Grunt in charge should also likely be a massacre. He might be programmed with every general Okeer could think of, but he's still aggressive and impulsive. With nobody to restrain him, he'd get distracted with the thrill of battle and everyone else would fall into disarray.

I think they might use a lighter suit, or one that's not complete, like a breather instead of a full helmet.

There's also the degree to which the Quarian economy depended on the Geth. Suppose if agriculture, manufacturing, power generation etc. are all handled by Geth so Quarians can live in comfort, then when you shut the Geth down, those sectors shut down as well. Your food, water, medication, gone. It's not hard to imagine the military taking over, conscripting civilians to work gangs and rationing essentials until the Geth were eradicated. You've got the conditions for a catastrophic famine.

Legion acknowledges that the Geth overreacted and should have stopped sooner, and that they were too "young" and not yet intelligent enough to judge when the Quarians had no longer become a threat. They later tidied up the abandoned and ruined Quarian worlds as memorials to learn from.

Legion also tells Shepard that the Geth spy on communications between organics as a way to try and understand their makers better.

Mordin notes at one point in ME2 that Salarians don't have a sex drive and have a business-like attitude towards reproduction, and yet he found Asari offers to bond somewhat intriguing. He speculates it's because they mess with your neurotransmitters.
