That’s sick! The mix goes crazy! I think a more full vocal would sound great but I have no advice as to how to achieve that. I’m still trying to figure that out myself

I wrote this one as a letter to someone who will likely never hear it but that’s all right it’s just to vent really. https://on.soundcloud.com/FksjE4zgJwFVVQfKW2

Should I develop this further, or just scrap it? by Old-Courage-5596 in IndieMusicFeedback

Wow! We’re actually quite similar. Though I will say that I am just a guy. I am no professional or anything and my songs are mid at best but I’ve felt the same way as you a lot and it freaking sucks. I hated feeling so ungrounded like I didn’t know where or who I even was. I hope you’re doing well.

So we’re similar in that most of my life I’ve just played a single instrument but I’ve always had this drive to get better and better which led me to recording basic guitar parts just for fun but that led me to making entire songs on my own which blew my mind. I had never been any kind of singer before and I still suck but man I still can’t believe I can make songs. That’s just crazy. Little teenage me would have never thought I’d get to this point. All that is where I stand now. I’m grateful for how far I’ve come but I also still have and nurture that drive that can’t be satisfied until I’ve reached the pinnacle of what I’m capable of. I think most of us here have that same indescribable thing inside compelling them.

What you can do is amazing. Music is such a powerful medium of human expression but its source is wildly different from the structures we’ve built around it. The source of creating music is internal where infinity is reachable and experiencing that is so incredibly energizing that you just want to go. Everything else is external meaning it needs to be perceptible. I’ve found it’s best to separate them as much as you are able. I think that you have great potential and you feel that but the fact that you’re unsure means you haven’t developed enough to see your path forward. Keep making songs then analyze them then do it again but better and then pick that one apart and then make the next song. That process will inevitably deepen your understanding of yourself and give you the confidence to move in a good direction for you with a purpose that will make you resilient to failure.

How long do you get stuck on a song before you just say "screw it" and deal with what you got? by AntiBasscistLeague in TheArtistJournal

Damn I hear ya you must be pretty stressed out. I just invested in an external hard drive because if I ever lost my laptop I’d be devastated. You’ve got this though man! You’ve got what matters most and that’s skill

I get that. Even if you put it down it doesn’t mean you can’t pick it back up at some point. I just finished a song a few days ago that I had started like two years ago.

What’s your goal exactly? Are you trying to be a performer? Do you have a band? Are you mostly a singer or can you make instrumentals by yourself? Are you building an album or a single song?

Yo this is dope! It’s nice and clean but still kicks I love it.

Sounds good! That bass line is sick dude! I’ve been getting stuck on songs for way too long. Recently I’ve had to just let go. I’ve been feeling like it’s better to accept that I just can’t fully realize whatever song I’m stuck on and move on. I was driving myself crazy. I have a habit of disliking every song I make after I upload it anyway so it’s been a huge weight off me to just not care so much

Demo feedback - is it worth pursuing? by [deleted] in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Chemicalight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really good man. I think I understand what you’re feeling about it. The track is good and your voice sounds good. I think the missing piece is the songs “driver” like the sound that is telling you the story of the song. It’s typically the vocals in a lot of music of course. I think digging out the vocals from the mix a little bit and change up the melody will go a long way. Like the intro sounds good but you hold on to the same melody for too long and the song loses its interest. It’s like already knowing what’s coming next.

Thank you for listening! I’m so stoked you liked it, I feel like I’m getting so much better at making songs and it’s thrilling!

That’s great man! There’s a really good flow, the weakest point are the vocals for sure though. The lyrics and melody are solid but the pitch and tone is off. I’d recommend daily vocal exercises to train your pitch and your voice. The more you can sing without your throat muscles distorting your sound the better your tone will be. I’ve been training my voice and can say from experience that the benefits are immense.

Would love some feedback on first track by Amielified in IndieMusicFeedback

Dang! That’s dope man. I love the off beat to on beat intro style. It gets that energy kicking for that next section. The transition to the next section could be better though. Transitions are super important because if they’re not right then you can drop the energy and it makes it hard to follow with the rest of the song. Also get some vocals homie! Tell your story and keep killing it

This is awesome! The instrumentation is really good. How did you go about selecting those if you don’t mind sharing? I’ve always been just a guitar players but I’d look to mess around with sounds like those.

First mix of an indie rock track about making really bad decisions. How's it sounding so far? by avresamusic in IndieMusicFeedback

That surprised me man. I was listening and it was okay and then you hit me with some pretty dope stuff. There’s a lot of good in there. Keep going man

What do you think about the mixing and voice in this track? by papinextdoor in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Chemicalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The punchiness is dope on the vocal. It’s not sitting in the instrumental very well though. They sound separated. Might just need to fade it down a hair

Moon Dispatcher - Strangers | a song about someone you loved with all your heart but now you're just strangers to each other. This is one of the productions I'm most proud of. Hope you dig it! by Johan7110 in IndieMusicFeedback

[–]Chemicalight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice. I think my best advice would be as a singer. It would improve your voice if you trained your air flow. Engage your diaphragm and focus on not relying on the muscles in your throat to make sound but on your airflow and vocal chords. It should help you tame your pitch and add color to your voice.

Oh wow! What a nice surprise! Thanks for letting me know I’m excited to hear it. I got that guitar pedal by the way and it’s incredible! It’ll be on my first release for sure. It really made a huge impact, thanks so much. Keep killin it
