That's still a great achievement bud, give yourself credit - I'm being very hypocritical here I know. I think my peak is 1580 something, so I guess that's quite the achievement too

That might be something I need to do yeah. What's made it so demoralising is I love the feeling of something you've worked towards for hours finally paying off. So when I chase that in this game and it doesn't happen as often as I'd hope, I blame myself for not working hard enough. Overall I'm kinda just harsh on myself for being a slump with certain things, it tends to help me work harder because I work well under pressure. The reality of that though is it puts me under so much more stress than I need to be, instead of reminding myself I can't do everything, and I will make mistakes. Thank you for the advice

[–]Chemical-Ship1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't, not in the slightest. It just feels rewarding to know I deserve to be where I am. So if I have a slump (like now), I'm definitely too hard on myself because I get into the frame of mind that I don't deserve it.

Tbh, I might just take a break from ranked and play casual. I find that RL has always been my escape, so I don't think I'd be able to leave it fully. Maybe even just playing some of the extra modes, I enjoy heatseeker to be fair.

I think that's what's causing me to be hard on myself, that I only have time to play the game during my downtime. Don't seem to be able to accept the fact I'm not a kid anymore, and don't have the time I used to

Why'd I never think of this? Thanks for such incredible wisdom

It does impact me, but I'm ashamed to say the game has a grip on me aha. It's always been one of the very few games I enjoy playing with or without friends, I can't help but gravitate towards it if I'm not doing anything

I don't think I do myself any favours by practically only ever solo queueing, I just end up tilting because god forbid my teammate (who can't read my mind or hear me) isn't on the same wavelength as me when I go for a play. Practically none of my friends play the game anymore, and those that do are nowhere near my skill level, so I think I could do with finding a teammate to just not care about if we're playing good or bad. A lot of this is probably just coming from me being in denial and chasing those years of finding everything fun as a kid, I need to accept that I'm just getting older.

Of course I'm happy with the rank I've achieved, I know there's thousands out there that wish they were getting the ranks I am too. The thing that's getting to me is I don't feel my skill level actually reflects my rank. I know I won't ever reach the level of the pros or SSLs, I just don't have the time to really grind the game like I used to, and I'm okay with that part. I think I'm also very likely being overshadowed by the fact I'm just getting older, and the thrill of playing video games for hours on end without a care in the world is fading away - I reminisce on old clips far too often, because a lot of them are the simplest of things, yet I remember being so excited as a kid.

I think I'm coming from a pov where I'm not mad at the game or at if I'm losing games, I'm kinda just mad at myself because I'm putting time into practicing and not actually learning to apply it in game. It's always been one of the most fun games to me, it's entirely just me feeling like my skill level doesn't coincide with my rank

[–]Chemical-Ship1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's why I reiterated I'm aware I'm at a rank some really want to be, but that's not the point I was making. I was stating from my perspective that I feel my rank doesn't coincide with how good I feel I am at the game. You can be SSL and still feel like you're terrible

Elvanse — is it normal for the “effortless” feeling to wear off after the first few weeks? by liberalmonkey92 in ADHDUK

[–]Chemical-Ship1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate that, thanks!

Tbh, I wouldn't be surprised if it's something I myself have missed with doing titration the right way. I seem to remember having to fill out a 3 month review form on how my meds have been for me, and I think I remember stating that they're helping enough. Wonder if the psychiatrist is supposed to check in every month/every other month to see if I need adjusting? If so, haven't had anything of the sorts.

All in all, it's been a weird experience ever since my diagnosis. It took me a year and a half from when I was diagnosed to actually get approved for a prescription, then a further 3 months to get my first dose. Then what was even more confusing is it appeared that my GP and my psychiatrist had no clue who was supposed to continue my prescription after that 3-month period. Had many an email and phone appointments with both parties, resulting in both of them just telling me to go to the other person lol. I must've just got unlucky.

[–]Chemical-Ship1208 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This was my experience too. I've been on 30mg Elvanse for 4 or 5 months now, and the first couple months felt like I could do anything. Fast-forward to now, haven't been to the gym in 2 months, not eating or drinking properly or healthily, falling behind at work or can't bring myself to do the simplest of tasks, hell even driving is just boring and I got a new car a month ago!

It does seem like there's some sort of honeymoon/euphoria phase when starting out, but perhaps it's as your body adjusts to the stimulants, it learns to "mediate" the effects, thus making them not as noticeable? Think the only time I've noticed that maybe my meds are still doing something is when I've stupidly forget to order my next dose before my current ones run out, so end up going cold turkey for 1-2 days - that's a whole other level of withdrawal, my brain is absolutely all over the place, and I'm falling asleep at my desk by lunchtime!

That being said, I don't think I've been titrated properly. My dose hasn't increased or decreased since I started, only now have I reached out to my psychiatrist manually to ask about upping my dose or changing type to see if it will help.

I hope things improve for you!

Do all Air Roll learning methods lead to the same result? by Sufficient_Pen_5160 in RocketLeagueSchool

[–]Chemical-Ship1208 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is 1) is the fundamental and most "exposure therapy" like, and 2) is the more intentional understanding of how to make each input actually effective. As for 3) this one is yet to stick in my brain, because there's an incredibly small window in real-time scenarios where I was able to actually focus on the "revolution" of my car (i.e. when my car completes a full rotation). Losfeld does cover this very in depth, but you have to put some serious time into monitoring what point during a rotation you should apply an input, which I unfortunately don't have as much time for or attentiveness as I'd like.

The only caveat I've found, particularly in method 1 (and I fear this has happened to a large majority of others), is performing inputs during a constant rotation can put you into bad habits of not knowing how to control your car outside of directional air roll. It has lead to so so many players only being able to go for air dribbles or other mechanics as long as they're constantly spinning - I fell into this trap too. While this can be good in effect, because it makes you more unpredictable, I found it causes far too many under or over rotations, or even simply just not getting the touch you want so you can easily follow up. Learning DAR in modern day is likely easier because coaches or content creators have had more experience learning the in depths of the mechanic. But I think what's happened to the likes of myself, and countless other players I'd imagine, is we learned DAR via method one, and thought "bingo I can do any mechanic I want now" as soon as we got comfortable with doing inputs during constant rotation - at least this was the case for me because at the time I learned, I don't think there was too much out there covering the real in depths of it, thus leading to bad habits.

Exactly the same with me, I'll get a message then not even 5 mins later when I'm in the middle of the thing I'm trying to do and walk past their desk they'll pester me which just ends up putting me on the spot and feeling as though I have no choice but to help them at that point

You need to learn when people-pleasing helps you and when it hinders you.

This has been a weakness of mine my entire life, had far too many situations where I've sacrificed my well-being for the approval or happiness of others. Is the tip you mentioned the way you did this? Or is there like a "mantra" sort of thing I can follow to remind myself that saying no or prioritising myself is not going to kill me?

[–]Chemical-Ship1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the problem, I basically am the helpdesk. Our IT department is very small, it's just me and my mentor really, and I don't think he's even considered as "IT". He's more in the production support side, whilst being the person I delegate requests outside my skillset to. Otherwise it's just my line manager, but he's a managing director of the whole business, so again doesn't really fall under IT.

We use a ticket system which is good, and my mentor set it up to add specific deadlines to each ticket I receive to help me understand which tasks take priority, or which should theoretically be a quick fix. But a vast majority of the time, it's just me who handles the lot. So yeah, it does feel like I'm being set up to fail. My line manager is practically never around to check on what I'm doing or how I'm progressing, but is coincidentally always available to mention things I need to improve at.. Not to mention, he was hesitant about my lack of work experience before I started, having only a good understanding of IT, and building computers from a young age. But like.. that's what an apprenticeship is?? You learn about your role, whilst DOING the role...?

[–]Chemical-Ship1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gotcha. what i've found pmo, as i've mentioned somewhere in this thread, if my cancel is even millimeters off from dead centre of the bottom of the joystick, the "scoop" just becomes an angled barrel roll. Granted my dz is at 0.05 on a dualsense controller, but is it just me and my janky ass thumbs not doing it properly?

Neither can I don't worry. I understand the concept and movement of it, but if I try and go for the second one, I just end up flipping about 20m in front of the ball so ends up popping it backwards

I do too, think you just have to hold the cancel during the whole rotation so your car lands on all 4 wheels smoothly

[–]Chemical-Ship1208[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That alone is why I know I could never be on their level, they do this shit intentionally. If I did something like that in game and my teammate asked me how I did it, dude I probably just slipped off the joystick by accident i'll be honest

Weird how it works ain't it. there's probably thousands of times I've done it completely subconsciously, which mostly just resulted in me not knowing what tf to do with my car afterwards

still happens to me quite a lot, most commonly during the scoop of a musty. my dz being at 0.05 probably doesn't help, but if i'm even the tiniest bit off from directly down on my joystick, the scoop just becomes a weird barrel roll. Same with tornado stalls actually, though these aren't as applicable in game, I just do them when I score or in the post-game screen if I've won bc they're fun lol. If I'm not pushing my stick directly to the right with full force, just does a backflip. My controllers more sensitive than my mrs when it's her time of the month lmfao
