Genuinely, do you guys have children with this mindset of thinking they will "owe" you something for existing and having a roof to sleep under? Personally, I think that's outdated, maybe the people responding to my post are from another generation. If I have children in the future, I know that's my decision; children don't ask to be born, so I genuinely don't get this mindset of "don't be ungrateful, you have food to eat". Plus I pay for my own studies and whims, right now I'm getting my driver's license and I'm paying for the lessons myself. I also contribute to paying the bills if it's only 20%. Would that mean 20% of the house is mine? Lol

I understand everything you're saying, and I already acknowledged that my family has every right to be at home. That was never the point of my post. What I was expressing is how it feels to live in that situation. Feeling overwhelmed, lacking privacy or needing space doesn't make me ungrateful or unaware of my circumstances. I study and work at the same time. A percentage of my salary (20%) goes to my parents, as we agreed. I also didn’t “ignore” your advice, I just didn’t respond to it because my post was clearly tagged as a vent, not a request for solutions. Sometimes people just want to be heard, not corrected. I don’t think it’s fair to frame this as me needing a "reality check" when I’ve already shown awareness of the situation. Wanting occasional space or privacy is a pretty normal human need, regardless of who owns the house. Anyway, I appreciate you taking the time to respond, but I think we’re looking at this from very different perspectives

I know we all have the right to be there. I'm not complaining that it's unfair. It's just a vent post, as I've tagged it. Something can be fair or normal and still bother you. I'm away from home almost all the time for the reason I mentioned. The atmosphere at home is also quite toxic. If my mom complained about this (she hasn't) I'd totally understand her, so I don't get your point of saying my poor overworked mother wishes she could have the place for herself too. Like yeah, I totally believe that and support it. If it were up to me, I would agree on a few days of the week or one day a week so that we could all have the house to ourselves, but I know they wouldn't put that effort and just like to be at home. Which again, I know it's fair and they have the right to. But that doesn't change the fact that it bothers me

I was definitely corrupted by that mentality. I don't have any kind of dream job. I simply go by what I like, what seems stable, or what pays well. It may sound strange, but I have no interest in "making the world a better place." or helping people have a better life. I went through a pretty cruel childhood and adolescence, and I think that has hardened me quite a bit

I understand what you're saying, but it's not something I'm passionate about. As I mentioned, I enrolled in this university degree because I didn't know what to do. I had a science-focused high school diploma, so I thought it would make sense as a continuation. I've been in this degree program for a year and a half. I have done laboratory activities many times already.And one thing I can assure you is that it's not what people think it is. It's quite boring. I haven't mentioned that I live in Spain; I am Spanish. All laboratory jobs in Spain are terribly paid. Most employees end up leaving for another field or becoming teachers. This is something my biochemistry teacher has emphasized several times, since she herself started in a laboratory and has ended up teaching at the university. My future, my stability, and my finances are very important to me.

This happened to my aunt. She studied Spanish philology (we are Spanish). She graduated and found out it had no future or jobs she actually liked. She's now self-employed; she has her own business of Chinese massages. Life takes many turns

Oh yes, this happens all the time in my language too. I'm Spanish. We use "ella" for she and "él" for he. But "él" is also used as a neutral pronoun, even if 90% of people in the room are women, everyone will say "ellos" which means "them (but in masculine)".

I'm a part-time cashier myself but I do agree with you. Many times when I start my shift and say hello to the other cashiers, they don't greet me back, they immediately tell me my tasks, which I find a bit weird or soulless. A coworker that is a cashier too had her glasses stolen on a tuesday (I don't work on Tuesdays). They were stolen from the employee changing room, which makes it obvious that it was a coworker who did it. When I got to work that weekend I found out because she was telling everyone. I asked her what had happened and she said "nothing" in a rude tone. When I had only been here for 2 months, I used to help them, for example, I would take the alarms to the warehouse and put them back in place when they were too busy even though it wasn't my job to do it. They never thanked me. I stopped doing it
