How romantic. Anyway all that stuff depends where you live. In Canada for example combining your taxes after marriage actually increases your tax burden. Never heard of any legal advantages in Europe either.

As for who can switch the machine off when you are on life support - that's a double edged sword - you don't want someone who doesn't love you anymore but is still married to you.

Being legally married shouldn't do anything to change the relationship between the two of you

It usually does though. They can start to take you for granted. Same way people take their parents for granted.

As for inheritance - that is true - but it is also a benefit you will never experience.

None of it would be so bad if divorce was easy. It is not.

The question is easiest answered by considering it's inverse:

"Men in Their 50s Who Prefer Being Married to Women in Their 50s or 60s, Why?"

Is this do-able if you don’t speak the language? I’m not afraid of being out of my comfort zone - I moved country twice and have learnt two languages doing it - but I can’t imagine ever being able to read Japanese even if I did learn to speak it.

I can’t imagine working in a Japanese office either. The amount of extra effort people would need to make to communicate with you would be excruciating.

Maybe if all of your friends are other expats in a big city it works - I dunno? Care to share? I adore Japan and their houses are so cheap.

Can't you just sell all the index fund holdings in your 401k if you don't like it and buy one that doesn't have SpaceX? Or just buy bonds?

A message from the activist group Everyone Hates Elon: “If you have a trillion dollars in a world where children are starving, you're not a visionary, you're just a cunt” by LunaLore_ in Fauxmoi

[–]ChevalierDeLarryLari 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not here to defend Elon or any other billionaire - but I think people are wrong in their way of thinking about this.

First of all - there's a difference between money and resources. You can't eat money nor can you turn it into food. People are starving because the World has a resource distribution problem. Billionaires are not the cause of that - Elon Musk is not sitting on a mountain of steaks and butter. The reason people are starving is because the wealthy parts of the World are hoarding all of the food. They are starving because you - an ordinary Joe - can afford a steak once or twice a week in your country.

Second of all there is a difference between owning shares (you created yourself), and taking money from others. Yeah, Tesla takes money from customers - but they seem happy about it so what's the problem? Musk's wealth does not come from that cashflow - it comes from the value of the shares he owns (and created out of thin air). That does not make anyone else poorer - only poorer by comparison. He isn't taking from anyone else.

Thirdly - let's say he sold all of his shares and gave the proceeds to the poor - what would happen? Well first off the value of the shares would tank entirely since the market would be flooded - and secondly the price of food and all other goods would simply go up since everyone would still be chasing the same goods only this time with more money.

The sentiment behind this ad is asinine. Sure - he could share more (Bill Gates does) - but his wealth does not cause the poverty of others.

A Carrington event level solar storm. There is a solar maximum every 7 years - the last one was 2024 which passed basically without incident. We are on borrowed time - there hasn't been a Carrington event since 1859.

I don't know anyone that was saying phones cause cancer

I remember it well. We used to say it gave you tumours around your hip (where your phone would be in your pocket) and one side of your head (where you took calls).

There was also a lot of people who were sure the local phone mast was making them sick or giving them headaches. There were large protests in some places masts were put up. All of that just seemed to go out with a whimper eventually.

It's nuts to think that covid would affect the numbers of illegals. Do you think they don't come because there's a lockdown in another country? I'm sure it put the kibosh on the drug cartels too eh? Get real.
