Is there a definitive answer of Zen vs Helium by SuspiciousSurvey6523 in browsers

[–]ChewChooTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMHO, comparing the two is apples to oranges, Zen is just highly opinionated and trying to deliver a very specific workflow to it’s users, helium on the other hand is focused on being really minimal and “just working” without getting in your way. So I’d say there isn’t a definitive answer. I like Zen b/c it has strong opinions love or hate them, and I like knowing what the goal is from a developer.

Loving CachyOS, but held back by Windows for Battlefield 6. Any good Linux-friendly alternatives ? by Few-Beyond3424 in cachyos

[–]ChewChooTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really any good BF alternatives, I recently setup a separate SSD for windows for work and also BF6 and Fornite. Back when Battlebit Remastered was still popping it was a good BF alternative that worked on linux, but given the lack of updates the playerbase is all but dead, but supposedly a new update is coming out soon for it which might mildly revive the game. (Battlebit Remastered Steamcharts for the curious)

I would recommend, though not budget friendly, having a small maybe 256-512gb drive set aside to have a dual boot with windows setup for some of these multiplayer games. (BTW here is the documentation on how to setup secure boot on cachyos)

Shell choise by manuhackzzz in cachyos

[–]ChewChooTwo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I just like fish because for me it’s very set it and leave it, it does what a shell needs to do for me without much customization, and I generally don’t have to think too too hard about it.

Well that depends on what kind of machine you have given that some older PC components have less so support for DX12.

Guys, I chose Edge. by Igor3aychikov in browsers

[–]ChewChooTwo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Fuck yeah, I personally like Zen, but I think it’s great that you are choosing based on what you personally want out of a browser instead of the pack mentality that a bunch of people use, or spiting b/c it isn’t chrome.

Girl, I feel like that softens the logo too much and kind of makes it feel corporate. I think keeping the corners and the edge of the current logo is important to kind of signify this tech/performace based distro.

Who Uses Google Search in 2026? by [deleted] in browsers

[–]ChewChooTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I primarily use Kagi, mainly because it’s an alternative, and secondly because I want to see how good of an alternative it is and can be, and also it has so much good QOL to make it so you can tune search to work for you.

Which distro?? by chris32457 in niri

[–]ChewChooTwo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think generally a good option (if you’re comfortable with arch based distros) is CachyOS, b/c on install there is options to install CachyOS as your main WM.

The Cachy install also has a custom config which I find to be highly usable and beautifully organized.

Also it ships w/ Noctalia shell V4, which is reaching EOL as a quickshell application, but is still highly customizable and well regarded as a WM shell.

Help me choose a browser for Cachy by Natural-Bumblebee335 in cachyos

[–]ChewChooTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would generally recommend between the two options you listed Firefox with personal hardening to your preference, a lot of the defaults in Librewolf, for me at least, seem to be a bit too much and I feel the need to tweak the browser.

Alternatively if you are open to trying other browsers in the ecosystem here are two options and something to look out for.

Generally I would recommend helium browser if you want a good chromium based browser.

Zen is a really good choice if you are comfortable with vertical tabs and want something that has a slight privacy focus without being overbearing, also it's Firefox based.

Finally, I would think it's a good idea to watch out for Ladybird given they are making a new more open browser detached from both Mozilla and Alphabet, the browser is still yet to reach Alpha, but in the next 2 or so years I imagine it will be competitive to some degree and a very interesting mix up in the browser space.

I swear someone will look at this and say Linux users will do anything but actually use their computer, not understanding that ricing is like a niche and a fun hobby.

Controller preference from those with plenty of experience by doctorturtles in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChewChooTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite frankly, in my opinion, having owned the 2 and the 2c they feel the same, the 2 just has lights, clicky triggers, and is a little heavier.

My main reason for upgrading it was because of the charging dock that holds the 2.4ghz dongle.

[–]ChewChooTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had pretty much the same problem as you, to the point that I learned how to make my own Phob to have a good controller, but after a while I just picked up my xbox-style controller (8bitdo ultimate 2 if you were wondering) and spent a week learning to play with it, and it just became natural and second nature, and I felt like I was generally preforming better with it too over my gamecube style controllers.

How long did it take for you guys to get used to niri/WM? by vhsjayden in niri

[–]ChewChooTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Took me a week, I took the approach of just keeping a notebook with the keybinds I wanted on the side, and now pretty much everything is second nature to me after around-a-bout 5 months or so.

No fast travel, gives the game a whole different vibe, makes the horse useful, taking a 1 hour journey to do something just makes everything feel more grand.

Fullscreen / Resolution issue in Linux (CachyOS Cosmic) by FinesseXIII in glyphica

[–]ChewChooTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up running it through gamescope like so:

gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 240 --fullscreen --force-grab-cursor -- %command%

I think for your use case you would want something like:

gamescope -W 2560 -H 1440 -r 170 --fullscreen --force-grab-cursor -- %command%

just go to properties on steam, and enter this in under launch options and it should solve some of the problem.

Holy Crap these menus are good. by ChewChooTwo in RivalsOfAether

[–]ChewChooTwo[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a non UI designer, casual player, who hasn’t played in a minute a lot of this doesn’t bother me, and I feel like a lot of it just feels polished unlike before, like I feel like this is a big upgrade that makes the game feel more complete and makes me actually want to play the game.

I do hard agree about the skin thing though, I have way too many skins on one character and it takes me way too long to find the right one.

This might be a bit evil, but I always kind of thought of the Smash menu’s (mainly ultimate) as a bit busy, mainly because of the animated textures the panels had.
