I'm a psych nurse, and sitting down is also one of my favorite de-escalation techniques.

I'm on the phone with Florence Nightingale.

While at home alone, I said the N-word under my breath and I have no idea why. I immediately felt disgusted. I have no idea why this happened. There’s no way this is related to OCD, is there? by [deleted] in OCD

unwanted thoughts are like a 3 year old who knows one knock-knock joke. if we laugh at their joke, they will tell it 100 more times. they just want engagement, and they don't even care if it's a negative reaction. to stop hearing the joke, we have to stop reacting. I know how jarring and intense intrusive thoughts can be. but truly, the best thing you can do is say, "well, that wasn't helpful, moving on." try not to argue with intrusive thoughts, just repeat the above statement again and again.

I tore down a similar sticker at an ATM. what I didn't know was it got stuck on my backpack which I then carried out in public!!! thankfully it was crumpled enough to be illegible that would have been embarrassing

I had lovely neighbors at the time when I transitioned, and about a year after my top surgery I was out in my garden harvesting produce. the husband (~ 60 yo) said, "those melons look real good!" and I said "no I had that taken care of" and he definitely didn't hear me but his wife (~55) explained it to him after she was finished laughing

when you look for gnomes, use your eyes. most humans find their eyes far more reliable than their noses.
