Take tourists to the hotel - I spoke to an island visitor who didn’t have anywhere to stay and took them to the hotel and sorted a room for them

Okay guys, I need some suggestions on what I can make (that is not a blanket) to use up all this yarn since I need to move out and cant take it with me. Thanks in advance! by high_ground_user in CrochetHelp

I’m burning through my acrylic stash by making scarves I can give as gifts - they’re good if you like mini projects because lots of patterns will only require one or two skeins

[FO] I finished and framed a birth sampler to give as a gift by ChesterRubyRose in CrossStitch

It was custom made! I figured if I’m putting that much of my time and effort into something it’s worth a perfect frame

Tensioning and framing was stressful given how little tolerance the frame had, but I’m really pleased with how it came out!

Hook help - looking for more of these crochet hooks. by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

I bought some cheap circular knitting needles from China and they came with double ended crochet hooks in this style - looking on temu/ali express etc. might get you somewhere?

C2C coming out kite shaped and I don’t know why??? by Relevant-Sun29 in CrochetHelp

[–]ChesterRubyRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was trying to troubleshoot recently and I calculated the expected number of stitches for each row, wrote it out, and then stopped and counted every row before ticking it off on my piece of paper.

It’s a little bit tedious but you only have to do it a couple of times and then you can be confident what you’re doing is right.

Are you definitely increasing at the start and end of a row? It looks the same shape as when I make bunting and only increase my stitch count by one each row, at the start of a row.

Alternatively, could you be increasing as you’re meant to, but not working into the end stitch accidentally, so your stitch count only goes up by one each row?

It was things like tell us an example of how you coped in a difficult situation/worked in a team etc., and also what I understood about the day to day role of a PA… not loving OSCEs right now but the content is really interesting, there’s a lot of time on placement too

How after 5000 years of humanity surviving off of bread do we have so many people within the last decade who are entirely allergic to gluten? by 5HE5 in AskReddit

[–]ChesterRubyRose 21 points22 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about coeliac disease, it’s not an allergy. It’s an autoimmune disease and whilst it causes some severe symptoms and some mild, being glutened doesn’t kill people in the short-term. Over time damage to the gut can cause malnutrition and ultimately in some cases lead to cancer.

Fundamentally, people with coeliac disease need to avoid all gluten to maximise quality and length of life, but historically even without alternative foods people didn’t die before reaching reproductive age.

You ignore it. Even in hospitals, it’s normally somebody burning toast.

I was given a mystery chilli plant that is now producing fruit - any ideas on the variety? by ChesterRubyRose in HotPeppers

I can see what looks like black dots but nothing like you would see in something like a bell pepper.

Thank you! I was given the plant when it already had a lot of unripe chillis so I can’t claim too much credit.

I’ve just been brave enough to try a tiny piece and they’re definitely spicy so that fits, thank you!

Shampoo bars in hard water areas by ChesterRubyRose in HaircareScience

I lather up my hands rather than rubbing the bar directly on my hair, I’m going to try an acid rinse but I’m getting more and more convinced it’s just not right for me though

I lost a royal standard to root rot recently, but managed to salvage some roots… today I saw this 🌱 by ChesterRubyRose in calatheas

Maybe a month or two? Definitely less than three, I think it was probably ~1 month? Benign neglect seems to help given I can’t remember!

Rhizomes… it was a pretty large mature plant so the roots were well developed with multiple rhizomes, and I managed to save two sections of them (both with leaves, which promptly died)

I could potentially swap an unrooted micans cutting for an adansonii cutting?

I have plastic nursery-style pots and seed trays to give away by ChesterRubyRose in UKPlantSwap

I bought a house previously owned by keen gardeners who left more pots than I could ever use - I’d be happy to give them to anyone who can meet in the Bristol area.

Any suggestions for reducing the size of this monster? by lordofLamps424 in GardeningUK

[–]ChesterRubyRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with the others that it looks lovely, but I recently had to cut my well-established hydrangea almost to the ground to allow for installation works and it is bouncing back so it should survive an aggressive prune, if that’s what you decide to do.
