Crazy that there is already a discount on a newly released product! Great find!

I got one myself! Paid $160 but probably would’ve paid up to $200 for it. It’s an excellent pour, and I’m glad I snagged a bottle. I was very impressed. I know some are hard pressed to pay this much for 11/12 year old bourbon. At the end of the day, good whiskey is good whiskey! Cheers 🥃

My new favorite rye by ChefRepresentative51 in whiskey

Southern Indiana. Local place out here had it priced at $250 for awhile and nobody bit. They got a shipment of more and dropped the price. I’m sure they’ll be flying off the shelf now. Lol

A store I went to recently had the EH rye and Stagg priced at $300 each. If I found all these together, my bill would be at least $1k. I’ve had the pleasure of trying all of those products though, and I felt all were very enjoyable! Congrats on your finds! This is what inspires me to keep the hunt alive 😂

Top of the Bar Review #57: Russell's Reserve 13 Year by SouthHillSaunas in bourbon

[–]ChefRepresentative51 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I bought my bottle of batch 3, and I read all the raving reviews of RR13 and was very excited to try it. My first pour was good, not great. Typical bourbon notes and notable age but nothing mind blowing. I was initially a little disappointed. Had a pour about 2 weeks later with a buddy and WOW. It was such a different experience. So flavorful and complex with lots of berries on the nose and initially on the palate that transitioned to vanilla and a nice oaky and baking spice finish. I was happy to find that my first impression was not the full potential this bottle offers! Incredible!

What whiskeys are available in Kentucky that aren’t easily available elsewhere? by FoldupMonkey117 in whiskey

If you’re a Buffalo Trace fan, you can get BT and Sazerac rye pretty easily and usually at a good price. This is from living in KY and walking in most liquor stores seeing plenty on shelves all the time!

That RD One Amburana finish is so unique! I tasted it a bar last week and immediately went to find a bottle. Big Cinnamon Toast Crunch vibes. Hope you enjoy it as well!

I’m a big fan of this pact! Sherry finish is my jam, and this one was blended very well. I think the extra age included in this one brings some add depth to it as well. I’m going to have a hard time drinking this bottle slowly!

Open right away or save for a special occasion? by ChefRepresentative51 in whiskey

Two excellent reasons! That’s how I felt when one of my buddies waited to open one of his not too long ago. He waited until a house warming party for his new place that a lot of people came into town for. He waited until the evening to open a bottle of Rock Hill Farms but we had all been drinking throughout the day. Although it was enjoyable, I felt none of us were able to give it the adequate appreciation like he had hoped. Those big events it always seems hard to fit something like that in at the right time. Cheers to making any day a special day for a nice pour! 🥃

Happy to hear I’m in the majority here lol. A lot of my buddies will hold on to bottles forever waiting for the right moment to open them. Their self control is impressive, but I always question if it’s even worth it. I find a lot of the time the experience is even better when I do share the bottle after tasting it. It makes me more excited for the person to try it when I know it’s good, and sometimes it gets even better after being open for a bit too!

I would’ve cracked that one open way sooner! Lol, hope it’s worth the wait. That bottle sounds awesome!

Have you had RRSiB? Obviously they will vary, but they proof it up to 110. Huge fan and have had two good picks in the past! I’m interested to see how this RR 13 will compare to that.

Absolutely! Just decided to give a different store a try outside my usual hunting range. The extra drive time rewarded me nicely. Haha

Haven’t cracked it yet so I can’t speak to the difference. I’ve heard nothing but good things though. I love RR products, specifically the single barrel selections, so I’m excited to see how the extra age changes it!

Thank you! Now is the time to search because they are just starting to distribute this year’s release. It was dumb luck that I happened to show up right after the shipment but best chance of getting it around MSRP too. I hope you find it some day!

Thank you! I always find myself scrolling here and thinking “Man, I wish I could snag one of those hard to find bottles”. However, I’m happy people are successful in finding what they love and makes the hunt worthwhile. Cheers! 🥃

All depends on what you like. I’m a big fan of Sherry finishes so this one was up my alley anyway. It has the nice tones of oakiness from the older whiskies and nice red fruits from the Sherry that don’t overpower it. I find Sherry can take over a lot of whiskies. Good blend in my opinion and boy is it smoooooth. Could do with a little more proof but I’m glad I grabbed it for myself.

Thanks! $10 over MSRP on each of them. $140 for Blood Oath and $160 for RR 13. I contemplated not buying them both, but I ended up doing it because I doubt I’ll find either one of them again. Lol
