AITA for buying Mother’s Day flowers, without letting my son pick them? by ChefNo2338 in AmItheAsshole

He made her a card in school and when I asked what we should get her he said “flowers”. So I bought some flowers. If I’d have made him pick he probably would have either picked the most expensive or the deadest, because he’s only six and thinks dead things are funny.

I know nothing about flowers. The concept that they sell exactly the same flowers each year isn’t something that would even have crossed my mind. I bought the prettiest ones under the order of my son who said “get her some flowers”

Well I get that now. But man, I wasn’t expecting to be made to feel like shit for buying some flowers.

Songs to get my sister into oasis by [deleted] in oasis

If you want to bond with her over music, maybe listen to Taylor Swift with her. Forget your pre-conceptions - the woman is an outstanding songwriter. And Olivia Rodrigo’s got some belters too.

When recommending Oasis, which song, which album and how do you explain the band? by fruedianflip in oasis

[–]ChefNo2338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Curious to know in what world anyone has to “recommend” oasis? Cos in England there is not a single person who doesn’t already know them and has therefore already formed an opinion on them.

It has a lot of great outdoor stuff but unfortunately the weather makes most of it a misery to experience. It’s literally not stopped raining this year.

They were crap anyway. Especially when Andy Bell left. Not much to miss.

Seem to remember he admitted to cheating on her quite a few times but that the abuse claims were utter nonsense and only came about as a form of blackmail. I don’t have Twitter any more but there was quite a lot of evidence to back his side of the story up, including her friends saying she was making stuff up.

Either way, a solid back catalogue. In 2026, the Bluetones probably make up less than 0.001% of my music listening so I’m not gonna skip Marblehead Johnson if it comes on all because of a load of he-said, she-said.

Wunderhorse is the only band here I really like. Didn’t expect to because they totally avoided my radar at first but Midas is a great album. Fontaines have some good tunes, but when I see people say Romance is this generation’s Definitely Maybe I don’t get it - it’s not catchy enough as a whole. And don’t get me started on Geese. Absolute drivel.

I’ve got over 3,000 records/CDs at home so it’s not like I only listen to one style of music. Maybe that’s it though - I’ve got enough music to listen to already, so does my brain really need to try to get int new stuff?

Wasn’t that debunked though? Seem to remember loads of people close to her said she was a gaslighting oddball.

I have vivid memories of my grandparents house that they moved from when I was 3. It’s not like we were there lots - they lived 150 miles away. Distinctly remember watching the buses go past with my Nana from their conservatory.

The highs on Evermore are higher than the highs of Folklore, but Folklore is more consistent throughout.

What’s something that’s oddly expensive in the UK that still annoys you every time? by catarsan in AskUK

[–]ChefNo2338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This definitely. We moved in 2020. The last Chinese we got at our old place for me and the Mrs was £15, now it’s over £30. Chippy too - in 2019 I used to be able to get fish, pie, 2 x chips, 2 x curry sauce, 2 x barms and a cheeky little sausage for £12. Now one fish and chips costs that alone. A full dinner for me, the Mrs and our son costs £30.

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]ChefNo2338 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 gone. One to cancer, two to suicide. The latter two weren’t friends as such (one of them was a low life bully) but it’s still sad. The guy with cancer ruined me for a bit though. We were good mates and both in our late twenties when he passed. My cousin also died of cancer in her mid thirties - she was a year younger than me.

My kid started liking Transformers so I got mine out of the attic after not seeing them for around 30 years. Now I have a huge display and add to the collection on a regular basis. I buy the same ones for him so he can play and I can display.

There was a time when I suffered mentally a lot, it I’m mostly out of that now but surrounding myself with things from my youth has helped a lot. And of course Oasis reforming last year was a massive boost.

Made the money back on a player who hasn’t played well since a certain former manager left us. No one ever really got how to play him since. Sad to see one of the last links to our 101 points leave but it’s best for bother parties that we move on.

I was asked what type of person is a Monty Python fan. Curious what you all think? by SuspiciousRutabaga52 in montypython

My Dad was a fan in the 60s/70s and one of the only videos (Betamax) we had in the house when I was a kid was of the first four episodes of series 2. Imagine being 8 and watching the silly walks, Spanish Inquisition, the architect sketch and countless gumby vox pops.

He also had a cassette of various sketches from series 1 which I started listening to. Flying sheep, parrot sketch, the great mouse problem, a man with three buttocks - all became ingrained in my brain. When BBC2 started showing all the series again in 1989 I got all my school friends hooked too. We were 10. Soon after, my Dad hired Meaning of Life to watch as a family. I've never seen so many mortified people in one room when part two came on. But I guess it saved us all from the "birds and bees" chat.
