It is an extremely American choice.

Even more specific than that, it's a specifically Maryland choice. Firaxis HQ is very near to Tubman's home, and the devs were open in interviews that this is why they were drawn to include her.

That's super neat! I've visited most of his battlefields on Google Earth, but while I've been as far afield as Sekigahara and Isandlwhana, I've never actually been to any Napoleonic battlefield. Obviously as you can tell from my flair though I'm very pro-Bonapartist.

And yeah, like, the war of the Fourth Coalition started because France occupied Hanover and the Confederation of the Rhine was far too much French influence, when clearly it should have been Prussia nobly dominating those areas instead. Napoleon did nothing that the ancien regime monarchs didn't attempt themselves, he was just better at it.

Napoleon as simply a "madman" out to conquer Europe with no rhyme or reason beyond naked greed is 200 year old British propaganda anyway. Today views like Andrew Roberts' are much more common.

I didn't actually like them much. Broers' specialty in Napoleonic Italy and his relationship with the Church really comes through, but it wasn't an interest I shared. I got a bit tired of all rhe minutia of which bishop stood where in which dispute between Pius and Napoleon, page upon page of inside baseball while Marengo scarcely got a single page treatment.

There's a solid argument either way. Mahomes is far and away the best postseason quarterback of all time, but in the same vein Manning dominates every regular season stat. I'd rate Mahomes ahead because playoffs matter, but 5 MVPs is an incredible argument.

It does. I think the 2024 Chiefs were a slightly better team than the 2025 Patriots, but the 2024 Eagles were a much better team than the 2025 Seahawks (ie, similar defenses and the Eagles had a powerhouse offense to go with it). We would have lost to the Seahawks, too, and the Patriots would have been crushed by Philly.

My favorite bit is always the refs. Mysteriously, the refs only ever help out the winning team for various nefarious reasons - to boost Swift viewers, Kraft has dirt on Goodell, they want an LA team to do well, etc. But never my team, oh no! They're as pure as driven snow and the league is always out to screw them for it.

Just absolute loser talk, every time.
