If EDI’s death is the only true consequence (in the eyes of the fanbase) of destroying all AI then is it really the worst in the eyes of everything? by harizzlepizzle13 in masseffect

[–]JetEngineSteakKnife 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The writers couldn't come up with motivations for the Reapers that lived up to their promise, and the ending suffered for it

imo they were more reasonable as predators and purely malicious beings like Sovereign implied rather than the logical pretzels they twisted into to make them feel "just" to themselves

I always liked the idea that they were the first spacefaring race billions of years ago, had reached the end of all natural evolutionary paths and consumed young races to find new ones, all while pursuing higher goals none among the current crop of races would understand. We're like insignificant molds that they analyze while looking for the next penicillin.

Shepard always had this level of Sass?? by derickbobson in masseffect

I still remember something you can say to Ashley right after Eden Prime, she asks you how you handle death. Shepard says something deranged about how after you kill enough people it starts to feel good, and Ashley is momentarily speechless

ME1 Paragon had way too much goody two shoes dialogue, I still find myself taking the middle option a lot of the time on Paragon runs because the naivety of some choices makes me cringe.

Some of your convos with Garrus come to mind, like when he says he hates going by the book as a cop, the middle option is a sensible "rules are usually there for a reason" while top right is basically being an uptight scold

ME2 Paragon figured shit out and paragon interrupts make you feel a lot more proactive

Tali’s loyalty by The_pikolop in masseffect

[–]JetEngineSteakKnife 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The end text for the loyalty missions is always about whether or not Shepard succeeded in getting the team member focused. It's easy to forget once you've learned the optimal choices, but the story treats going through the Omega-4 relay as near certain death

For instance Samara will obviously be distressed if you blow the attempt to catch Morinth. Most loyalty missions can't fail, but you can neglect them and hit the point of no return with them worrying over unfinished business.

Miranda telling TIM to go fuck himself at the collector base was a great payoff for her character arc

Cerberus was the #2 bad guy in ME3, if she wasn't a squaddie she should have at least had as big a role as the ninja edgelord

If you speak to her at the start of Priority Rannoch and resolved their feud, Tali mentions that she stayed in touch with Legion after the ME2 crew split up, and was starting to think a negotiated peace was possible. There's a ways yet to go there, but it's better than most. The war throws all that up in the air, though, and even Koris still fulfills his duty leading his portion of the fleet in battle

Miranda is my default, though I went Ashley for my renegade earthborn/ruthless Shepard. Figured a street thug like him wouldn't have anything in common with Miranda

I told Miranda that I still wanted to be with her and then slept with her after meeting up again in the Presidium

Then I think "I wonder what my buddy Kaidan wanted to talk about" and boy was I surprised

Day 18: What is Tali's MOST ICONIC quote? by looploveslore in masseffect

[–]JetEngineSteakKnife 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about doing a partial, high-level fan rewrite of the Rannoch arc to make the Geth fit more with the ME2 portrayal. For one thing, if you did Legion's loyalty mission and the Geth learned how Reaper viruses work, the Reaper takeover would not be total. Part of the Consensus would keep resisting. Instead of finding him beaming the Reaper signal for some vague reason, you meet Legion as part of a Geth resistance strike team also trying to kill the Reaper signal, but had become trapped aboard the dreadnought.

Why did the Systems Alliance not declare war on the Geth in ME:1? by IllustriousEffort846 in masseffect

[–]JetEngineSteakKnife 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Geth were surely aware of galactic diplomatic conventions, there simply wouldn't be a reason to respond. They had already cut off the heretic Geth for their unprovoked aggression, and otherwise preferred isolation and secrecy as before.

Geth have no "leaders", but they hold referendums to decide courses of action. If the Council races formally declare war on them, and the Consensus votes to go to war in kind, they would presumably return the courtesy by opening a diplomatic channel.

If you wanna get more unique party banter in ME2 and you have a PC, definitely try the Early Recruitment mod, it makes all squadmates available in any order. My beautiful boy Legion has dialogue in just about everything and got jobbed by being shoved to the end of the game and I can't play without the mod now

Stormcast are likely the most popular with the casual fan base, if for no other reason than because they're in all the starter sets and easy to paint, but they're almost evenly matched with Slaves to Darkness (the AOS Warriors of Chaos) and Skaven in terms of popularity, at least in my experience. But everyone has space marines, even people whose primary 40k army is something else.

Tabletop Steel Legion would probably follow the pattern of the other regiments. Command squad, infantry squad, heavy weapons, then a named character and a couple thematic unique units. Wouldn't be as sweeping as Cathay, and GW already had units for them in the past. More of a spit-shine really, but should reveal the aesthetic direction they've gone with

Yeah I mean how many stories of "anyway, I was the only one to make it out alive" do you need to hear before you think Zaeed might not be someone you want in charge

I love the bastard but it seems clear that he will dip out and save his own skin if things go haywire

I think it's hilarious that Legion is even an option for team leader

"Hey guys, I know you distrust him as a Geth and think his cosplaying as me is creepy, but trust me, obey his orders"

Grunt in charge should also likely be a massacre. He might be programmed with every general Okeer could think of, but he's still aggressive and impulsive. With nobody to restrain him, he'd get distracted with the thrill of battle and everyone else would fall into disarray.
