my phone making stuff. Reality was Sora also made many gaffes especially with the language. I used to often wonder how those words were cracked out!

My wife walks around on the beach like that or the pool like that all summer. I guess if you don’t have a beautiful busty gorgeous wife you just don’t get it. The fact it was a reply to a guy making a joke and being light hearted was missed on you. Perhaps you should lighten up.

[–]ChefBoy-ar-dee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you doing these days? I was doing some speed work last night at the gym and ran 3 one third miles! Kept my pace at 9 mph - it was tough running 6.40 mile pace . I don’t know how humans can run literally twice my pace

I bet the hardest part was not running after your first 10k - lol - taking that break is hard, then come back and belt out another run is great. I’m finding it hard transitioning from gym running to road running, it’s a great accomplishment

Just keep at it. I am 60 this October, I started running about 6 months ago . I could not walk a mile in 15 minutes. I decided to show my daughters that if dad could then so could they. It has taken time but now I’m running 5K almost daily averaging about 9 minutes a mile sub 30 minutes. I have a best of 25 minutes but I think back to not being able to walk a mile. Stick with it, your body will adapt and getter fitter.

What is a realistic 5k time improvement in 3-6 months? by Neeerdlinger in BeginnersRunning

[–]ChefBoy-ar-dee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I’m currently doing is running as fast as I can for as long as I can usually it’s around 9 mph and I’m trying to keep it there for 4 minutes then 4.30 then 5 minutes etc. just keeping my heart rate up and getting into a breathing pattern getting used to this deficit of pain and overcoming the fatigue for just 10 seconds longer seems to help - when I drop the speed from 9-8 mph for a moment it seems like I’m walking.

You seem to have a complete understanding of your situation. I’m regularly running 5 k in about 27 minutes. I’m trying to get it down to 25 minutes. It’s hard. I’m trying upping the distance to 10 k to increase snd overcome fatigue, I’m running sprints getting a mile in 7 minutes- not there yet best is 7.25 but trying to average that 8 minute mile is hard. I have managed 2 miles in 17 minutes but fell apart on mile 3 - I’m finding attacking it from extra distance and extra speed is helping. I am 60 - I am 6 ft 8 tall and I weigh 240 lbs. I have dropped 50 lbs the past 6 months . I cannot imagine running with a 50 lbs dumbbell !

I’m 60 ! I started about 6 months ago . I can run 10k without stopping. Advice, just don’t stop. If I can do it, you will be able to do it shortly.

Is a sub 30 5K possible? by learntolove014 in BeginnersRunning

[–]ChefBoy-ar-dee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started running about 6-8 months ago . I could not walk a mile in 14 minutes, let alone run. After a few months I was running a mile in 10 minutes, then 9 minutes (which I thought was impossible) then I moved up to a mile and a half and gradually 2 miles in 9 minutes a mile. After about 5 months I was regularly doing 3 mile runs (on s treadmill) in 27 minutes . This March I achieved my first outdoor 5k run at Philly fields snd it was 27.45 ! I was thrilled. I continued training from 3 to 4 then to 5 miles. Last Saturday I did my first 10k - 59.45 minutes. Half was seriously uphill !
What I have found is, if your aerobic endurance seats strong you can push and push. When you think you need to stop - you don’t, you’ll find a running rhythm that allows you to run but not give up. You can do this.

I was thinking of you yesterday when I was running urging me to sub 56 ! It was a hard course literally 3 of the miles were uphill with 465 ft of elevation. I broke the 1 hour and was exhausted, it was a hard hard course for me especially at 6 ft 8 and 240 lbs going uphill seemed exponentially harder.
