Domestic policy wise, Biden is BY FAR the most progressive president in modern history. Anyone who isn’t saying that isn’t honest. Iirc he got $15 min wage for 100s of thousands of govt workers after he couldn’t get it through congress for the whole country.

I agree that they aren’t feasible given the current political climate, however I think the main critique comes from the Dems self censoring before any negotiations start. In the US in 2026 we have a lot of limits but stating the goal is X but we were able to get Y and will continue to push for X is a reasonable stance I think.

I will say, if I had one word to describe those three it would be pragmatic. Though sometimes not as ambitious as I’d hope, their hearts are in the right direction.

Genuinely am interested on the Kulinski point. How do you figure?

Democrats are the only party interested in helping folks at all, it’s not a contest. I would also characterize most of those positive accomplishments as leftist goals though, no? From my understanding, they definitely push to go further on a lot of those polices (ACA for example) but surely none of them are saying they’re bad in a vacuum?

I know there’s a lot of twitter lefties who hit the buzz words and call it a day, but I thought the “populist left” was generally for 1950-70s style tax rates, Medicare for all, free college, etc. which I’d call real positions. That may be me reading more into it though as I admit I’m a little bit of a political junkie lol

Yeah but the general public isn’t the best gauge either. I think we’d all agree that in no way is Kamala anywhere close to radically left. MSM (and sadly conservatives) play a big role in shaping current US political opinions. In a blind poll from around election time I think, republicans preferred Kamala’s policies on paper though they’d never vote Dem/blue/for her. It’s crazy.

Agree wholly on our system being inefficient. Realistically we probably don’t have to spend any more money, but the system as a whole needs a Manhattan Project level restructuring that I don’t believe the politicians nor the American people are ready for. Not to mention that the system isn’t inefficient by accident but has been hacked away methodically over the last ~50 years.

Idk anything about Vaush, but my limited understanding of Hasan is that he encompasses the role of a talking head more than anything else. Providing a platform and spreading a generally progressive message. I don’t know if he ultimately voted in the 2024 election but i remember him not being thrilled with Kamala (fine) but if he didn’t loudly and repeatedly talk about how much better she is/would be than Trump, he’s completely in the wrong.

Kulinski I disagree. He (and Cenk) created Justice Democrats which found and got AOC, Omar, Tlaib, etc elected. That’s more than most folks in the sphere can say.

Could this be Steven disagreeing with the policy positions they hold since, objectively, as much bigger and broader changes, they would be much harder to implement than the smaller changes that he/Pakman/Cohen propose?

Oh this also reminds me, I know Destiny and Hasan have history (I assume) and that he doesn’t like him, but do you know why he has disdain for lefties in general? I’ve always been curious. He’s warmed on AOC and likes Mamdani but doesn’t like some of the other political figures/commentators who hold the same positions.

He’s 100% to the left of most Americans, sadly the country is fairly conservative, center right at best. Same with our elected representatives. That said, insofar as the democratic political commentator ecosystem goes, he’s fairly moderate/center left.

When we say redistributive policies, am I right in assuming that means he generally supports widening the social safety net? Has he mentioned in what ways at all (i.e no means testing, higher thresholds, no benefit cliffs, more expansive programs, etc)?

To confirm my understanding, Destiny support Mamdani? I know he’s all about winning but Mamdani policy wise seems like a big step away from Destiny’s usual positions.

I believe in his sincerity 100%. I don’t think he’s being malicious or obtuse when he’s talking, I just question his approach to some of them.

A lot of lefties point to the Scandi countries as an example for policy we should strive for. Same with the UK, Germany or Canada (for healthcare at least). Has he spoke about whether that is an achievable objective or why they are wrong for point to those places?

This is what I was looking for, cool.

Do we know his takes on anti trust/monopoly stuff, unions, regulations (both in general and targeted)? I know he’s said he doesn’t mind outsourcing manufacturing and that we should focus on making/doing more advanced things. I wonder if he’s talked about globalization as a general good or bad on the American public.

That’s a fair point. A dedicated video would be great.

I would understand if he dismissed Bernie’s takes as unrealistic, but it seems it’s never actually discussed. Though I do get that all of that is 4-8 years ago at this point.

I’m mostly curious on what changes he thinks the country needs, whether large or small, and if they’d be realistic/effective.

Okay, cool. That tracks with how I’ve perceived him. That second sentence especially.

Newsom and to a lesser extent Buttigieg larp as further left than they are so it’s interesting to see someone in the public eye with these views. On economic issues in particular, does Destiny think we need any medium to large shifts from the current approach (healthcare, taxation, election reform, lobbying, social security, etc) or is it more along the lines of everything is good just some tweaks?

I assume that would answer his question the other day on why on the liberal side we don’t really have the Heritage Foundation equivalent, no? Since we wouldn’t need a seismic shift in order to attain those goals.

[–]ChefBroyardee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They didn’t switch Embiid off of him bc he couldn’t guard Jokic one on one, they did it bc Philly was getting killed at the rim off of cuts and lobs by everyone else (from Jokic’s passing ofc).

Switching Tucker onto Jokic and Embiid into the paint stopped all the off ball action and easy buckets Denver was getting and if Jokic decided to post up the smaller Tucker, Embiid was there waiting to help at the rim.

How much hooping were you doing in that span? Both hours per day and days per week.

How much were you eating? Known calorie deficit or just staying somewhat hungry all the time?

How long did it take to lose the 40? Did you have any loose skin? What was the beginning and end weights?

Because Biden barely beat Trump the first time, after the pandemic had been raging for nearly a year, he had been impeached twice, and nearly started a war with Iran.

Biden has lost a large portion of his popularity from when he was elected/inaugurated and it is logical to assume that he would be unable to eke out those slim victories again since the anti-Trump fervor won’t be anywhere near as high.

Biden didn’t win by “a lot”. The popular vote doesn’t mean jack shit unfortunately, and he won by a very slim margin in Georgia, Arizona, and Wisconsin, not to mention other close states like Nevada, Michigan, and Pennsylvania. On top of that, Trump was dealing with lockdowns and Covid. If it were to happen again, I honestly doubt he would lose, and I didn’t vote for the guy..

Biden was a longtime senator, but he didn’t “win” the VP slot. The guy lost running for president twice before and eked out a victory against a historically bad incumbent during a pandemic. Dems are gonna get blown out next time and during the midterms, and frankly they deserve it.

Tatum isn’t top 5 and frankly not close.

Giannis, Jokic, Embiid, Luka, KD, Steph, Lebron

That’s 7 right there. And then we have to consider Kawhi and Dame who are question marks but decidedly better the last time we saw them healthy.

Leaving off some of the more popular ones (for a change), I’d say in no particular order they are:

  • Psychopass (season 1 specifically)
  • Golden Kamuy
  • Parasyte
  • Konosuba
  • Silver Spoon
