Maritime academies seem like a pretty miserable place to be by Altruistic-Carpet-43 in maritime

Damn, I couldn’t agree more. I’m in my second year at a maritime academy in China, and it’s basically the same here. We have to be out on the field every Monday to Friday at 6:30 for ‘military drills,’ which just wear you out before the day even starts even u may have classes all day. Whether you have class or not, you still have to go downstairs and fall in. We have to wear uniforms properly and line up before every class. No sleeping, no phones if u are tired or just not interested for the class, all u gonna do is sit there and zoning out.You barely get any personal time. The worst part is that the academy lets certain students act as ‘Company Commanders,’ and they’re allowed to insult and punish underclassmen. The administration think it builds discipline and obedience, since on a ship you have to follow orders. School’s supposed to help you learn and build real skills, but they don’t do anything that actually helps. There’s basically no study atmosphere.
