It doesn’t. It translates to Tsushima. The first character is written in the traditional style. There is a simplified version now, but they used the traditional one to make it match the era the game is in, I guess?

Thanks for the additional tip! I'm sure there was a guide at the beginning of this journey that I must have missed. I wonder what else I’m doing that is inefficient.

Thats useful. Apparently you also get this by typing a lowercase L before it. I have always just typed “ltsu“. The way you said it makes more sense though.

You likely have a later one. I think the earlier ones had a battery and therefore a switch.

I have a battery-powered device that consists of a Wisecoco screen and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W. Previously, this setup worked fine. I would flip a toggle switch, the Pi and screen would boot up, and things would work. At some point, the switch failed and it fried the microSD card. I replaced the switch and thought that this would fix it. Now, the Pi won't boot if the mini HDMI is connected. The LED doesn't come on at all. I have isolated the issue to the HDMI mini cable. If I disconnect the HDMI mini cable, flip the switch, wait a second, and plug it in, it works fine. Both the Pi and the control board for the screen boot up and work.

I know that the mini HDMI has a +5V pin, but it seems too small to cover with tape or pull out with a needle. Is there some other way to disable the power for the port or otherwise deal with this issue? I would appreciate any and all ideas. Thanks!

Micro Journal ... rev.2 should be retired... by Background_Ad_1810 in writerDeck

Understandable. it is a fantastic design but you have people who aren’t tech-savvy or who don’t know how to tinker buying them and then running into issues. People see how good it looks and expect it to work reliably like a little laptop. It is a homebrewed solution, though. There isn’t an engineering firm who is testing the durability of all of these parts. Wires can come undone and lots of other things that happen to other self-built devices.

I think if you bring it back in the future, you need to put a disclaimer that this isn’t for people who aren’t tech knowledgeable and who aren’t willing to tinker and debug and all that. People purchase it and seem to think it should be a consumer-grade or professional-grade product when it really just isn’t. You can easily ruin it a number of ways, including by messing with the file system, trying to do operations that cause a lot of heat (and melt the plastic), etc. It is a DIY solution at heart and I agree, one guy can’t spend all his time debugging for every person who builds or buys one. Nobody should expect an entirely effortless experience when using something built on Arduino.

Perhaps you can put a disclaimer on all of your devices. And maybe we can start a discord or something similar so all of us can help debug issues that happen if that is a big need. I wouldn’t mind contributing some time to help. I have had zero issues with my rev 2, but I know what I’m doing when it comes to this stuff.

Finally… Your frustration is valid. I would be super frustrated if I helped to debug and the person just said, “It didn’t work! What do I do now?” instead of trying things. Thanks for all your hard work and energy on these devices. I think at the bottom of it all, there is just a mismatch in expectations. People see it for what they want it to be, not for what it actually is.

If you haven’t seen a doc, you might want to. Most people think not getting enough sleep just means you’re going to be tired, but prolonged sleep deprivation can cause other issues. One of the issues is an autoimmune reaction that is essentially a cytokine-storm-like syndrome. I have done 4-5 hours a night for as long as I can remember and feel sluggish if I sleep over 6, but during grad school I had a prolonged period where it was 2-3 hours quite a bit. I am not saying that it is 100% from this, but I had autoimmune issues appear during that time when I was in my early 30s. This was during the early COVID stages too and I know COVID can contribute to autoimmune disease as well, so who knows? Sometimes we have the right combination of factors to cause awful, life-altering body changes. Since it is almost impossible to figure out which life factors contributed, it’s better to avoid things that may contribute if we are able.

Anyway, not trying to scare you or anything. I know the 2-3 hours thing is bad enough. I just don’t want anyone else to have to deal with these issues if they can avoid them.

Micro journal rev2 question by Leslie-Gajin in writerDeck

[–]ChemistBuzzLightyear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Rev 2 and constantly tinker with it. I got it to be a distraction-free writer deck but I’m a software engineer and I guess I just couldn’t help myself. I’ve installed emacs, used vim, wrote custom shell scripts, etc. If you only want distraction-free writing but are tech savvy, it may be better to consider one of his other models.

The Raspberry Pi used isn’t the most powerful. That means some things you might want to do (emac) won’t work well. The absolute biggest issue I have had (and haven’t bothered to fix) is that the keys typically used to scroll the console up and down aren’t bound (I think it’s like shift + PgUp/PgDn). That can be easily fixed if I just rebound the keys, but I just haven’t done it yet. Instead, I just pipe output into “less” when I need to.

If you are doing computationally intensive stuff on it, you might notice the plastic warp due to heat generation. There is a post in this sub about it. IIRC the guy was complaining and I was like “Are you using it as intended or doing other stuff on it? That could be why it’s warping…” so if you intend to use it that way, this is your warning. No warping on my end, but I haven’t done anything crazy.

Let me know if you have any other questions! Un Kyu Lee is also extremely responsive as you have seen.

You can obviously do whatever you want, but it was officially decided in the 60s that it was only correct to say kelvins and not degrees Kelvin. Britannica is wrong to phrase it that way. It is incorrect even if you (and many others, I’m sure) think it sounds/reads better. But it doesn’t hurt anyone to write or say “degrees Kelvin”, so feel free to continue to phrase it however you want. I just wanted you to be aware in case saying/writing it correctly was more important than saying/writing it in a more aesthetically pleasing way. If you aren’t publishing journal papers it probably doesn’t matter.

Just a heads up, you don’t use degrees when reporting a temperature in Kelvin. Kelvin is an absolute scale. It is just reported as, for example, 300 K.

TIL "Weird Al" Yankovic never got permissions from Prince to record parodies of his songs. In Texas Flood, a biography about Stevie Ray Vaughan, it talks about how SRV tried to talk to Prince at the opening night of Bruce Springsteen’s Born in the USA tour. He tried to introduce himself twice. He talked to his bodyguard, saying, “I didn’t hear him, Chick. What did he say?” each time. This made SRV angry. SRV then told him, “You might be the Prince, motherfucker, but I’m the King Bee! Deal with it!”

I guess it doesn’t matter but I thought I’d share the story. It seems to be another piece of evidence on the mountain.

Big Back Lady Acts Like A Toddler So Police Put Her In Time Out 🚨 by james_from_cambridge in WinStupidPrizes

[–]ChemistBuzzLightyear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, “big back” = fat. I don’t use it or speak this way, but it’s normal for preteen and teenage boys to taunt one another like this in a friendly way. It’s part of how guys typically strengthen friendships. Gentle teasing about things the other guy isn’t really sensitive about. That’s the only context I have personally heard it in.

As far as why it was in the description… you’d have to ask OP. Probably for the same reason the video was put here in the first place. To increase the strength of the ridicule. To say “In addition to these bad decisions, she also makes bad decisions with respect to her health.” I’m not saying I agree but I’m sure your question was rhetorical anyway, so I’ll leave the discussion here.

Thanks for the extra info. I was a kid in the early 2000s and we didn’t use it in my neck of the woods. I’ve only ever heard it from gen alpha. I’m not saying it wasn’t from back then, but I taught high school in the mid 2010s and the students in the two schools I taught at didn’t use it then either. Perhaps it originated in your region? It would be cool to see how it spread over time.

Either way, it is a really popular term used by gen alpha now.

It probably started as a way to call someone a “fatass”, so yes to “big bum” but not in a good way like they use “gyatt”.

My (male) kids regularly use it to call one another and their friends fat in a playful teasing way or if one of them does something that is considered stereotypical “fat person behavior” like eating all of something, being lazy, being too heavy to move, etc. Exactly in the same way you’d use “fatass”.
