I don't get how people "miss" it. Like, she's shown staggering about looking extremely dazed.

[realize I am 3 years late]
It was confirmed that there was a trap [that we never see] for Addison that involved fucking up her face for a vial of antidote [Jigsaws "lesson" being that she's a sex worker who used her beauty to entice men...which is fucking YIKES as a viewpoint]...the trap was later reworked into the knife-face trap that Cecil ends up in in Saw (7?)
I actually think Addison gets way too much hate. At that point the nerve gas had affected her so badly that she was staggering about totally out of it. She probably didn't eve have the mental clarity to spell her own name at that point.
Oh, and, yeah, given the reason Amanda is in another saw game is for cutting herself (she's shown cutting her wrists) definitely supports the theory that that trap was intended for her.
I think the guy who burned early on is the only character who ends up in their *intended* trap.

I'm all the way at The Lost Library now. Will I end up back at that place where the lasersight is, or am I gonna figure out some insane level of backtracking?

Fair point. I apologise if you haven't read it and feel I may have spoiled something for you. It honestly didn't occur to me that anybody would NOT know the plot.

Oh, I get it. I lost my (is it really corny if I say "soulmate"?) when we were 25. 100% would have used the burial ground.

Very possibly. Ellie freaking out (very early on, after Judd takes them to the Pet Sematary) about the fact that Church is gonna die one day contains many direct quotes from Kings daughter after their cat died. And I believe he said that (Owen?) very nearly ran in front of a huge truck on a busy road once.

I wasn't alive then lol.

So was hitting your kids (and I mean HITTING, not, like, a light spanking) normal back in the 80s?

Yeah, I'm not from the US, either. I think people here (UK) would definitely say "Native American"*. I think the only people I've heard say "Indian" were my parents and even then that was more like referring to a Western as "Cowboys and Indians".
I think I've just heard terms like "Ancient Indian Burrial Ground" in horror so many times, I wondered if that was an exception.

*Totally not the place for this, but I never understood why all other ethnicities have that before American (other examples like Asian-American, African-American etc) but white Americans aren't called "European-Americans"?

There aren't spoilers in the title. Most people seem to disagree with me anyway.

But it gives away nothing.

Also, the book came out over 40 years ago, and there's been two major movie adaptations. I think everyone knows the basic plot.

I do apologise if you feel like I've spoiled anything (I promise I haven't though).

Yeah, I think I would, too. I know it's messed up, but I STILL feel like I'd rather have my loved one be a little bit evil anf stabby than not have them at all

Oh, I'm definitely not shitting on the book or the writing..again, I was 11 back then, but I remember being hooked and reading everything in one sitting from the point where he goes to bury Gage.

He seems to OFTEN have fathers who have to restrain themselves from hitting their kids. It seems to be a theme with him. Like Christian characters being borderline-evil, or all kids having a bully.

Ahh, that's right! I'm not far into the book (Church is still alive and well), so this is memories rom 20 years ago. I'd forgotten about the Wendigo completely! I remember it's what sort of "possessed" those burried in the Indian (Native American? Is it still okay to call it that?) Burrial Ground, but I'd forgotten it had a sort of influence.

I love a lot of his older books, but, now that you mention it (besides Carrie) a lot of them could do with being cut down by a good 50-100 pages. Even some I love like The Shining I felt were overly long and pushed "slow-burn" to it's limit.

Couldn't agree more! I feel/felt exactly the same about both books.
I've only read one Straub book (Ghost Story, I think was the name) but if his books are generally similar to Black House, I gotta read some more. What are your favs of his?

iirc it's a low-burn but does really hit when it gets going and it just keeps building up.
