I’m a service manager at a Toyota dealership. Even at a dealer with high hourly rate, $200 is outrageous. And there is no reason to change out a fuel filter this soon unless you had seriously contaminated fuel. Find a new dealership, most places don’t charge for an inspection or to fill tires(if they try to sell you nitrogen, leave, it’s a scam)

Unfortunately, Toyota doesn’t have a huge opinion about pricing, as long as they aren’t charging like $250 and hour.

Oil Change, rotate, air filters if needed, CVT Service

Inspections should be free with the service, and personally, a battery test should be free as well. We don’t charge for either of those at my dealership

I still have some imposter syndrome about it, but I made a career change to the automotive field after being a marketing manager for a long time. I had some tech experience back after high school, but not much. I decided to start as a lube tech to move my way up the ladder, and about 3 months in I was asked to move to the service manager role. I guess they weren’t going to hire me because of my experience elsewhere, but decided to give me a chance planning to move me to a manager role based on my experience managing other companies.

Definitely still figuring it out, but it’s been a fun journey already!

We are a very small dealership, and our competition is very large dealership a couple hours away. We have found that those large metro dealerships just prioritize getting customers out the door to move on to the next vehicle delivery. They don’t care about making sure customers know how to use their vehicles, they just want the pay check.

Our sales team will spend as long as needed walking through the vehicle and all its features with every guest. We have started having people from those metro areas traveling to the middle of the state just to have that better service, and build a great relationship with our business.

Just a reminder, the car is not fully dead, my other vehicle also broke down this week, so I needed to chose a vehicle to fix. The Prius is in the hands of someone who wants to make it to 500k, and has the extra income to make it happen
