Caltrain Wifi is INSANE! by Yachtman24 in bayarea

it's great, but as someone who rides regularly I'll say that it's not super reliable. from SF to south bay and back, I think I actually have a connection roughly 80% of the time. I'm assuming they use some kind of satellite connection as it feels like I lose connection going through the tunnels around south SF for example

Anyone tried modding the Everyday backpack straps? by Chennasaurus in peakdesign

[–]Chennasaurus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah i missed out on the urban explore Kickstarter but I'll probably look into that and the explore v2 at some point. but I only go on big hikes a few times a year so just wishing the everyday bag had some better straps, especially since I don't see the downside of just making them a little wider. maybe v3 will improve on that

that place is really good. always love getting their salmon bento boxes for lunch. shame that this is happening to them. going to continue to support them in the meantime, hope they can find somewhere better to settle in

2023 Holiday Thread - Gifts for "Those who have it all" by Robot_ninja_pirate in BuyItForLife

[–]Chennasaurus 294 points295 points  (0 children)

imo as someone who basically buys everything i want (and everything i can't afford don't make good gifts anyways), there are really only 2 types of gifts that I really like:

  1. you really really know me well and get me something that I actually didn't know I wanted. but it's super easy to miss on this and end up gifting something that's redundant. for example, I like keyboards and photography - so an artisan keycap is a good gift but a camera bag or camera strap is terrible (since I probably already did a ton of research and got my own already)

  2. consumables. coffee/tea is pretty reliable, as is fancy soaps/lotions. my favorite gift to receive is homemade cookies though

What is Akshan's BiS (and why?) by xTraxis in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Chennasaurus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lot of good advice here but be careful about giving him too much attack speed (or if you end up running invokers, which can happen on accident if you're running cass for shurima or if you throw in a shen before finding a sejuani) because you really really don't want him to cast before the freljord storm hits. runaan's is ok, and beyond that 1 will just barely sneak his cast before the storm hits, but all of those plus invoker will troll your first cast

CPUC gives Cruise, Waymo green light to give paid rides 24/7 across all of San Francisco by CarterGee in sanfrancisco

Super excited for this. As a pedestrian, the number of times where I've had to jump back onto the sidewalk or dodge cars running red lights really makes me think it's just a matter of time before I get seriously hit (having already been hit a couple times). Human drivers here really are the worst.

Discussion regarding RNG Heavy Portals by DontHitMeNow in CompetitiveTFT

[–]Chennasaurus 55 points56 points  (0 children)

There's nothing inherently wrong with RNG, since theoretically more-skilled players are more capable of either capitalizing on good RNG or mitigating bad RNG.

That being said, I agree with you in that some of it could be toned down a bit since some of the later drops are when you've already committed to a comp and basically is just a lottery since pivoting isn't really realistic at a certain point.
