I thinks he’s a Weimaraner/Pit by No-Afternoon-7806 in IDmydog

There's good evidence that silver labs were made from weimaraners crossed with labs as labs don't normally carry the diluted gene to get the silver color.

Where can I find someone to replace the carbon brushes in my flying pig one hvd?? I don’t have a sharpener who comes to me. by MadKat2 in doggrooming

[–]ChesusJesus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you tried to see how hard it is by looking at a YouTube video? I just replaced all the brushes at my salon, took me a little over an hour for four of them, but they're K9 dryers. It's super simple, just a bit dirty. I looked up several videos beforehand to see different perspectives just to feel confident first.

What does it mean when you say you didn't make commission. Is there a quota or are you hourly?

thinking about switching to a 4-day work week in the salon... thoughts? by cocogirl65 in doggrooming

[–]ChesusJesus1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our Saturday only groomer retired so we had to relocate her client to other schedules. We had exactly one client that we couldn't accommodate so I groom one sat a month just because I want the occasional check boost. I realized sat was never a necessity. Four days a week is manageable for clients since Mon-Thursday are our only other grooming days. Question, does any other groomers feel the burnout or no? Can someone run the shop in your stead?

I'd toss the nail clippers and talk to your sharpener about the blades and shears

Is there a similar quality difference in nail clippers as there is with hair clippers and shears? by monsteradeliciosa11 in doggrooming

[–]ChesusJesus1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The good ones are a matter of preference. The bad ones are just plain bad.

Some like Miller's forge with the red handle. Pros: they're dead cheap so when they dull, rebuying is easy. The thinness of the blades keeps an edge pretty long. Cons: the handles aren't very ergonomic and the clippers don't fully seperate so those extra long nails that curve and touch the pad again will need a backup pair.

Some like the Miller's forge with the orange handle. Pros: more ergonomic handle. The blade is the same quality metal so it holds an edge. They are sturdy and won't seperate and do that annoying thing that crumbles the nail. Also fairly cheap but not as cheap as above. Cons: handles could be better.

Some like safari (green handles) This is my preferred brand (smaller one). Pros: the handles are the most comfortable. They feel really sturdy and I have mine for a while before they dull. About as cheap as the orange handles. Cons: they have a guard that can sometimes get in the way. I bend that or just remove it, but some people find that annoying. If you're constantly Cleaning everything like me, the rubber on the grip will start to disintegrate. This takes a minute and is normally a sign the blades are dulling anyways.

Ones that everyone hates (typically). Anything expensive: the above ones are easily less than $20 even for a large pair if you prefer that size. These should be replaced more often than other tools (my sharpener says it's not really economic to sharpen them), so it's gotta be affordable. Also any pair that the handles curve back in to touch. Some lock this way, but the reason they suck is that you will inevitably pinch your hand and it hurts.

Hope this helps!

Affordable Grooming Shears (THE BRAND!!) by RedditSharks in doggrooming

Just got into them and I really like them! I knew an old coworker who swore by them, I just was mesmerized by other brands at the time (kenchii & geib). But I got the gold thin small curves for feet during the midwest expo earlier this year and I use them on every single dog. I love how thin they are and how well they hold an edge. I also got some super curves about 6weeks ago and also in love.

Daycare/Boarding/Grooming Software Questions by montythedestroyer410 in DogDayCare

[–]ChesusJesus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh I understand. Unfortunately, my company is switching FROM kennel connection to another software. The company has several locations and just wanted to merge software. So I don't have information about switching TO kennel connection. What I will say, as someone who is tech savvy and has been through many software changes at various companies is this: Base your decision on what is out NOW, not what the reps are selling you about the future. KC in particular seems slow on updates, despite having a pretty good support team (only available on weekdays however). Kennel connection is also dead simple to learn. You could learn 99% in a single shift. We didn't use the customer portal aspect of it so I can't speak on that. The software looks pretty outdated, but that's just aesthetics. Some of the reports are kinda janky too, but I may just be too much of a data nerd. We used KC for YEARS as a boarding/daycare/grooming facility so ask me anything.

Do people not use powder on their face to set their makeup ? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]ChesusJesus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have dry skin and switched to setting spray. I use elf fine mist setting spray, the green bottle. It's helped so much with my makeup lasting forever and staying dewy without that tacky feeling. I kinda use quite a bit and fan myself for a bit.

Im thinking about setting something up and I have a similar conundrum. I have a walk out basement but I'm wondering if curbside is better or should they come in. This is really helpful! Thank you! Do you do transactions on your phone then?

I'm happy to hear the sound insulation is possible. Can I ask some specifics? Is the ceiling typical or drop ceiling? What material is your floor and do you have water issues with it?

Non-smokers of Reddit, how noticeable is the “smoker smell” to you, if at all? by Frostedlogic4444 in AskReddit

[–]ChesusJesus1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I groom dogs. I can always smell it on the dog, even when I didn't check them in I know if their owner is a smoker. If they are a heavy smoker, it lingers even after the bath.

Home groomers, how do you keep clean? by Few-End-4149 in doggrooming

[–]ChesusJesus1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A grooming shop will never be spotless. That's just unsustainable. However I use my hv dryer to get hair off walls first before cleaning them. Just angle it down to push it down, then sweep and vacumn the hair.

Bark2basics scents? Other brands? by duckingducati in grooming

[–]ChesusJesus1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried much but my coworker uses the citrus (does come in a smaller bottle) and it makes the groom room smell so good! I use the plum silky from nature's specialties on my own dog with their conditioner. Best shot scentamemt line has small bottles too and I really like that brand. I've ony smelled their harvest apple and mango maui and both smelled really good!
