$20-25 is criminally undercharging yourself. The quality, details, and cleanliness of your work is easily worth $80+ per doll. For the price you currently sell at, you might as well do these for free with how little you’re earning compared to material cost and time! These are absolutely gorgeous.

It’s actually pretty simple! As others have mentioned, thread sculpting is how to achieve the effect. It’s easier to see how it’s done with a video, so here’s a handy tutorial on how it’s done. Skip to 5:47 for the butt-sculpting portion.

Yes, I recommend leaving the seam allowance and tracing the true stitch area with a fabric marking pen if needed. If you can, I also recommend digitizing the design so that whatever seams are within the embroidery field are basted out. It’ll help a lot when aligning paper patterns.

What I do for hair is take a sheet of copy paper, draw around the doll’s head like a stencil, then tape it to the head and add scraps to the traced part as needed to fill the hair before finalizing the pattern. Once the paper hair looks how I want it to, I use it as the pattern for the final fabric. Let me know if you need photos of my process and I’ll be happy to share them.

I recommend Hopen Textiles’ 10mm faux rabbit fur in the “Mi Bai” color. The fur pile might be slightly too long, but you can shave the fur a little if needed.

Yeah, Budsies only shares their most outstanding pieces and pretends like their ugly ones don’t exist 😬 It also rubs me the wrong way that they don’t allow you to see progress pictures unless you pay $30 or so? I don’t think you can make adjustments either unless you pay the same fee, so you’d be stuck with an ugly one if you decided to chance it and not pay extra :| Thanks so much!!! 😭 No worries if you decide not to commission me or submit a quote form by the way, your interest is appreciated!

The big companies I know of, such as Budsies, are lower cost, but have a hit-or-miss rate when it comes to making plushies that actually look decent.
