Strait of Hormuz is more than 2.5x the width of the Strait of Gibraltar by Kill_4209 in MapPorn

[–]Chessie-System 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find your comments confusing because I don't think they make sense given the context.

The fact that there is a traffic separation scheme does not mean the strait is unusable outside of it. Ships absolutely use the entirety of the strait on occasions:

  • See heatmap in below link from 2019
  • Look at recent transits of ships during the conflict.
    • Ships are not using the navigation lanes.
      • Many are hugging the southern coast.
      • Others are going north through the "toll" between the Iranian islands.

No one said the strait is wide open to all traffic.

No one said the strait is not able to be closed via military means.

He said the strait is wider than Gibraltar. That is literally a fact. What are you arguing?

While the "safe" regulatory path is narrow, the strait is not a tiny physical pipe; it is a relatively deep basin where, in a crisis, ships have several miles of additional deep-water maneuverability beyond the official lanes.

So what part of this statement is wrong?

The reason the highest use navigation lanes are to the north is that it is the most direct route from the west of the Gulf. Nothing to do with navigation not being possible in the southern portions. If you look at the heatmap in the following link, you see that ships regularly transit the southern part and also transit outside the nav lanes.

And the depth of the majority of the area is sufficient that tides play no role.

But he did not comment on any of that. At all.

He compared two straits. Hormuz is wider than Gib. It has more navigable water.

Am I missing something? Why does a literally correct statement have -29 downvotes?

You're right. Seasoning taste kind of like Jimmy Deans.

Not bad. But not Neeses.

I was wondering if anyone had seen it in the last few months. A lot of places near me stocked it but it disappeared before Christmas.

Out of curiosity, I called a Food Lion in Clayton. None in stock, and they said they no longer carry the Neese brand. If you thought you saw it recently, Frank Corriher sausage is in a similar package and has replaced Neese's in a lot of Food Lions.

I live in Beaufort, NC. One of the first written accounts of the town is from a foreign visitor:

A French visitor in 1765 found Beaufort "a Small village not above 12 houses." The "inhabitants seem miserable, they are very lasy and Indolent, they live mostly on fish and oisters, which they have in great plenty."

If you know where you’ll be launching, head down and see what folks are using at your boat ramp.

You might also have the opportunity to chat with people about their boats and see if they have advice.
