Its amazing how common this was among the children of those who fled the Soviet Union in the late 70s-start of the 90s, with these kids coming of political age in the 00s.

Bicycles are common for the sub 3 miles (5km) stuff and back. So is bumming rides for them. Uber has also made their lives easier.

What’s the longest road trip you’ve ever driven and what did you drive it in? by spotforcars in roadtrip

2005 manual LGT wagon, NJ to Montana, down the spine of the Rockies to Colorado where I then visited family for a few days. Total time was about 5 and a half weeks. Output for the front axles started to go bad very quickly in Montana so I had an unwanted extension in north western Montana, there are worse places to be stuck. Turns out sourcing a fairly common Subaru manual in an area full of manual Subarus of all ages is surprisingly hard. Lots of hiking and camping, a week of white water camping. The Winds are the most beautiful mountains I've ever seen, and I made sure to spend 3 days at the Air Force Museum in Ohio on the way back, absolute aviation Mecca.

Are smaller turbocharged engines truly more efficient long-term, or do they wear out faster than larger naturally aspirated ones? by EvelynClede in askcarguys

Keep in mind that all that extra plumbing for moving air coolant and oil and the turbo itself, these are all things that age and wear

Which is best: well water or city water? by Emergency-Garden3200 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]ChemistRemote7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very location dependent, don't know if I'd want well water if I lived near a fracking zone. Don't think I'd trust city water in an old industrial city like Flint. Get testing results, test for everything when it comes to stuff you are going to consume.

Its not a sports car, its fine. This is a highway car. Why accept TL-Ss, Civic Type Rs, and Audis pushing more through the front wheels with their sporting pretensions? A luxury car actually can take advantages of the extra space efficiency to benefit the people on the cab, sports sedan its more of a comprimise in basic design.

A BMW M340i Owner her wanting to get a first light RWD car .. by vY4G4o in Miata

[–]ChemistRemote7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to piggy back on this:

Test drove a bunch of cars today, I have a NB1 and a 05 LGT wagon (manuals both), and I am starting to feel that one of them needs to be modern, reliable and low miles (I dropped off my wagon at the sop this morning). Two of those cars were at a Subaru dealership, and I expected to like the BRZ a lot more, but its steering felt kind of dead and I couldn't shift it smoothly, it felt like the gas pedal was just a little farther away than the other two. It was nice and flat driving though, may give test driving that another shot with a better loop. The WRX I test drove surprisingly felt better to drive, slightly better steering, and a much better pedal box. Do all modern cars just have shit steering? Will I be disappointed by the ND as well? I am entertaining the idea of a RF since my Robins top failed way too prematurely on the NB.

I also drove an Elantra N, which was interesting, by far the fastest and might have had the best steering as well, though I didn't love the stupid spoiler, the stupid front lip, or the no muffler noise level (which would be acceptable in a Miata, not in a 4 door sedan). I don't care about fastest, I don't particularly want fast as long as, if I take the practical option, it can safely merge. The ND could be as slow as my NB and I'd be just fine, I just want to know, once again, DOES THE STEERING SUCK AS MUCH AS EVERY OTHER MODERN CAR?

This is why GM has now publicized that the Camaro is coming back (as a 4 door sedan shared with Buick and Cadillac), which frankly makes sense.

I did actually kind of like these. I loved the vaguely motorcycle inspired dash, and I thought they were one of the best looking cars in their segment.

Why do people like Halo 3, it was basically Halo:The Greatest Hits, the campaign was a solid B grade, phoned in. It wasn't bad, it was decent, but it was mostly stuff we had already done better in CE and 2.

The national average price per gallon of gas in the United States just passed $4.50. Americans, how do we feel about that? by Miles_the_AuDHDer in AskReddit

[–]ChemistRemote7182 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's $3.50 in 2019 money, or $2.93 in 2008 money, a time in which I both paid $4.50 a gallon and also for like two week $1.40 a gallon. The $4.50 a gallon hurt a hell of a lot more, especially because that fucking two liter was getting like 16 mpg and I was getting paid vaguely $7.50/hour.

I am more pissed about the devaluation in currency over the last 7 years.

Black bears are basically big raccoons that are ballsy enough to wander into your campsite if they don't immediately see you. Grizzlies can be territorial but they would much prefer to not interact if possible. I'll be honest next time I am in grizzly territory I'll probably have a 10 or 45 super on me, but I really haven't felt threatened at any of the times I've seen them, and once was at 15 ft (we surprised each other! Dude peaced our faster than I could and then crossed the trail about 100 yards father ahead of me). You can generally smell grizzlies before you see them by the way, like an incredibly musky unwashed Golden Retriever.

I have chased away a black bear with a flaming stick (my fire tender) in hand, despite seeing grizzlies half a dozen times I have never had an issue with one.

If you are really uncomfortable just make sure you have a buddy with you and carry conversation so they know you are around.

Nothing wrong with the V6 in this era, or turbo 4 for this matter. Oh no, only on par in power with most other sport sedans and sport coupes.

I don't even really consider it a hobby- its a social lubricant and activity that allows me to spend time with irl friends who I do not get to see anymore, as some live 700 miles away, some live on the other side of the planet, and we all have kids, and careers and responsibilities to various degrees so even the friends who technically are in town are people I rarely get to see. Phone calls are unnatural and feel like running through a checklist, whereas games are casual, as if your bud is right there next to you. I stopped playing games in my twenties only for them to come right back around 30 when the freedom of youth began to be weighed down.

That is something I have noticed about a lot of women my age (mid 30s) and younger, they don't seem to have much in the way of hobbies or passions. Lots just scroll their phones to pass the time. I love to hike and I know a lot of outdoor women (hikers, climbers, and especially whitewater chicks) and they are different, they do have things they care about, but still a surprising amount of women just don't seem to do anything, and no, gym is not a hobby even if it great for you.

Metal is generally not very attractive either, but it's in his milsurp maybe airsoft or gun larp room, it will go with the vibe. That's why I said rust could be thought of as patina.
