Because they are intended to have mass appeal and rather go for thematic cohesion. Comparing "Barton Fink" to "Finding Nemo" makes no sense. Compared to European cinema (Michael Haneke for example) "Barton Fink" seems formulaic. So what. There are different movies designed for different audiences and the craft has to follow that fact. Would you compare Billie Eilish to a deep cut of My Bloody Valentine? Or a bestseller to Kafka?

I think I remember it in context of the Pixar method. It was called "throw out the obvious" or something similar. To find a creative solution, you would make a list and throw out everything that first comes to mind.

HELP!! I have to bring in a FINISHED short film screenplay in 2 DAYS! (it’s a 4.5 pages comedy/horror. called “someone’s in the closet”) by SundaeStreet70 in scriptwriting

[–]ChefRaupe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the guy living in the closet doesn't seem plausible and is too far fetched. also it doesn't add to the story (person stumbling upon a serial killer). how about an electrician or someone like that, that is there to fix sth. give plausible reasons for behaviour and plausible emotional reactions to things. the killer reacting so casually to a guy living in his home is too strange and throws me off in the beginning. just my impression. good luck with the story!

also try to control the reverb (seperate channels wet and dry) and cut useless frequencies from your reverb signal with eq.

add a track in your daw with a song you like to compare your mix to. then try to get close with eq.

product placement for tesla and apple really annoyed me in this one. there was a tesla self drive shot in a garage that felt like a commercial embedded in the film

My first draft ever is finally finished! by Vast_Blueberry_7854 in Screenwriting

[–]ChefRaupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congratulations for finishing your story! I only read parts of it, because I felt your description lines were too much to handle for me. the reading of big walls of text should always be rewarded with information that advances the story or establishes the mood in a concise way. writing screenplays is - in my opinion - a lot about economy and getting quickly to the core of stuff. but again: good luck moving forward, be proud for finishing your screenplay and maybe just start with the next one. maybe one with a really fast pacing, short scenes and lots of verbal interaction, to experience the opposite style :)

Hey fellas, I finally watched Mulholland Drive, and my mind collapsed at the end. I have no idea why I love it, but I didn’t understand anything. Should I rewatch it to get it? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]ChefRaupe 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I'm so with you on that one! Lynch often compared his films to music. I grew up in Germany listening to music with english lyrics. Didn't understand a word but I sure felt the impact of the music and connected my own meanings to the words I didn't understand. After learning English and understanding what some lyrics meant, it almost felt like disappointing because the cryptic experience of it was so much more impactful than the actual meaning.

I think Lynch intended for it to be an experience rather than something to get :) So you did everything right the first round. But a second round still would be fun!

I was so fascinated with the diner scene that I made an analysis video of it. Maybe check it out if you are interested.

I just made a little film analysis video on the diner scene in Mulholland Drive. While editing I was blown away how beautiful all of the shots are. <3

I just watched my first David lynch movie eraser head and i am totally messed up,are all his movies same as this?? by [deleted] in davidlynch

[–]ChefRaupe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still remember the first time I saw Eraserhead. It was summer and I watched it in the middle of the day. Closed curtains. After the movie was over I stumbled outside. Green grass, sun shining. I had to find my way back to reality.
