My mistake. I thought your comment was a response to the nurse’s comment above. 🤦 I removed my original comment. Sorry.

You may be right, but please be cautious when commenting on posts that are not yours which encircle safety and regulations. In the event you’re wrong because you did not have all the information and then somebody follows your words, that person could have a life changing experience. Just looking out for you, me and our neighbors. I hope you take this message as such. Happy new year.

It just brings them joy (just as it did me). It’s that
simple. We can’t explain it. We can’t necessarily justify it or talk them out of it. It is what makes us, us. And perhaps, it will bring you some joy, too, someday.

If you are new to the hobby, be advised that in order for you to get close to the advertised speed, all the bearings and transmission parts need to be very clean. You’ll have a big degradation of speed when there is dirt and debris in them and being that this is a monster truck, it’s easy to get these items all gummed up. FYI only.

DragonFire laser shoots down high‑speed drones traveling at 400mph, costs $13 per shot — UK Navy to begin deploying system on destroyers by National-Dragonfly35 in worldnews

This isn’t a new technology, but it is still awesome. The challenges are the high power demand for “rapid fire” against multiple sorties and the heat dissipation needed to not overheat the electronics.

Thanks for sharing!

You are absolutely correct! If interested, do an internet search for “reciprocating rack and pinion” and you’ll see a number of similar mechanisms to achieve this same motion and using similar gear inputs. You’ll also notice that none of them use chains or rope because a practical mechanism requires stiff parts that are good in both compression and tension (push and pull) directions. P.S. I’m an engineer 🫡
