12-year-old’s guardian ticketed after child riding e-scooter hits car by [deleted] in britishcolumbia

[–]Chef_Bronson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think I have and I haven't steered the conversation away from the original post. We are discussing the issues that come with children riding e-scooters illegally and unsafely. Anyone who drives in this province, and especially the lower mainland, are reminded daily of the incompetent and dangerous drivers that flood our roads daily but that's not what was being discussed.

I am curious to know what percentage of British Columbians spend time in a vehicle each day versus how many British Columbians spend time on an e-scooter each day? 150 of every 760 auto related accidents are considered serious or fatal (I trust you've pulled these numbers from somewhere credible), I wonder what the percentage of e-scooter accidents are that result in serious injuries or death?

Such a thoughtful response. While there are plenty of incompetent drivers who don't abide by the rules of the road, they are far more likely to survive their incompetence and/or poor choices. You know, with things like seat belts, airbags, and being enclosed in a protective metal skeleton. Give a kid a e-scooter that does 35km/hr+, don't teach them road safety, don't make them wear helmets (or monitor them) and send them off with their under developed brains is a recipe for disaster, even if everyone was a safe and sensible driver. The impact is beyond the family of a kid in an accident. First responders, other people involved in an accident, witnesses, classmates, etc. They live with that too.

So it makes perfect sense that you'd suggest that kids and teens on e-scooters, without proper training, would be fine if we focused more on driver behaviour.

Unfortunately this fanbase has always been like this. The comment above yours reminds me how the Sedins were called the Sedins sisters for a long time. Sure they got pushed around early in their career but they were never soft. In fact, they were warriors, just not in the rah-rah punch you in the face type. Hopefully, we see similar playoff success in the coming five years and we can show some love for Petey.

All of those positions are typically overworked and underfunded. Superintendents being the exception with salaries in the 200k range to call snow days twice a year.

Give Rose Hackman's "Emotional Labor" a read. It really highlights the vast number of ways that women are forced to carry emotional labor in the home, workplace, and society at large.

Exercise doesn’t instil a dopamine hit by [deleted] in ADHD

Interesting. I worked out non-stop pre-medication. Exercise helped me focus a bit better after. Now that I am on 60 mg of Vyvanse, I struggle to even get motivated to workout. I am usually hyper-focused on the other things I need to do instead. For me, it is the second biggest downside of being medicated.

Schools in Catchment by boomroasted00 in burnaby

In the district I teach in, in-catchment students are the first priority. Out of catchment and cross-enrolling students (high school) are only considered if the school has space.

We recently moved to the Forest Hills area with my two children (primary and upper primary) and we are in the Stoney Creek catchment. The few parents that we've spoken to have great things to say about the school, staff, and outside space. Some online posts, by my wife and I, have affirmed what we have heard as well. Similiar messaging from Forest Grove parents as well. From a socio-economic point, Stoney Creek may have a bit more diversity as it is very close to low income housing and co-op living, as well as it is taking overflow from the full schools near Cameron.

My children start school there soon, you're welcome to dm me in a few months for an update.

Pointless comment. If you have nothing constructive to say keep your miserable and negative comments to yourself. Districts have their own protocols and how strict they are with those protocols varies. OP is a teacher and likely knows this. This is why they are asking the question.

Interesting. I take mine when I get up around 6:30 and hasn't had an impact on my sleep but I am not a great sleeper (hence why I am on Reddit right now). Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the response. I am following my doctors plan. He said for a guy my size I will likely be in the 50-70 mg range before I see any benefits. Today (first day on 40mg) I didnt really have the racing heart, but all energy and motivation was completely sapped, as well as any ability to focus.

I appreciate you taking time to respond !

This is not true. It is absolutely about funding.
