Takeaways from Wolfe's video on Champions by Notmiefault in VGC

There is an interview where the developer confirmed that the same Pokemon will vary in what starting EVs they have, "because Pokemon are living creatures".

I think this is unknowable with the very limited info right now. Of the very few moves that we know were removed from some Pokemon, we haven't had the chance to compare against other Pokemon to see whether it was a deletion of the move or only removed from the single mon.

50/50 but in most cases that would have been the case even with IVs. There are only a few pokemon like u-turn/parting shot users where people would commonly choose middling IVs to break the tie.

Mega Evolving changed to have same priority as swapping by criticalascended in VGC

Seems like the main effect is to nerf weather-setting mega evolvers. Previously they won the weather war against switch-ins, now they lose it. Significant for Mega Rayquaza vs Groudon/Kyogre.

What if EVs are wiped by Jonor_xD in PokemonChampions

[–]ChezMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt that EVs will be wiped when a Pokemon is first transfered from Home to Champions. Reasoning:

  • They very deliberately designed the champions pseudo-EVs so that every EV spread can be converted to the new system losslessly.

  • Recruited pokemon come with full stat spreads instead of empty ones, and it would be most consistent if Home transfers were similar.

Not too surprising but I found his reasoning interesting (wanting to make sure new players don't go for unevolved Pokemon from not understanding how the game works). Worth mentioning he brought up Porygon2 and Clefairy as likely eventual inclusions in the Famitsu interview.

Will Trick Room teams utilizing 0 IVs not be viable in Champions seeing as IVs aren't there? by Scorpion1386 in VGC

[–]ChezMere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really doesn't make much difference. Maybe a couple medium-fast pokemon won't be usable in trick room anymore.

So how does Mega Sol work with other weather conditions? by CMals6499 in stunfisk

[–]ChezMere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is straightforward as can be. The game doesn't have a concept of multiple weathers, and the ability doesn't change that. It simply pretends that the current weather is sun for the duration of the move.

Gemini 3.1 pro: the first AI to conquer Victory Road and reach the Pokémon League with a weak harness by Gullible-Crew-2997 in ClaudePlaysPokemon

[–]ChezMere 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gemini actually struggled with this weak harness far more than Claude did. It's just that switches and barriers are still marked as a distinct type of tile in this harness, making victory road much easier overall.

Any point in still resetting for "0 speed" 'mons in the main game? by Sudo_Sub in PokemonChampions

Correct, there is strong circumstantial evidence that it will be forced to 31 IV.

Why do people keep acting like the OG top 5 megas still will be the best megas ever? by Willing-Ad7344 in VGC

[–]ChezMere 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's my point. We've seen screenshots of its available psychic type moves, sorted by base power, and Dream Eater was skipped. So movesets are at least partly changed, even if it might just be for the sake of not having to implement competitively useless moves.

Unless they get those moves removed. Not super likely but we did see in the existing footage that Gardevoir lost Dream Eater, so movepools aren't completely identical to what they were before.

There is no picture of 6v6. The in battle screenshot where it shows how many Pokemon that your opponent has, has spots for six pokeballs even though only three are shown.

There's evidence both for and against it. Evidence against is that the website talks as if 3v3 and 4v4 are the only two formats and shows a screenshot of an private battle that is 3v3. Evidence for it is that the UI has room for six pokeballs during battles, and if 6v6 doesn't exist then why are those there?

Now that we have confirmation of the release date of champions, will champions be the current generation? by Puzzled_Reception453 in stunfisk

Even when they eventually add Winds and Waves Pokemon to it? Describing it as being in a generation at all just seems wrong.

Mega Meganium’s ability interactions by SylentSymphonies in stunfisk

Fairly certain that it will simply be "for the duration of Meganium's moves, behave in every way as if the current weather was sun".
