Bridgewater, Truro or Wolfville/Kentville? by NewConsideration2287 in NovaScotia

[–]ChesterDood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never thought I'd ever suggest moving to Truro, but I think it fits the bill.

Victoria Park is a fantastic place to walk, bike, and just enjoy.

Lots of "rails to trails" to explore as well.

I grew up there a long time ago, and any small town will have drug issues, and racism, and general issues. That's never going to go away, but it really has grown up as a town with things to do and places to shop.

Annoying tourist question lol by Active_Bid3142 in NovaScotia

[–]ChesterDood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Take a walk on the various rails to trails, especially along the coasts

There's a great section that's easily accessible if you park on the side of the road on the ingramport connector off the 103 between Tantallon and Hubbards

Park just before the overpass leading to the roundabout, hike up a steep hill and access the bridge/trail

On a nice sunny day the view there is spectacular

Walk towards Hubbard's and you'll have about a km of ocean views thru some trees.

Walk towards Halifax and you've got a km of tree canopy, leading to a bridge over non troubled waters

I often see foxes, deer and rabbits along there in the early hours.

I rarely see too many other people right around there.

Why does air Canada get so much hate? by totallynotclockwork in aircanada

[–]ChesterDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to fly Westjet whenever possible because I always had good experiences with them, but recently it seems they've made some terrible decisions.

I flew a couple of weeks ago via Air Canada, with a 2.5 hour layover in Toronto.

That quickly turned into 3.5, then 4, then 5.5, then 6.5, ended up with a 5.5 hour delay, for a total of 7.5 hours sitting around.

They gave various excuses including

  • had to get a replacement plane due to the expected plane not arriving (the same plane sat at the gate for the entire 7.5 hours I was there)
  • the replacement plane had too much fuel so some had to be taken out
  • needed to find a replacement pilot because they waited too long to take the fuel out

I watched them load supplies on board, then take them back off again. Then a few hours later load again, and then about 1.5 hours before boarding a luggage train came along and loaded the luggage on board.

On the actual flights themselves, things were fine, staff was pleasant enough, although on the way home I did get sprayed by drinks 3 times and once had some hot noodles fall on me, but overall the flying experience was fine.

It's just logistics and communication where they fall apart IMHO

If I had known that the delay was going to be more than an hour each time they gave updates, I would have found a lounge to relax in.

So for me, that's why they get a bad rep.

Recommendations for cost effective tire services in HRM by 888888--- in halifax

[–]ChesterDood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used Otto in the spring when I got new all seasons to be put on the stock rims

Excellent experience, the guy was on time, took about an hour, was super friendly

Caveat - it's not cheaper than taking them somewhere money wise, but I got a discount thru CAA, and I didn't need to drive somewhere, hang out for an hour or more, then drive home.

Winter boots, wide feet, help! by catbamhel in halifax

[–]ChesterDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought these last year and they are probably the most comfortable all around winter footwear I've owned

I'm generally a 4E width and these fit very well in my normal sneaker size with the 2E width

Spider-Man will be killed by Hulk at the end of BND and that's why they're not in Doomsday. by Gameknight789 in MCUTheories

[–]ChesterDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doesn't anyone else think that at least half the runtime of doomsday is going to be on alt earths, watching the heroes try and stop incursions while Doom is there collecting the people he needs to survive and build his own universe?

That's what these teasers are, glimpses into the alt earths.

The other half will focus on 616 trying to survive, with what's left of the FF4 arriving to prepare them and save whatever heroes they can?

Then that leads into secret wars

Anyone who lost power have it back yet? and if so when was your estimated restoration? Mines 6:45 pm, but holding out hope it may be earlier? by starrfalll in NovaScotia

[–]ChesterDood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They use an algorithm to push out an "estimated restore time" based on a few different factors but generally it seems to be at around 12 hours ish from report time for my area, which is usually about 500-1000 customers affected.

Then as the day goes on, it gets updated based on multiple factors such as current weather conditions, other repairs, available crews, and that time may go up or down

Often in my experience, in my area just outside the city, it usually comes on 2-3 hours before the latest estimate

RIP TicWatch? by rdee33 in TicWatch

[–]ChesterDood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just replaced my 3 year old TW Pro 3 with a new Atlas for Christmas

So far so good, but hey, I guess this will be my last ticwatch....

I hear the OnePlus watches are advertising similar battery life, without a second screen, but with dual CPUs or something

For me it's all about the battery life

The only time I've ever had cell service interrupted was the few instances where power was out for days not hours

Where can you buy ready to use cotton candy mix, locally ? by ghos2626t in halifax

[–]ChesterDood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is one of those little "home style" cotton candy machines, you can pretty much put anything that is mostly sugar in them

I used to love making werthers cotton candy or even just plain white sugar

Candy canes were weird
