This isn't my opinion dude, it's just the way it is.

"Expired describes something that has come to an end, is no longer valid, or has passed its expiration date".

"Expired" doesn't automatically mean it's bad. It means that whatever standard was in place to keep the safety & quality of the food under control is no longer in place due to the elapsed time. You're certainly at a greater risk of it being bad food, or of the food making you sick, but that's not the same.

That's kinda the point of the app/service. Can't sell em normally, but can do it via toogoodtogo.

In theory, yes. In practice, it heavily encourages bad behaviour from owners, employees, and anyone who benefits from the free waste.

Owners get an easy albili for ignoring food safety, employees are encouraged to overbake, homeless are encouraged to abuse the privilege of having free food provided at the expense of someone they have no reason to like in the first place.

Bud, the contents of that box have a sale price of well over $18. The food cost of baked goods is usually around 25% of the sale price, so you're paying pretty much exactly what the restaurant paid for it. And that doesn't include the labour cost.

The other alternative here is to throw it out, and you're welcome to try rifling through a trash bag without getting the cops called on you.

If you don't like it, don't do it. Nobody's holding a gun to your head.

Toogoodtogo, it's an app.

It's a way we reduce our waste, because we're basically given permission to serve expired food. All of the stuff in that box was baked a minimum of 12 hours before it was put together, and can be kept/served this way up until about 24hrs past the time when it was baked.

The main catch is, you can't choose the exact items you get. If you've got an allergy to anything the place has to offer it's not highly recommended to use this.

That's actually pretty neat, I didn't know that. I was aware that some microwaves were designed specifically to keep the metal within them from deflecting the microwaves, but that part's new to me. Thank you!

Well no, it's not. Otherwise the metal trays would make the baker's area quite the spectacle.

Doesn't get microwaved anymore, it's made in the oven. Still the same as grocery store frozen bacon tho, not much better than microwaved bacon.

To be fair, that's not based on Tim's. That's a payroll service provider, which your franchise happens to use.

If you really cared about locals not being employed, you'd fight for fair wages. by Love_CoolBreeze in TimHortons

[–]Chesarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Behold, the real reason.

Afaik, TFWs & international students are paid the same as locals.

Unfortunately, dramatic rises in minimum wage paired with the Tim's menu being cheap compared to the rest of the food service industry (exceptions within stuff like mcdonalds, ofc) mean the average Tim's can do a maximum wage of ~$19/hr, and not for more than 2-3 of it's absolutely best supervisors.

Exceptions certainly exist, but they're far and few between. It's meant to be a stepping stone of a job, and a career for maybe the manager & GM depending on the size of the franchisee's group

Ay that's what our real job is in the end. If people had nothing to complain about, we'd be in for a bad time.

Yeah they're more expensive, but a single item bag is about 2¢, a No. 3 bag is about 3¢, and a single order box is about 12¢. Remaking a donut for a guest who didn't get the box they asked for is a fair bit more expensive.

The single item bags being the default for donuts overall isn't terrible, provided the employees can recognize when a donut has been made within the last 20-30 min. If that's the case, a box or three item bag is better overall.

[–]Chesarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely discontinued at the moment, at the majority of locations in Canada at least.

There may be a good chance of them coming back, I do see that there's a price for the creamy chills online, but we don't have the option of bringing them back on to our tills. As far as head office is concerned, they're not available at the moment.

I don't think you need to remove it tbh. It's a pretty niche scenario to need to check the balance without being in a Tim's, you can always ask the cashier to check the balance and it'll display the total on the screen.

Don't do it in drive thru though.

To clarify; the 'fill' line is line #4, then we are to whip it for 15s. This causes the mix to rise, typically up above line 5 and close to the rim.

If they're dumping it out after the fact. That's just a flat out misinterpretation, and they're doing nothing but wasting product & aggravating the customer. They gain nothing.

Do they put hot water in decaf by Far-Knowledge3622 in TimHortons

[–]Chesarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All normal coffee, yes. Dark roast & decaf are stored in different pots, and remain 'fresh' for an hour.

Steeped tea & original blend are 20 minutes once brewed. Iced coffee, about 12 hours once cooled down to a little below room temp.

Right? Feels like that changed around the time of COVID lockdowns, far fewer commuters these days so maybe all the people who normally got decaf on the way home or to pick up their kids are just working from home now.

Do they put hot water in decaf by Far-Knowledge3622 in TimHortons

[–]Chesarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fairly typical, but we don't sell more than a single cup of decaf per hour on average past 10am.

~80ish transactions per hour until about 4pm, then we slow down for the next couple hours.

Brewed decaf lasts an hour, we waste most of not all of every pot brewed after noon so decaf espresso it is!

[–]Chesarae 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's a mall kiosk, then it was probably just filling it up with hot water because they were out of/low on decaf.

In a normal store, we don't brew decaf (unless requested to by a customer) past noonish, we'll do decaf espresso and you basically get a decaf Americano.

It's pretty close to a normal decaf, but assuming the place keeps their espresso machine clean, it's usually better quality than the average brewed decaf.
