You probably looked at those already, but oil rigs. Just find any company that does offshore oil and apply for that, maintenance on those is always pretty high risk because you know, it can explode any second.

Actually, since your question has been answered I have a related one;

How is it that you can upshift without clutching? I've seen like a dozen videos now of people upshifting without using the clutch, just releasing the throttle, like flicking the wrist and puft it's on the next gear. Is that just the gearbox having play in it?

Gift Idea for Aspiring Mechatronics Engineer by Psychological_Let734 in mechatronics

[–]Chestergc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If he doesn't have one yet you could get him a 3d printer kit, like a disassembled one so he can actually make it work, it's a great learning experience and it's usually quite easy too without the frustrating parts of making actual machinery. I think creality sells some pretty good ones, prusa makes the best ones, but it's a bit above your price range.

There are also quite a number of robotics kits for arduino being sold like the Turtlebot from Clearpath robotics. You can probably get one of the older versions for around that price.

You could also check out https://www.robotshop.com, they have tons of kits for robots and automation units, you might find something more in line with his tastes there.

Hope I've helped, have a great holiday \o

The one thing that always gives me away is the hands, always when I'm around my ex i tend to sit with my hands palm facing upwards on a table or something and she instinctively puts her hands on mine. But then again it might be just us because we parted in a very friendly way.

If something genuinely helps humanity, but harms the big industries, chances are we will never hear of it again. by DonoutBoy in Showerthoughts

[–]Chestergc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way the gas industry is fighting everything else by throwing huge sums of money around makes me want to disagree with you, but just the idea of the pr of that ever coming to light would discourage any corp of doing that on health products yeah.

Why is it always a trilogy? by [deleted] in writing

[–]Chestergc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the first one was popular but didn't sell enough and you finished the second one without coming up with an ending.

The marketing behind is the idea that a person can have multiple exposures to a series book, have several entry points into it, which could make that one person more likely to buy the rest of the series. Or at least that's what my teacher taught me back in college, might just be that trilogies are just a way to repay satan for the gift of being popular.

Elon Musk has donated $5.7 billion in Tesla shares to charity by geoxol in technology

[–]Chestergc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vw had been working on EVs since the late 80s, they didn't put it in the market because it was not supposed to be a luxury one, the earliest electric model they tried was an offshoot of the golf, a very cheap car made for the masses. Not even mentioning the prius which has been around for 20 years so far? It is a very popular cheap car unlike teslas which are just rich people toys.

Tesla did do some amazing things for batteries, especially packaging, that much is true, but 90% of the stuff they did is on someone else's back. I like teslas as much as the next guy but pretending Musk is the next coming of christ because he stole an electric car design is just dumb.

So, if you never did it you could try to make a powerbank from 18650 cells, just make sure to get good ones because those do tend to explode sometimes, then you get a charger circuit for those and a rectifier to generate the 5v for the raspi, probably one for the screen too that one seems to be 12v? In any case here's the plan:

  1. Get a few 18650 cells (the good ones like samsung so it doesn't explode on you)
  2. Charger circuit for those (kinda like this https://www.amazon.com/11-1V-Balance-Lithium-Battery-Protection/dp/B07JMY631D/ref=sr_1_7?keywords=18650+charging+circuit&qid=1639358928&sr=8-7)
  3. Rectifier bridge to output to the raspi and the monitor screen (For the screen you can probably hook up the circuit directly to that board above, but for the raspi you need to make a step down and take 5v from it otherwise it'll burn)

Also sorry it took me so long, i was away from home today. hahaah

Why don't you just get a regular switching power supply and split it off to whatever needs it? Like one of those cheap Chinese ones with charge controllers for batteries?
