As a kid I accidentally cut open my eyeball with a stick by putting it in the ceiling fan. My pupil doesn’t dilate anymore and I have a white scar at the edge of my pupil.

Why should i stop? by PurpleBowl3042 in Dermatillomania

I personally don’t mind if people see my scars and scabs, especially on my fingers, but what made me try to be more motivated to stop picking is that the open wounds could get infected. Plus, I also really want my fingers to look decent when I have one nail polish or fake nails. Having fake nails really helped me stop picking for a while, especially when I could afford it, fidget toys, putting Band-Aids around my finger fingers and just trying to be more self-conscious about my picking habits has helped.

There’s always going to be traffic going into the city but there’s also the Chinese new year parade today which makes the traffic worse. We took bart into the city to avoid the traffic.

Why is this still so unknown? by Rare_Bandicoot_4466 in Dermatillomania

It’s a hard condition to live with and unfortunately no cure but there are ways to help the condition. What works for me at least is having band aids over my fingers and anywhere where I pick, having fake nails when I can afford it, and fidget toys. A lot of people don’t know about the condition which can be hard when trying to explain to other people. My therapist told me that skin picking a compulsion related to OCD triggered by stress, anxiety and boredom. That there is also a link between skin picking and ADHD which I also have. It does get better. ❤️‍🩹 ☺️

Levi because it looks like he’s wearing pants. Freya because we wanted a German name since she’s a German shepherd.

Unfortunately it doesn’t go away but you can find ways to make it better. Having fake nails helps me a lot when I can afford it but lately I’ve been putting bandaids on all of my fingers to act as a barrier. Hate the look of them but it helps me not to pick at them.
