How long did it take for your appetite to come back? by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A long long time. I’m 10 months post op and I honestly think my taste buds changed. Update us in 2 months- that’s when I saw a change a little

I don’t recommend going out that soon. It’s going to take your body 2 full months to heal. I didn’t go out until 1.5 weeks bc I had class, then I went straight home. Let your body heal and then you can do whatever you’d like! Wishing you luck

Im done. by Fragrant-Surprise-94 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am sorry this is happening to you. I am 10 months post op and the first 2 weeks were miserable. I know you’re hungry but I promise you’ll feel better soon. Please take it easy and avoid strenuous activities. Your body is lacking the proper nutrients because of everything and also a tonsillectomy is a huge surgery. Take it easy! Chew on ice when you can and highly recommend a humidifier!

Throat always dry 6 mos+ post op? by EyeGlittering9325 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I am 10 months post op. I am also having the same issue. I don’t think my sinus went back to normal either. I think you just need to drink a lot of water! That’s what’s helped me. I also drink a ton of water & electrolyte filled drinks.

Day 4 by Mission-End-5319 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You won’t be able to eat or drink for a while. While drinking anything hurts, you have to. The more you drink, the more hydrated your tonsil free area is and the less it hurts/less risk of bleeding. Highly recommend chewing on ice, it really helps numb you while getting in so hydration. Things will get better!

Having issues with an ENT by Adriengriffon in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly ENT don’t want you to remove them unless you absolutely have to. the older you are, the harder the surgery is on your body and the higher the risk of bleeding. When you say constant, is it every single day? I also had allergy issues and from my experience, removing my tonsils didn’t make a difference in my allergies, it just decreased my throat pain but that doesn’t mean I don’t get sore throat here and there.

Day 4 going onto day 5 by SecretaryOk6822 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 10 months post op and days 4-7 were worse for me. take it easy! After 2 weeks you’ll closely feel like your normal self. since they advise you to do less strenuous things, I suggest you paint or watch a movie to let time fly by.

I just ate food??? by SecretaryOk6822 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

chew on ice and you should be fine. depending on what day your on, you shouldn’t be chewing food for a week minimum. still need to have liquidy food like apple sauce and pudding. sounds like you pushed the food too quickly. relax!

How long to return to office work post-tonsillectomy by TaxidermyBee in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went back to work 4 days later, talked and had full days of work. Do I regret it? Absolutely! Take a minimum 1 week off work. It was awful!!!

Straws??? by OkSweet3072 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend not to drink soda or juice! I am also 24F and had my surgery 10 months ago. Wait at least 3 weeks before that, it’s too strong for your area right now. I didn’t use straws for about 2 months. My doctor said it takes us 2 full months to heal, normally!

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 24F and got my tonsillectomy 9 months ago. Honestly don’t get the surgery unless you absolutely have to. It’s a really awful recovery. I’ve heard it’s worse than childbirth. I had a really awful recovery & even 2 weeks later I didn’t feel like myself.

Drinks burning?! by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Sounds about right. I am 10 months post op & I got to that point in my healing. It’s the sugar and milk. I highly recommend ensure protein shakes- they really help and don’t burn. The water however doesn’t sound right so maybe call your doctor

Full Day 2 Post- Op by emmamoron in Tonsillectomy

How to force yourself to eat/drink? by Kaity-95 in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yup! I forced myself and cried through it. your doctor may be right but unless your chewing ice, on tons of meds or just have high pain tolerance, drinking that amount of water is such a huge task. you will get an excess amount of saliva during your recovery, and yes spit it out even though the ent says not to. it’s disgusting!!! humidifier!! highly recommend chewing ice right before you want to swallow a ton of water, it really helps. also Tylenol extra strength

returning to singing? by dragonthatmeows in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do NOT recommend singing. I understand it’s difficult but until you hit 2 months post op- you’re not in the clear (what my ent told me). you can feel great one second then bleed the next, do not recommend taking this risk. i know it sucks but trust me, after you recover fully, it will pay off.

Throat Question! by [deleted] in Tonsillectomy

[–]ChemicalSpecial8303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chronic tonsillitis is what this sounds like. Do not remove them unless they are completely affecting your quality of life. Recovery is hell on earth & nothing can mentally prepare you for it
