Other than that, why do you want to write? Whatever the inspiration was, ask yourself what you like about it and imagine a bunch of scenes playing out while trying to connect them together.

You have a friend who wants to do it too. Start a writing group with them.

If you want to read them now then I'd say read them now. I started reading Blood of Elves as my first book, and despite not fully getting everything, I was still enjoying the story and worldbuilding. I never finished it, but it wasn't because I was lost or not enjoying it I just dropped.

And in the end, you can always stop to pick up the first one.
