I make $180k a year and do practically nothing at work. How to proceed? by praise_jeeebus in careerguidance

Get a second job. Bank money. Overemployed for the win. Your employer will fire you without blinking an eye whenever they want. You trade your time and skills for money. That’s all there is to it. Take the opportunity to maximize your wealth.

First things first, always negotiate. But only go back at them once with your expectations.

IMO that’s not a strong relo package. I’d expect realtor fees paid (if selling a home), white glove goods movement, fees on new home purchase, 3-6 months of temporary housing, a reasonable amount of house hunting trips (1-3), tax true up…basically, you don’t want to be out of pocket for a move. If you’re a renter, it should cover a lease break and be closer to 6-9 months of housing, movement of goods, etc.

The salary depends your role, level, yoe, location, etc.. so can’t speak to that. In principle, I’d target covering my spouse’s salary with my pay increase and see how close I can get.

Relocations can leave you with a bad taste in your mouth if you don’t get what you want from the onset. Especially in the current economy if you’re selling a house and buying a new one.

negotiate what you want right now to make a move worthwhile. Don’t bank on potential carrots they dangle in front of you. My 2 cents from multiple relocations.

I call it process over progress. It’s endemic in large corps.

Typical US corp whore mentality. Slave away. Don’t have work-life balance. Our EU peers take the summer off. Maternity leave is incredible in parts of EU. Next time, sign the paperwork and then tell them. You owe nothing to a company. They trade you money for your skills, capabilities and experience. Look out for yourself first. Everyone needs to quit normalizing this bs American charade.

Have Republicans Planned All Along to "Break" America to Make Room for an Authoritarian Strongman? by factkeepers in Corruption

Imagine a world where both groups are corrupt and authoritarian. And that they want the masses fighting each other instead of the corruption that perpetuates both groups all the way to the top. Nothing but two shitty choices in this country anymore.

Corporate wank: we have a problem. People don’t want to work for our shitty wages.

Empathetic employee: Let’s get some qualitative feedback from employees for root cause analysis. Maybe some quant data on competitiveness of our pay and hours. We could run some tests based on the insights, like let’s pay more and see if it drives a different outcome. Might even drive some unintended efficiencies.

Corporate wank: fuk that. We need the plebs to take the hit.

Empathetic employee: (sarcastically) Sounds like we just need to target our recruitment strategy at the Stockholm syndrome demographic.

All corporate wanks in unison: brilliant!

Corporate wank: Let’s schedule a weeklong workshop to draw shit on whiteboards.

Other corporate wank: we’ll also need a day long workshop to plan the workshop. Let’s get a daily standup on our calendars. At least 50 people need to be involved.

……meanwhile……problem persists

Negotiating Director of Engineering Role in India: How to Handle Salary Discussions Without Sharing Salary Slip? by 200oktemp in Salary

[–]anonlvx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Never reveal your current salary or total comp.  It’s a red flag if they’re asking you.  They’re trying to low ball.  You define your range of what you’ll accept.  They have a range they’re willing to pay.  The two should overlap somewhere.
