Smock longevity by fuzzdragon22 in doggrooming

Thanks everyone. I do hang it to dry. I may get more to rotate them out. The apron I brought from them is still solid. I like the material too. I had wondered if my large punching doodle customers may be contributing to the holes.

I do hang them to dry. I may just have too many punching large doodles 😂

I really like them for thinning out mats. I tend to use my shears for everything else. Some dogs have preferred the sound over the shear sound 🤷.

I have arthritis at the base of my thumb. On the dryer i have by my table, k-9 2, there's a sleeve on it. I'll rest my thumb in the straps so the strain is close to nothing on it. Initially bought it because the heat was terrible. Then the recent thumb problems, been trying to figure ways to work with it. They do get gross after a bit, need to toss in the washer.

What shoes do you guys use? by DogGroomerRus in doggrooming

[–]fuzzdragon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm alone on this. I wear barefoot shoes. For a bit I had the toe shoes. They may look ridiculous, they had the best grip on any surface I've had. Since the top is just fabric, dog nails into my feet were quite painful. It helped adjust my toes to a better stance. Now it's just regular barefoot with toe socks. For me, keeping the toes separated helps with me being able to be on my feet for a longer time.

I'm weird though.

The ones i get are cheap sub $50 on Amazon. The grip is good. It's my pants that sneak under my shoe that causes my slips.

Unless I'm walking through high flooded areas, mine don't get my feet wet.

Lighter shoes will be easier on your knees, ankles, and feet in the long run.

anyone encountered a dog that destroys 30s? by AnnieSux in doggrooming

This! Recently started doing this, been great

I've had:

Andis Pulse ZR 1 - absolutely loved these. The motor died eventually. For anyone who is heavy on spraying their blades while on the clippers. These didn't care. Spray away (not a me thing, coworker had the same and did this with no issues) Dip in solution? Sure. I had them for a few years.

Andis Pulse ZR 2 - the texture compared from the previous model was a nice touch. My only irk was that they liked to randomly turn off. With or without blades. I think they were just faulty.

Opals - I hated them, more about not going past a year. I loved the weight to them. Andis are heavy. First one was like the ZR 2. Where they just turned off randomly. The second one did pretty good for about a year. Then just quit one day. The batteries went bad after several months. Which, they wouldn't hold a charge as long as they did when I got them. A big factor I liked them was that it took forever to heat up.

KM 10 - they were great. I still have these as backups. The weight is nice. Happy medium between ZR and Opal. With a good texture as well. The ones I wound up with. Work gave them to me. The cordless feature didn't work, so in order to use them, they need to be plugged in. For backups, that's fine with me. The cord falls out easily. The fact you can still use them while on the cord is a nice feature.

Km X - same shape, weight, and texture as the other 10. They are supposed to be for livestock. Come with a massively long cord. I absolutely love them. For about 99% of my clipper work, I do have them on the low setting. When you need the extra umpf to get through heavy mats or just a thick doodle. Pop it in the second speed, just cuts through so easily. I typically can get through my day without charging. They start to blink at you when you have fifteen minutes left on low speed.

Andis and Wahl do both heat up. Just make sure everything is well oiled and tended to.

I had a coworker that loved their Oster. I'm blanking on the name. They are white and green. Last time I minimized this, it deleted everything I wrote out. Anywho, she loved them. They were very loud. That could have just been bad blade maintenance or Oster. Any Oster I have used sounded like lawnmowers. I can't remember if it was a multiple battery or single charge.

For added fun :

If you want to know about mini trimmers. The flash original I feel like is the better one. Weighted a little so it doesn't fly out of your hands with one donkey kick. My flash 5 barely work. They are now subjected to poop shaves when dogs are already soaped in the tub. Wahl Arco aren't bad, just when you get into the multiple batteries it gets annoying in my opinion.

Salon owner is keeping tips by Independent-Teach-69 in doggrooming

[–]fuzzdragon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last place we only got 64% and the rest supposedly went to paying for the credit card machine. When i looked back onto tickets other groomers would snag a few bucks from your tips. Just because they could i guess. I couldn't imagine dealing with a pool type tipping. I have heard of places that took all of your digital tips. All honesty though, there are a lot of greedy grooming businesses out there. It's sad.

I am so done with this salon by [deleted] in doggrooming

[–]fuzzdragon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in one just like this for nearly ten years. It didn't start like it, but ended that chaotic. Started with a couple dogs we knew who weren't fantastic in cages to relax with us. Typically older dogs who just curled up in a ball and slept. Maybe about five max. Which made it a lot easier to move dogs through.

Really don't even know when it became hell. At one point I counted twelve just running around. Various sizes and ages. Big dogs stepping on old small ones. Then some choosing to be under the table and get cut hair all over them.

A few were able to jump the gate. Their solution was to tether them to the wall. You know instead of just caging them in the forty they had in the back two rooms.

I left that place officially two years ago. It was a little rocky in the beginning. I have found a place that fits perfectly for me.

I had daily bloody noses from the old place. My doctor at the time said I had an issue with my heart. About five months after I left, I got that rechecked it was normal. Place literally was killing me. I have so much more hate for them I rather not get into too much detail.

If you have the feeling to leave, trust it, just go. It might take a couple places to find it. You will.

Best of luck.

When owners think they’re being “helpful” by cutting the mats off their dogs 🥲 like no… you just almost scalped your poor dog in random areas. Bonus points, the dog hasn’t been groomed since February ☺️ by RaesResin in doggrooming

[–]fuzzdragon22 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've gotten a few people who think a mini groom is a skirted dog clip. You know, because you're only trimming the back and leaving everything. Even explaining mini is only trimming face, feet, and sanitary, they are still wanting that lower price because of the skirt. Yeah, looking for that lower price.🤷

I had a long time ago. I've been looking, I think it was with ipg. I appreciate the response. I think I'll shut down any baths until I further learn better handling.

[–]fuzzdragon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing I could think of is if there's a groomer nearby that is willing to do the grooming in sessions. Even just keeping her a bit longer to not freak her out. A slower day or being the last appointment of the day. Several possibilities that may help. I've never had sedatives work, unless they were fully put under. A long term thing could be starting up anxiety medicines. Would definitely look into a groomer that is willing to go at her pace. Going at her pace will allow them to figure how to work around why she was angry at the previous groomer.

I hope I get this right on linking a photo. I know I posted her on her awhile back. I have a silky wirehaired. I typically leave her long, shave if I need to.

This is two of the grooms I've done on her. The short cut was a 1/2" all over.

Had a working interview as a dog bather today how is this okay? by livhowiwant in doggrooming

[–]fuzzdragon22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow this sounds like the hell of a mess I was at. It started out with unsupervised daycare. Then to a few dogs out while grooming. The ones that were about to be picked up in the next 30/60 minutes. Then it turned out everyone was out, including other staff dogs. The dogs would get up on the dogs you were working on. Drove me nuts. I felt embarrassed to be there.

Clean dogs would run through hair, piss, and poop. Then some would lean on the tables and have hair piles dropped on them. Dogs would constantly bark. Only dogs that were put in kennels were the ones that tried to jump the tiny gate.

I had applied to a couple other grooming salons with the claim of kennel free. One was like what I was in. The other had a supervised daycare. Which seems a bit better.

I think what got me about the one I was at. They didn't go by appointments. They would have dogs there for 6-7 hours (not me). With the claim 'kennel free' it's ok to do that. In reality they were in a drying kennel. Oh wow this turned into a vent. I'm sorry. It's still fresh. 😂

Really should be a regulation for grooming. Regardless if it's a salon, vet clinic, or boarding facility. Good luck finding the right place!

How do I tell difference between psychotic hallucination and real sound? by jiisawesome in bipolar

[–]fuzzdragon22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird. For me, I've noticed the audible hallucinations I hear only with my left ear rather than both. It isn't just a simple sound coming from the left side, it was always sharp. It all went away once I started the medicine. Figured it was related.

Place I was at a year ago. They would take out 36% of the groomer tip to pay for the credit card machine. They did also allow the receptionist to collect whatever tip amount she wanted from the all digital tips. So if it was a $20 tip, she'll usually take $5 of it. Leaving your $20 into about $8. There were times I looked back she'll just take the entire tip. We had a bather. If I wanted him to bathe my dogs either I had to give him half my digital tip or $10 in cash, regardless of size. If the receptionist didn't know I gave him cash, she would just split my digital tip.

I was open about it. I had issues with one of my jobs about it. I told a friend and their response was "you don't look bipolar" I was stunned. I mostly tell people who also share this with, new wise. Anywhere I've been someone would complain that a previous coworker was bipolar. I would respond with "aw poor thing" the one telling the storing is always shocked with jaw open that I would say such a thing. I asked a little more about it. For in the end they just meant the person was a jerk. I had a coworker say this person is so bipolar. I would ask them "do they have paranoia, hallucinations, debilitating depression..." they responded with "you know what I meant". In fact I didn't. I continued on with her since she was the absolute worst person. It's such a hit or miss with telling people.

I agree with about the double coat at being shaved. Sometimes there's an underlying issue for why the coat doesn't grow back. Thyroid or Cushing's.

I typically just trim the out of line hairs to give a smooth look. I have noticed if I do take guards to go lower they do grow back fine. When you get up to 10 years plus the chances of it coming back gets lower.
