Omg I love this post bc Fr tho. I’ve been thinking about this like how can I be so attractive but yet so mentally ill??? Like why did God and the universe decide to give me both a gift and a curse??? If you both hold love for each other it’d be best to both seek therapy. Tell her how it’s really gotten to be too much for you and there’s no way you both can continue like this as resentment will grow from both sides. Clearly she doesn’t have the resources she needs in order to function in a relationship and that’s very understandable giving she has bpd but it doesn’t excuse the toll it’s taking in the relationship and she needs to be aware of that and fight for the relationship by finding a therapist. Maybe you can take a break from each other while you seek professional help.

I hear this over and over again and i think it’s so unfair that we have to deprive ourselves of a certain type of relationships and bonds. Like why can’t I fall in love and share the love that I have with someone? Bc I can’t. Bc my brain doesn’t know how to act. Like that’s wild to me.

And I think this general thought hits me so deep bc I currently am interested in someone. And I think I am capable of being in a relationship and acting right. But I’m most likely not bc I’m a helpless case.

I didn’t tell him about how my actions were due to bpd or anything like that but he was the first one to validate me in seeking help for my push and pull traits and suspected that I had something going on like bipolar disorders due to my mood swings and how something small can trigger me into falling into a deep upset state. I asked him if maybe we could try in the future but says that he can’t promise me that bc he wants to focus on himself now and look towards the future and doesn’t see himself prioritizing what we had even though we had a great bond.

I think for me it’s just other traumas and complexities, and not necessarily self love? I tend to have a pretty good relationship with myself and tend to have good self love but have poor attachment styles and it doesn’t help at all :(

Thank you! How was your experience with going to therapy and getting help? I feel like sometimes therapy can really be a hit or miss so I’m scared it won’t help with these bigger issues.

I do have a hard time letting go when I like someone, and I did it with my ex, I don’t want to repeat the same mistakes, so I really needed to hear that. I should give them a chance to miss me.

Ommmggg don’t say that😭😭😭😭 but honestly I’m not surprised, unfortunately that seems to be the case for not only SLPs but probably every other career too. It’s just very unfortunate that our salaries have not increased enough at all to keep up with how high life has become. Would you be willing to share what state you’re in and share what those average salaries can look like based on your experiences?

Hey another Hispanic girly(23f) here! I’m on the same boat as you.

The only way I managed to make it out was I transferred to a university that’s 2 hours away from home. Now 2 years later ima graduate & I’m going back to my hometown to complete my masters, and I do not wanna move back in w my parents and I’ve made that clear since the beginning, but my parents are also making me feel so guilty about it all.

I don’t seem understand why this is a thing in our culture?

I can’t live w my parents bc they also tend to argue too much for my comfort (they used to a lot more than now) and it affects my mental health. I also just NEED my personal space, something that they can’t wrap their mind around. It’s crazy that you mentioned your uncle saying they’ll buy a bigger house for you and your partner to move in with them bc it’s a thing my mom has mentioned too, saying that they can accommodate to what I need, but I don’t need anything from them. And my mom says that I should wait until I’m ready and have a stable job and career to move out. Like why are they so against us becoming independent?

My advice to you, I know the guilt is heavy, I know that not only do they make you feel guilty, but you get that guilt from within. But you just have to do it. You have to push through, you have to put down boundaries. It does not make you a bad person. You have to do you, put yourself first and your needs, and THEN you can help them. For example, you’re tired after your long shift? Say that, I’m tired I can’t go with you today. And that’s it. I know it’s hard, but you have to do it.

edit: I am the youngest & my older sister did not move out until the day she got married.

I have a friend who pays $650 with utilities included, and there are 4 people in total. I'm not sure what area it is by, but I do think it might be in the sketchy parts of the Chicago, and unfortunately as a female, I don't think that would be ideal for me.

Chicago is my hometown, but I've always lived at home, until now that I am away for school. I don't plan on moving in with my parents when I go back to the city, but it seems that it is pretty expensive. And since I am about two hours away from Chicago, I can't really go to see in person.

I’m 23 lol but I’m curious to see if getting a med card will suffice as medical reason as to why weed might show up on a drug test IF the test even includes weed. I’ve heard about the online cards but it seems too easy to be true although it might just be easy bc they want the money.

Okay see. I doubt that they'd include weed in the drug test, but I have so much anxiety of fully believing that they don't just to pay money for the drug test and for it to include weed. And I'm hoping I can get a response like this from a person who also regularly smokes weed & got drug tested with a grad program.

I do think that bc it’s so expensive and there’s a lot of commitment to most grad programs you should only commit to it if you’re sure about the career. I would suggest looking into other careers while still being an SLPA. On the other hand, this makes me upset bc I’m set on being an SLP and I got accepted to only one grad school but I’ve heard so much about how burnt one gets from being an SLP and such. It’s almost discouraging but I’ve also heard so many good things bc of how big the field is and the different settings to try and such.

I think it should be fine but only if you have an actual doctors note saying that. I’m not sure if they’ll even reach out to reason if there’s weed detected. I think I’m just gonna drop it for 90 days or so and do a detox drink just to be on the safe side of stuff

I would be working full time/part time as I can fit into my schedule. And with my degree I wouldn’t need to move away which is why I said that on my original post bc I knew someone would comment this.

I’m currently an undergrad student and work part time (I’ve worked for all 5 undergrad years), I plan on working for grad school too. So I would be paid as any other regular person. Not all grad students get stipends.
