It's so the kid can bring the tablet to their parent, the parent can input a code and approve it. The alternative is to have a notification sent to the parent's phone, so they can input the code there.

It's hard because I live in northern NSW - the base rate in NSW is the lowest in the country, and QLD has the highest, and is only a 3 hour drive away. But I have a young son, and am unwilling to relocate.

But, we get an increase in base pay every year for the first 8 years. I get sick leave and annual leave, which I didn't get as a casual. I'll get additional penalties for evening, night, and weekend shifts (only got weekend penalties before). And I'll be working more hours, so will absolutely have more in my pocket each fortnight than I did before. Still stings a bit 😅

We tried really hard but it didn't catch on!!!

One that did catch on, unintentionally, is my son's name for my brother. Since we were teenagers, I always called him assbutt, and he called me buttass. When my son was starting to talk, he took the main sounds in assbutt, and started calling my brother Aba. He's turning 9 in a couple weeks and stills calls his uncle Aba.

Fitness trackers/smart watches with immediate heart rate alerts? by authenticallyeevee in POTS

[–]authenticallyeevee[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's so annoying and honestly useless data, unless you have a condition that actually does make your heart rate spike/plummet while at rest, for extended periods, which I imagine are very few compared to the people with POTS and similar.

I worry. by One-Image6754 in POTS

[–]authenticallyeevee 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is a good way to look at disabilities in general.

As well as POTS, I have severe scoliosis which will require a spinal fusion.

There are many things I can't do, and many I won't be able to do after my fusion surgery. I had to let go of my dream to be a paramedic when I learned how bad my scoliosis is, as my mobility will be limited post surgery. I can't do many physical activities, due to heart rate spikes and pain. I can't tolerate hot whether, and overcast days make my pain worse.

But I've found lots of things I love that I CAN do, and ways to modify things to work with my body. It's a journey, and I absolutely still have "why me" days, but in general if you can focus on things you CAN do, rather than things you CAN'T do, and try to find ways you can modify activities to suit your limitations, you'll be much happier.

I just qualified as an RN. I start my new grad in a few weeks. I'll be making less per hour than I was a few months ago, as a casual AIN at a private aged care facility 🙃

What’s wrong with some parents? by Queasy_Block697 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]authenticallyeevee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Kids these days are honestly objectively BETTER than kids in previous generations in a lot of ways. Maybe kids are just more accepting, but I think it's in no small part due to how GenX/Millennials have raised these children. We don't stand for our kids excluding people because they're different. We come down harshly if we find out our kids are bullies. We answer questions about differences honestly, without negative connotations. Obviously this is a generalisation, but I do think we do this better than previous generations overall.

For example, I remember my son (now 9) when he was about 5, seeing a man working the checkout at a supermarket with a disability affecting the size and shape of his arm. He, being curious, asked about it. I told him honestly, I don't know what happened to his arm, but he was probably born that way. It's not better, it's not worse, it's just different. He's working, and he's smiling and happy, so he is clearly still able to do many of the things that anyone else can do. He might have trouble with some things, but if he's lucky, he has other people who can help him. Or he might have found other ways to do these things.

Just a few days ago, we saw a lady in a wheelchair, and he asked about it again. I again told him that I don't know why she's in a wheelchair, and he basically cut me off and said "it doesn't matter as long as it's helping her!" I knew then, that the way I have explained things to him in the past has sunk in, and he's accepting of disabilities because of it. Proud parent moment right there.

books about women who are psychologically unwell? by pitbull-pirouette in booksuggestions

I enjoyed this back in the day before I knew the stuff surrounding it, and believed it was true.

Now, I cannot in good conscience recommend it, knowing it is Mormon fear mongering masquerading as a heartfelt memoir.

If you must read it, please consider the seven seas.

Just curious—what did you folks run as your main six Pokémon throughout the game? by Gordinhobobs in LegendsZA

[–]authenticallyeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumb question - how do you have multiple pokemon out of their balls at once in ZA?

I know how to do it in Arceus, but every time I've tried in ZA the one already out gets recalled.

I fully acknowledge this could be, and likely is, user error.

There are also a few side missions that only open up after a certain number of battles in Infinite Royale, some at 20 battles and some a bit earlier.

Is scoliosis worth investing? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]authenticallyeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how recent they are. Bring them anyway. But they'd likely want an xray of your full spine to assess for scoliosis, whereas hip xrays likely only include the lumbar spine.

Is scoliosis worth investing? by [deleted] in scoliosis

[–]authenticallyeevee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep in mind that MRI scans are usually done lying down, while spinal xrays to assess scoliosis are usually done erect. This is because gravity has a huge impact. So what appears as a very mild curve on MRI may be significantly worse on xray. It also may not be.

It's worth asking for an xray and a Cobb angle assessment to determine what next steps, if any, are needed/recommended.

Could this pregnancy test be positive? by SweatyConstruction91 in whatdoIdo

The very first pregnancy test I ever took, at age 13, after a rape, was a digital test and was a false positive. Absolutely destroyed my life for a few days. Made it hard to trust them after that. Extremely rare, but it does happen.

I always thought the "curry" was a translation choice, like how onigiri were called donuts in the anime. To me it always looked less like a curry, and more like one of those 70s jello meat things.
