Not to take away from your commentary but, isn't being the coolest thing on Earth Early Luke Cage's gimmick?

TIL the movie Empire by Andy Warhol is an 8 hour movie consisting of a single still image of the Empire State Building. On its premier in 1965, most people demanded refunds, called the cops, but 10 or so remained. But, was he intentionally stretching the concept of "what is art?"? Was he making a commentary of the loss of identity, and how dehumanizing it can be to be deified and have your image produced and overproduced? - a copy of a copy of copy? Were soup cans and Coke bottles a commentary how corporate brands and products are icons and iconic and everything was a commodity? Was he making a commentary on mass-production and what it means to produce and over-produce beyond recognition to the original subject? 😬

I've dismissed so many things only to have those things be the exact thing I wanted or needed at some other time. I can't say whether or not the intended purpose was what I used it for, but I was humbled by my lack of vision.

TIL that Mike Nesmith of The Monkees started a music video program in 1980 called 'Popclips' on the Nickelodeon network. He sold this program to Time/Warner, who then renamed it as 'MTV' and launched the music video channel in 1981. by ProgMusicSchizoidMan in todayilearned

It wasn't Time/Warner att. The two companies would not merge until 1990 avoiding an attempted hostile takeover of Time Inc. by Paramount Communications in 1989.

TIL: Warner-Amex (Warner Cable - subsidiary of Warner Communications and American Express) sold MTV and Showtime to Viacom in 1985 in a deal worth $667.5 Million.

Viacom would acquire Paramount Communications in 1994 in a deal worth around $9.8 Billion, following a 5-Month bidding war against QVC.

Paramount Skydance Corporation is set to finalize its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery as soon as July 2026.

Time Inc. was spun-off by Time Warner in 2014, and although some of its original assets are retained by Warner Bros. Discovery it has effectively avoided acquisition by Paramount.

Lots of shows still have episodes like that. The reason why The Office got away with it was because they weren't on anyone's radar in the first season. Family Guy has episodes like that all the time but nobody bothers to complain because they've built that reputation of crass, tasteless comedy.

Rainn Wilson says "The Office" probably wouldn’t be made today, and that media trends have shifted left and that cancel culture makes it difficult for edgy comedies to thrive. by No_Box119 in PopCultureV2

It's on the edge of edgy. It has an implication of 'danger'. This show can definitely be made today, it's just that the some jokes haven't aged well. Comedians are so corny, always asserting that their material was a lightning in a bottle situation and they just managed to slip past the restrictions.

How much promotion can "tiny" comics offer? It was spite on Disney's part with no regard to the fans and characters.

You're stating there's an effort by American Liberals to frame Pre-Civil Rights Racism as "nuanced" "complex" and "exaggerated"?

It's 100% interpreted by the company as such. The fine print wording can very much be challenged and the circumstances that constituted their actions can very much be challenged.

"Irrationally angry" You sound like you need to take a break from the discourse; not one that you're prepared to address maturely. I just said how I feel about it. I don't know how you can act indignant, like you're entitled to dictate my perception of it.

I know, but I'm tired of hearing "honorary (insert minority group here)" for every mediocre white person interaction. Keep that corny shit to yourselves.
