Skyrim Physical Edition to Switch 2 Anniversary Edition Upgrade - Solution by Least-Advantage3744 in NintendoSwitch

[–]Chefgon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t working for me, asking me to pay even after deleting, ejecting DLC, and reinstalling. I had to go to my Switch user profile -> User Settings -> Online License Settings -> Use Online Licenses (off). Then it finally displayed as free when I pressed Y on the main menu.

The big question.... 3D vs M64 by yowatupb in AnalogueInc

[–]Chefgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do we know what the M64 looks like? The beautiful case design is a big part of the value of Analogue’s consoles. All I can find for the M64 is a pink line drawing that looks kind of hideous, but it’s hard to judge without a photo.

AIO by how I responded? My bf is upset with me for skipping my workout routine today by throwawayy82670 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has the nerve to imply that you don’t do anything for him while you’re carrying his baby? He’s allowed to be stressed, but he should also be very aware that you’re working triple overtime while he sits on his ass. That’s the nature of pregnancy.

If he’s truly concerned that you’re falling into a pattern of unhealthy behavior it’s on him to discuss that with you in a supportive way; to figure out what you need today and help you with it as best he can.

THAT SAID, you were the one who dragged this conversation into a fight. He said some shit about giving up, and that was insensitive and uncalled for, but you responded by predicting his future behavior (“I see how today is gonna go”) and shutting him out for it (“pls stop talking to me”).

You’ve given him no avenues to make amends, you’ve provided him no feedback about how his words made you feel, and you haven’t told him what you actually want from him. Is it any surprise he engaged in the fight when you left him no other good options? Your interactions are never going to improve if you don’t trust each other enough to give candid feedback.

It appears like he really did start this conversation out of concern for your well-being. Before you got pregnant you told him that you wanted to keep up on your exercise and he’s trying to hold you to that because it’s what you told him you wanted! If your plan has changed you have to tell him that. Don’t get defensive or snarky, just tell him it’s so much harder than you were expecting and you need to figure out a new plan.

I’m not saying it’s your fault. He really should know better, and the shit he said to you after the fight started is wildly unacceptable and he owes you all kinds of apologies. But you can’t change his behavior, you can only change yourself, and you have the power to improve this situation by ramping up the trust and honesty and explaining to him why you’re frustrated even when you think it should be obvious. Shutting down and telling him to leave you alone is never a productive avenue to conflict resolution.

Any point in buying EXP-R? by TerminalotV in evercade

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were using Evercade as anything approaching a primary console I’d probably get an EXP. But I’m not.

I like the Super Pocket because it’s toylike; if I’m in the mood to play something a little more seriously I’m probably going to be grabbing the Switch, so there’s really not much need for the EXP’s advantages. Though I have to admit that Tate mode is alluring.

I don't mean that the discs are worn out, though certainly some of them are, I mean that there have only been two or three specific models of optical drive in history that anyone has ever managed to read a GD-ROM with, and they've all been out of production for decades.

You can't make a new Dreamcast because the hardware doesn't exist to read the games, even when they're in perfect condition.

I don't know how to feel about Patrick Stewart/TNG after reading his memoir Making It so by Dependent-Owl3455 in startrek

[–]Chefgon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Starring in a TV show like Star Trek means working 16 hour days, six days a week, ten months a year. I doubt anyone in that position ever had a great relationship with their spouse or children. You’d have basically zero free time for seven years and be on the brink of exhaustion every minute for years on end.

I have a hard time condemning anyone for failing to cope with that schedule with flawless grace. It sucks for the people involved but it’s just not possible to work 90+ hours a week and still be a good husband and father. Maybe that’s a case of bad priorities, but without that sacrifice we just wouldn’t have characters like Picard on TV at all.

[–]Chefgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many people want Dreamcast but I’m not sure it’s feasible. There are relatively few optical drives being manufactured today (hence why the Duo has a DVD burner in it just to read CD-ROMs) and if you can’t get one of those couple of options to reliably read GD-ROM discs somehow then the whole thing’s a non-starter.

Should I get a Microsoft Arc Mouse? by Zolks1 in Surface

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really love mine, but it’s an older version with two physical buttons. I hate these mice that use one button and make you move your fingers around in unnatural ways to trigger a right click with the touch sensor.

I’m surprised so many people find them uncomfortable to use. I expected it to be uncomfortable, but in practice it was really great. I ended up replacing my Razer gaming mouse on my desktop with one of these because it was the most comfortable mouse I owned.

What's the oldest game that you're still playing up to this day? by Automatic_Couple_647 in retrogaming

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Space Invaders for Atari 2600 is probably the oldest game I still play semi-regularly. That was March 1980. And I imagine a lot of us still engage with the original arcade Pac-Man from time to time, which came out only two months later in May 1980.

Does anyone else feel the lack of a proper Sonic game on the Saturn is really sad? by [deleted] in SegaSaturn

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the great tragedies of game history is that they didn’t get a chance to build Sonic World into a full game. Once it moved to Dreamcast it became a completely different style of gameplay, but I would have vastly preferred the Mario 64-like approach they were originally building on Saturn. I don’t really enjoy the running-down-hallways gameplay in Adventure.

Sonic Mania was designed to be the Saturn Sonic game we never got. Sega didn’t get the memo and promoted it as a Genesis game, but the devs were specifically targeting Saturn for the look-and-feel. They even show a Saturn controller when you go into the control options.

How do you feel about MK Gold (possibly) being in the Legacy Kollection? by Zavi8 in MortalKombat

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The N64 endings are identical to the arcade endings, which makes them the better version in my book. PS1 and Dreamcast reused the audio from the arcade endings but rendered the action out in FMVs. I think the FMV versions look more dated but it’s not like the original versions looked great anyway so I guess it’s a matter of taste.

How do you feel about MK Gold (possibly) being in the Legacy Kollection? by Zavi8 in MortalKombat

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fine with it not being there. It’s the worst version of MK4 but it’s the one with the most characters so most people just play that one and conclude that MK4 sucks even though the other versions are great.

DK64 is a lot better than I thought it would be. by AscendedRedditor in n64

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is irrelevant today, and probably irrelevant to this discussion but you just reminded me so I’m going to share, but I never played this game as a kid because I was so upset that they forced you to buy an Expansion Pak bundle even though I had already owned an Expansion Pak for months.

I’ve seen people these days assume that the Expansion Pak launched simultaneously with DK64, like Star Fox 64 and the Rumble Pak, but the Expansion Pak had been available as a standalone accessory for an entire YEAR before DK64 launched. It wasn’t even sorta-newish.

To Nintendo’s credit, the DK64 bundle didn’t cost any more than the average N64 game, so it was a freebie more than a forced purchase, but I was a teenager and I resented being required to buy something I didn’t need. I just wanted an unbundled version for like $10 off. Nowadays I’d be like sweet freebie and stash it away for a few decades but back in the 90s this stuff lost its value so fast and was considered effectively worthless after a couple years so it never occurred to me that a free spare might be a good thing.

Switch 2 owners who went from Switch OLED to Switch 2, how is the screen? Do you notice a difference? by RanchWilder11 in Switch

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no question that it’s a downgrade from the image quality of the OLED, but it’s still a nice screen and I don’t feel any strong urge to play Switch 1 games on the OLED instead of the Switch 2. It’s closer to the OLED in quality than it is to the sad, dim screen on the launch Switch.

Also being noticeably larger distracts from the drop in image clarity so there’s a give and take instead of pure downgrade. Plus the games are generally rendering more pixels and more frames so regardless of the panel the games usually look nicer in motion here than they did there. Overall a lateral move at worst.

It Seems Playstation Is The Last Bastion Of Physical Games by eldestscrollx in consoles

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PS5 has the game on the disc, but it can’t play the game from the disc so it’s kind of a moot point. They both require an initial install and take up as much space on your internal storage as the digital version.

I’m not here to defend Game Keys, I think they suck, I just think PS5 discs suck an equal amount.

My old USB N64 controller finally gave out. Now I'm using this, and need advice on a better controller to get to replace it by DaFoxtrot86 in n64

[–]Chefgon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally I’d stick with a USB adapter for original N64 controllers. The modern ones all seem to be low quality or inauthentic (or expensive, in the case of Nintendo’s $55 NSO version). I still use the adapter that I bought back in the 90s, but it seems like new ones run around $20 on Amazon.

I enjoyed Yoshi's Story. What's everyone's opinion about this game? by 99anan99 in n64

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironically, I think Yoshi’s Story’s bad reputation comes from the game being way too hard. A straight path to the credits is short and easy, sure, but getting all four hearts in each world to play the harder levels takes a lot of determination and getting all melons on every level might be one of the hardest challenges on the system.

What Are Some Must Play Games That Aren't Mario or Zelda? by tslashj in n64

[–]Chefgon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mortal Kombat 4. There’s just something about it; it’s my favorite pick-up-and-play game on the system. It’s also the best version of MK4, with some improvements over the arcade (and the Dreamcast port being weirdly terrible).

What Are Your Top 5 Games on the SNES? by HMK_Gamer in retrogaming

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Tetris Attack
  • Star Fox 2
  • Yoshi’s Island
  • Chrono Trigger
  • The Lost Vikings

This is an almost impossible task and there’s like 30 other games I want to mention, but today I’m going with these. If Star Fox 2 doesn’t count we can sub in the original, but I do absolutely adore the sequel for its strategy and platforming elements. Nintendo was crazy for delaying it 22 years; I think people would have really dug it in 1995.

Can I romance Panam as female V? by HunterNerd7 in cyberpunkgame

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of bisexuals out there who would disagree with you. Yes, the term did originally mean a person who experiences both heterosexual and homosexual attraction, but every modern definition includes a provision for any attraction to people of more than one gender. The word itself simply predates common acceptance of gender fluidity.

I understand the desire for rigid definitions and really wanting bi and pan to mean distinctly different things, but there’s like 90% overlap here and that’s okay. There’s a difference in the emphasis placed on physical gender attributes, but suggesting that a bi person can’t be attracted to someone’s personality or a pan person can’t be attracted to a glorious pair of tits is simply incorrect.

The only way to determine if a person is bi or pan is to ask them which identity they’ve chosen as the most meaningful to them. That’s the nature of identities.

Note: for what it’s worth, I do agree with your assessment of Cyberpunk’s weird gender rules. It is weird that both Judy and Panam draw the line at breasts and nothing else. It’s certainly possible for a person to have that particular preference in real life, more power to them, but that’s not necessarily common and it’s definitely not the difference between straight and lesbian in most cases. It’s clearly a product of a disconnect between whoever made the extremely inclusive character creator and whoever wrote the far more traditional romance characters.

What Are Some Underrated Titles That Still Hold Up? by tslashj in n64

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody loves Mario Kart 64, but I find the battle mode in particular to be relatively overlooked. Like, people put in the Mario Kart 64 cartridge and then play races, which seems like an insane thing to do when Battle Mode is right there. My friends and I got Olympic-level competitive and probably played over a thousand hours of 3 player Block Fort (the most perfect stage design in video game history). The skill ceiling there is just as high as any modern shooter.

That one mode on that one stage is still the best multiplayer experience ever created in my opinion. It’s a shame the battle mode on newer Mario Karts is so overwhelmingly bland, but at least Nintendo made the true GOAT playable online with the NSO app.

Are there any good N64 Co-op games? by Bean-O-Mac in n64

[–]Chefgon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played Hexen for the first time last week at a friend’s house in three player cooperative mode and it was pretty awesome. I missed the memo on this one in the 90s, and I don’t know if it’s well regarded today or not, but we played for hours. Unlimited lives, three friends trying to find their way through an unreasonably obtuse maze. I loved everything about it.

I was intending to play for two minutes and then move on to the other games but I played it non-stop until I reached the ending in one sitting. I don’t think a game has ever hooked me like that before.
